its only since xmas, brand new then, with a regular chain splitter, first time it broke was on my drive just trackstanding while applying a slight bit of pressure, and the second was when i was riding across a yard, just after i did a massive gap drop

edit- middle burn pro trials cranks and a 8sp gear set up on 105 casster

Has it been breaking as in one of the side plates bending away, making the rivet pop out, splitting the chain?

If so, check that you've joined the chain properly, and the rivet is all way through. Also, check your chainline.

Or is it just snapping clean off in the middle of the links?

Ive experienced problems too with KMC chains in general - both the singlespd. types and the ones that cost £20.

I've had the links rip in half, links splayed and pins come out!!

i've come to two conculsions:

1. When splitting links and rejioning them be careful not to damage the links.

2. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link

Ive got this chain tool - it holds the link well and is big and sturdy for KMC's
