It doesn't look the best bike but the Saracen is an awsome starter bike. I've had one now for about 5 months and I've learnt so much on it. The brakes are also really powerful and long lasting (seeing as they're V-brakes they're really good); I'm still on the same brake pads on the front since i bought it and they are still going strong. The other parts on the bike are all of reasonable quality apart from the freewheel on mine which had to be angle grinded off as it was so tight to the wheel. Apart from that I recomend that you get one. Also the Onza is a good starter bike as my freind has one. I don't know much about it though.

Hope I've helped

Sam

Buying the saracen with Vee mounts would be a big 'No' for me. The Da Bomb looks like the preferable option.

I don't quite understand why everyone seems to think that vee brakes aren't good.

I've used some and they were fine. You just have to have a decent set of pads on a grind.

For example plazmatic CRV's on a light grind, heatsink vee backings with coust material on a light grind.

I'd recommend getting the proper vee backings instead of the vee adapters because the adapters let the pad roll a fair ammount and causes rounded edges on the pads.

I'd say go for the t-vee, if you mess up the rear rim just buy a front echo 07 rim. This is still plenty wide enough and is super strong.

It's not a question of whether they are good or not. It's whether, when you want to upgrade your frame you can literally move everything over.

Well then you can buy the adapters to convert your frame to accept vee brakes?

Vee's are alot simpler and easier to maintain. So for a first bike they are ideal

This guy knows what hes chatting, I have ridden a T-Bird which was without doubt, the worst bike I have ridden ever, whereas the Da Bomb was a great first bike in my opinion, and is like, a T-Pro for a guy with a smaller budget.

well the thing is im 5ft 5" and im stuck if i should get a 26" bike or 20" www.bikes4trials.com the mad 2 six seems ok

I'm 5ft 10" and manage fine on MOD, 26" are way too big for me.

yeah, any frame with vee mounts would be a big off put for me, because you would have to run evo mounts to have Maggie's, to much hassle. i have ridden a da bomb, it was really short for me and the freewheel was really crap, but it was so much better that a T-bird, because they are horrid.

The OLD T-Bird was ok, the one that came with the maggies. but the newer T-Bird is BAD. I've ridden the Da Bomb and the old T-bird and I prefered the Onza.

Those things annoy me so much. They are horrible to set up and they move really easily.

If I were you mate, I'd either find an old T-bird or the Da Bomb. STAY AWAY FROM THE SARACEN

except they aren't

18 months on a maggie = no maintenance required beyond tweaking the tpa

1 ride on a vee = ages spent twatting around with screws and springs and lube *

I know what I prefer

*this doesn't include those Vee setups that cost double what you'd spend on a maggie obviously but the disadvantages with those are clar from the price

i think i will probably go for the t-vee as basicly there a good known brand ect i seen one on ebay for 280 delivered new http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Onza-T-Vee-2007-in-s...VQQcmdZViewItem

Don't get a T-Vee, they are terrible bikes. They have v-brakes for a start, and decent v-brake set ups cost as much as that bike for two.

Get the Da Bomb or a T-Pro if you can, I have owned a T-Pro and ridden my mates Da Bomb on a number of occasions, these two are the best cheap bikes around at the moment.

EDIT: I would get another T-Pro to be honest, because they offer a decent frame to upgrade around, it doesn't matter what you upgrade on the T-Bird/T-Vee, it will still ride rubbish.

For the money, get the Da Bomb. You can put ALL of the previous parts onto a new 20" frame if you want to, which will save you money and time. This bike IS the one to go for, full stop.

i agree, but be sure to change the front freewheel (Y)

Or if you can afford it, a T-Pro, very similar really just slightly better all round

Get a tensile, they cost £35 and mine has lasted me 7 months and has never skipped or come loose at all. The only time my crank has come off was to fit my new frame. Best freewheel ever. If it only lasts a year, buy another!

on the person profering v's ARE YOU MAD i had a vee on the front for a while and it was nuffin but hassle springs screws lubing the cables finding a pad that put up with front hops oh and i had a cable snap on my front brake wich was the reason for a hydrolic,so basicly i wouldnt have thought a v would stand up to trials abuse
