Has My Axel Snapped?

Hey I was just taking off my casset as I've got a new wheel and accidently pulled the freehub off. I've taken the freewheel off before and I've tried to search for pics but I'm not sure if this is snapped or not. I think the axel is snapped but I really don't know.

If it is snapped could I get it replaced on the warrenty? It's around a year old.

Thanks,

Adam.

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago.

I sent it off to hope, (it is nearly 2 years old), and for £19, they replaced EVERYTHING apart from the shell, (axle, driveshell, bearings, pawls, ratchet etc) and sent it back. (Y)

Can't complain.

Mike.

Just give 'em a quick ring, and send it back with a letter.

I sent mine off once when the rachet had gone...£7 postage to send it to them. They replaced EVERYTHING except the hubshell and sent it back, free!!!!

They did the same to me bu the opposite....replaced everthing but the internals/just the body was replaced in other words.

Strange...did they try to replace the rachet? Because when they did that to me it came undone  .

Lol. I viewed this post thinking the guy broke his BB axle i cant belive he broke the hub axle....it seems so hard to break.....i dont understand....what did you do?

i've broke 2 9or was it 3?) axles in the +2years i've had my xc. now i have a solid steel axle (EN24T). just little holes in either end for bolts and custom end caps. hopefully won't snap again:p the sodding thing weighs 148g! (over 3 times the weight of standard alloy ones)

it ain't all that hard to bust em, cuz u get sooooooo much flex in the area where this guys axle has snapped, and all of mine have gone in the same place. the freehub shell has so little support, it sorta just wobbles about under hefty load, bending the axle about with it. then one heavy drop and SNAP! but hope have always been really good. they also replaced all the internals , leaving only the hub shell and end caps original from when i bought the hub.

so call hope, ask what they advise. probably just tell u to send it back. in which case, just send back the wheel (ie. minus tyre and tube) to save weight on postage, and ask them to quote you any expenses before work is carried out. they'll probably do it for free (or minimal charge) and send it back to you free.

I don't have a clue! It's never made a distinctive 'snap' noise or anything. I like to concider myself as a pretty light rider... and I don't do anything stupidly large. I was seriously surprised when I read it was snapped... I don't have a clue how it happend :)

Anyhoo I'll give hope a ring tomorrow and hopefully get it on warrenty. Hopefully they will replace the pawl springs as 2 are snapped
