Why Couldent Trials Be Cheap?

Well reasons why trials aint cheap well ill tell you some good reasons on march 1st i went on a trip to falcon cycles factory production with my manufacturing class to do with the course. The guy steve who works there says that they ship £400 claud butlers in for £40 and that sure is cheap labour i know claud butler doesnt have anything to do with the trials scene. i suppose but if you think about are bikes that we are riding must of been shipped in real cheap from the manufacturers and i can guarantee that some trials manufacturers do poor labouring. I suppose as they find it cheaper to get them made then sell them off at a retail price of their own.

That's bollocks. Everything else has to have the same production processes and material costs, it's just that making 10,000 specialized rockhopper frames makes it a lot cheaper per frame than producing 1000 Zoo pitbulls. (Theoretical figures obviously...)

things like this cost money...so they have to make prophit..so u think using and maintaining machines is free do you?

Think of it this way. Using rough numbers.

Scott are producing 1000 frames a day with their machines.

Koxx are making 50 a day.

Both firms pay the same overheads(electricity, running costs) but Scott will make more out of it because they have an extra 950 frames to sell to make more back. Also look up economies of scale, about how producing more is cheaper, i would explain but business was so long ago i can't remember too well.

Also the complicity of a trials frame, A cross country frame is pretty simple, one shape pretty much for a lot of frames, just the simple frame look.

Then look at a trials frame, say the monster boy or a vinco, the designs look a lot harder and will cost more to make.

most trials frames have incredible markup there made for like 70 quid and sold for 400 and thats 70 quid includes all the labour and the maintaining of the machines. however 3-4 years ago you could'nt get a trials frame for under 400 whereas now the prices are dropping because it is becoming more of a recognised sport not just something professional mototrials riders use to train on, the manufacturing processes will still be pretty similar so there's no great change in how much these frames are made for either.

take deng for example when there was just zoo and echo the frames were priced around 395 quid now after adding three more names to his company he has been able to significantly drop prices because there is more demand so trials 3-4 years ago was way more expensive than it is now and prices are likely to drop further as there is more and more demand but like all "fads" they die out skate boarding 5 years ago was massive everyone had or wanted one but now there are only the usual old faces involved trials will go this way as well so in another 3-4 years frame prices will be back up again because less people will be doing it

You can't really compare a trials frame to a full supension dh or xc frame. I used to ride trials but have now moved to xc and freeride. The frame i have now is far more complex than any trials frame. Hydroformed tubing, linkages, bearings, support beams, rear shock etc. Trials is expensive because of relaitvely low interest in the sport (comapre it to a sport like tennis/football etc). All 'specialised' biking is the same. High specification bikes cost more to produce, this makes the initial sale price high, there aren't many people that are willing to pay hundreds of pounds for a bike. Therefore the prices remain high. Simple. Its the same for components aswell.

Every frame manufacturer has pretty much the same machining and labour costs, you seemed to be saying that trials is expensive 'cos they use machines...

Considering that these huge asian bike part factorys often produce many, many different components then the machine costs really arent that much of a problem. Especially seeing as the workers probably get a few pence a day...
