What Hubs For My Bike?

Recommended Posts

Fixed hubs had the freewheel on the cranks, where as free hubs have them on the back. But if you buy a freehub make sure its not a deng (echo adamant gu czar ect..)

Any deng fixed hubs will be ok if you use a good freewheel :)

I have a Zoo! wiht a monty free wheel on front.

Hope i helped Dale.

thanks i probably buy the echo free hubs but what do you mean by "deng" freewheels the freewheel i have will not do the job?

Deng is the creator and owner of some trials brands.

As Dale-hill explain some in his post.

Some people just don't like/trust his products.

Just don't buy a deng made free hub. Anything else is fine I think.

nah i want a freehub because i dont have free wheel on the crank :) ... so you don't think i should buy the echo freehub?

From tarty bikes most freehubs are dengs...the others are up to 150-300 pounds!

Umm ..Well, I bought an Echo freehub.

It must have skipped on me about 3 times per day. (Really not good)

And I realised you don't have a freewheel on the crank atm ..

That's why you buy one :)(Y):

You should just buy a profile hub they are good and reliable and they are also rather strong

Yup, I even managed to get one on Ebay a week ago for £45.

Shows how cheap people sell them for second hand.

(They are £130 - £160 new by the way)

I would personally, because you are on a mod, run a front freewheel and a fixed hub such as a VIZ or Try-All 'H'.

This makes the gearing fell amazingly resonsive, running a freehub on the back doesnt look as good either ;).

Freehubs increase chain life ;) by reducing wear cause it's not spinning all the time. if you have the money, buy a good freehub, profile or king, avoid the echo/zoo/gu ones on tarty you won't save yourself any money cause you'll get sick of it skipping. :( you could run a rear freewheel, but you'd have to run like 24-16 or 27-18 to acheive the 1.5-1 ratio most mod riders use!
