No Bootable Drive!?

Hey,

This morning I was on my laptop, all working fine and then I decided to install the vista theme. So I had to uninstall my old one. Afterwards I had to restart, and when it went to boot back up, in the top left of a black screen it says, "checking boot rom" or somein like that, then it normally goes to windows loading and then desktop. This time it says "checking boot rom" then says "no bootable drive" :ermm: Windows loading screen, blank screen...then shuts down

Just keeps repeating this process so I just manually turn it off.

I've tried going into options by pressing F2 etc but still nothing.

Anyone know what I can do to even get my laptop to turn on properly and get to the desktop!!!???

Thanks ALOT

Put the Windows XP CD in and restart the computer boot into that (wait for ages), and then select the repair console. I haven't done this for a while, but there are various commands that you can try. FIXMBR might be the first one I would try (Y)

this doesnt sound too healthy - can you borrow a hard disk off someone else ?

To be absolutely sure you dont lose any of the porn youve been collecting over the last few years I'd install windows on the borrowed disk , put your old disk in the other hole, start it up, copy the porn and stuff to the borrowed disk, take the borrowed disk out, put the old one back where it used to be and try the new MSR (sure it didnt say MBR?) thing . if it doesnt work you can format the old disk and start again without losing your porn.

youll be there for a while.....

LOL

1. I (well not me personally) only have one hole/CD drive

2. So instead of going to repair...I should just go to install windows off the pro disk?

3. Yes MBR

Right im back on, it wasnt a XP pro disk, it was service pack 2.

Anyway a mate brought round his XP disk, reinstalled XP which took ages!!

Some errors along the way but it seems to all be fine, now also with vista pack.

The one major problem is that it cant find my external hardrive, it dosent show on my computer but the lights blinking on it. Also when I plug it in, it says hardrive not in USB hi-speed hub. Well it's worked fine for AGES and it's usb 2.0 so it IS a high speed port :ermm:

How can I sort this??

Thanks alot for everyone help so far (Y)(Y):)

Intall the motherboard drivers for the usb ports.

Is SP2 definitely installed? That should sort out your USB troubles really. I didn't think motherboards needed drivers for their USB ports.

Rob, your should have got a disk that came with the computer with drivers and stuff on it, have a look for that. If not, you may have to hunt around on the manufacturer's website.

Rite,

Yesterday reinstalled windows, installed vista theme pack and object dock.

Installed 16 windows updates which took the best of an hour or more.

Still no external hardrive, mouse is now not working, had to reinstall msn and the vista theme has gone. :ermm: My start bar looks like windows 98'!

What the bloody hell is going on!

Everythings just changed. No usb ports working etc

I had to install new drivers etc for all usb ports and most of it is sorted now but the only problem is that my external hardrive (freecom 160gb) is not accesible.

It appears on my computer but I cant access it, this error appears "E:/ is not accesible, the request cannot be preformed due to a O/I error"

Now what the hell does that mean

I've tried it on my dads pc and the same error appears. This hardive has my life on it :P, music all my photos etc etc etc.

I NEED it back, please please help!!

Danny thinks that the hardrives packed up, but it's not that old, still under warreny etc, not been near any big magnets, not been bashed about. Is there anyway of recovering the data???

Thanks

Rob :(
