Is there an allowance to get your MOT booked in and completed after the date of expiry, i.e. a 7 day allowance to get it sorted?

I ask because my dad is self employed and is really busy for the next few days, yet MOT expired today. Can he use the vehicle for a few days and get the MOT completed, say, next week sometime? Or does he run the risk of driving illegally because MOT expired today?

Government website doesn't answer my question. You are all the next best thing :)

Cant be driven unless it is being driven to a garage to get a MOT (needs to be proof of that if your pulled). I am sure thats it.

Yeah i'm sure you get 7 days to sort it out. but you need to book an appointment whoever your taking the car to so when coppers stop you they can check with the garage if you're going to sort it out.

No There isnt an Allowance. If the MOT Has Expired then the vehicle isnt road Legal.

Its your responsibilty to get it sorted before the MOT Is Due.

Thats why you can have your car MOT'd up to 1 month before the Expiry date, and you wont loose the month, its added on the end.
