Brazing Problem

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have no access to oxyacetylene so I used a butane/propane mix and after about 4 mins I got the steel glowing cherry pink. I used (not shure but its gold) brazing rod but it just kind if snapped off and didnt melt.

I used flux and as far as I know it was hot enough.

Any ideas?

Sam

You can't braze with butane/propane mix because it won't get the metal or the filler rod hot enough. Propane/butane mix things like you have are only intended for plumbing - silver soldering copper pipes together and the like.

Gotta have the right kit for the job I'm afraid!
