Just got my brand new sl freewheel from tartys

So took it out of packet and spun it in hands and went really tight but after a few spins freed up and tried it again and bound right up

Can also hear bearings rattle about alot, when its bound the bearings still rattler so must be pawls and I have to get a kitchen towel to grip it so i can free it up

Will it take a few rides to bed in or is it faulty ?

From Tartys website..

"These freewheels may appear to 'rattle' from new - this is down to the bearing system. It would be possible to add an extra bearing in and stop the rattle, however this would then cause the freewheel to lock up!"

Shouldn't need any time to bed in, I'd give it a blast with some gt85 or wd40, get it fitted and see how you get on. It'll be easier to turn with the cranks due to the leverage you'll have so it may be fine, if not then get on to tarty about a possible return.
