I Want To Spray My Zona.

I know there's a billion topics on it.

But I got fed up with all the mis-spellings, and people asking for it about their own bikes.

Anyway, In my search, I looked for a simple 'How to..'

But had no luck, i'm sure someone made one a while ago, but i couldn't find it.

Anyway, i wanna spray my Zona.

I'm planning on Nitromorsing it down, then spraying it.

First of all, is it like this:

  • Strip everything off bike
  • Nitromors frame
  • Spray base coat
  • Spray colour chosen
  • Done.
Or is it harder then that?

Would it be just as good just to spray over my grey paint? - Or would that end up looking shit?

For colours:

I'm stuck.

My mate suggested a dark blue, I quite like the sound of it, but I want something original, and preferabley dark. - I'm not a fan of luminous bikes.

White would look nice, but I never clean my bike. :P

For the dark blue, I was thinking like the colour of these..

Maybe even a bit darker?

Could someone send me in the right direction of what car colour would match that?

- One that'll be instore at work (Halfords) 'cause that's easier.

I might even pop in tomorrow, and have a look, and might even start to work on it tomorrow. Depending opn the replys I get. :turned:

I quite like the colour of what JoeMaher had his frame in, but that wouldm't be original now.

Or that custom 24" someone made?

Maybe military green?

I don't want black, becuase it's too plain and boring.

No 'popular' colours - red, light blue, yellow, light green etc.

Has to look good with black componants too...

Here's a pic of it now:

I'm a 'bike-tart' aswell.

So it basically must look good!

I'll have a play with photoshop now.

Just give me some ideas? :)

I used this How-to:

http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=46301

...and mine worked perfectly! Did mine outside in winter, didn't use any lacquer, and it's never chipped.

Just keep your frame and paint in the house for a bit before hand to make sure that they're at the same temp. Also I found it handy to hang my frame then hold a newspaper behind it as I sprayed so that it didn't go everywhere.

Cheers, Will

I painted my mates jump frame on my garage floor, (looks well cool now theres a silloete of it there) 2 coats of grey base then about 5-6 coats of actual paint and 3-4 coats of laquer, looks damn fine. So you should't have any problems with it.

Right.

Went into work today, and was there for aaages chosing colours.

I got some Nitromors, grey primer, clear lacquer.

Then for the colour; I chose a Renault Monaco Blue.

Had a 'test spray' on the bash of my T-Bird  and it looks soo nice.

I know it'll come out a little darker, but still..

I've got most of the paint off at the moment.

I think they Grey Zips are anodised, as it took Nitromors, and a scouler pad thing to get the paint off!

Thanks for all the replys. :)

Im a proffesional panel beater and sprayer, i work on every make of car, repairing and spraying them, its quite simple to spray a frame,

strip it, sand it down smooth, using about an 80 grit paper 1st, amybe a 120 grit, then work your way up the grades, up to a 320 then probly a 500, make sure its all smooth,

then blow off, preffrably with an airline, get some panel wipe, wipe it over so its dirt free,

use and etch primer 1st, especially on bare metal, then use some ordinary metal primer spray, then top coats, then laquar. Make sure you give even coats and coverage at a distance of about 15 cm away from frame, polish it after dry, wet falt any runs (Y)

Ok.

So i've finished spraying it.

And cleaned it all up, then laquered it.

Do I just have to wait for the lacquer to dry? (24hrs) and that's it?

Or does it need another coat of paint, then lacquer or something?

no mate, thats it really, you can give it another coat of laquer if you really want, really shine it up and get bits that you might have missed (the bits that look dry) other than that, your done, if youve got any runs you can flat them out, wet on wet with 800 grade paper, then polish it up, but as its just a frame, it dont have to be perfect. I had a frame and i was going to respray it at work in a 7 clour flip, we had some paint left over from a mini we resprayed, couldnt be bothered in the end thgough.
