  4. Hi all, Below are British Cycling's selection criteria for the 2012 World Championship in Saafelden, Austria from the 6th to the 9th September 2012. If you have any queries, please contact British Cycling's Mountainbike Coordinator, Roger Wilbraham, at rogerwilbraham@britishcycling.org.uk Selection Criteria: 2012 UCI Trials World Championships Strategy The aims of the GB Cycling Team at World Championships remain consistent with other disciplines. These are simply to win medals and gain top ten places. Selections are prioritised for riders who are likely medal contenders. If it is not felt that there are British riders capable of attaining these performances, then a team will not be entered in that category of the World Championships. Selections may be made of younger, or less experienced riders who have an identified need to experience competition at this level and are deemed to have the potential to win medals in Major Championships in future years. All selections are made by a selection panel chaired by the Mountainbike Coordinator. A minimum of two further selection panel members are nominated by the Bike Trial Federation. Those nominees will not be related to any selected rider. To ensure the panel and the Mountain Bike Coordinator can select the best UK based riders, all selected riders should have competed in at least 2 British Trials Cup or Championship events as listed below. British Cycling will pay for the cost of appropriate team clothing for all riders and staff. A Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager will be appointed and a subsidy payment will be awarded for both roles. The appointed team will not be known until selection has been finalised. Elite Trials Elite men and women: The team will be selected for the elite events on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The selection panel will consider only riders deemed to be competitive at this level, and may elect to take fewer than the maximum permitted riders for these events. The panel would consider the following factors in coming to a decision: World Cup and Continental Championships performances in the period: March - July 2012. Top 15 male performances will be considered. The selection panel will take account of the age and experience of riders and the quality of field. Female riders will be assessed based on the field of entries. British National Trials: Top 3 performances in the “UCI World Elite Class” will be considered. The selection panel will take account of the age and experience of riders, the quality of field and the nature of the courses. Quality of field can be defined by a non World Cup rider beating a rider that has scored top 15 at World Cup level in the same year. Competitive performances in international events will receive a weighting. Sunday 14th March - British Trials Cup Round 1 - Bracken Rocks, Derbyshire Sunday 6th May - British Trials Cup Round 2 - Blackpool, Lancashire Saturday 9th June - British Trials Cup Round 3 - Nevis Range, Fort William, Sunday 10th June - British Trials Cup Round 4 - Nevis Range, Fort William Sunday 1st July - British Trials Cup Round 5 - Barrow Farm, Essex Junior Trials Junior men and women: The team will be selected for the Junior events on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The selection panel will consider both riders deemed to be competitive at this level, and those who have an identified need to experience competition at this level, who are deemed to have potential to win medals in Major Championships in future years. Selection is on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The panel would consider the following factors in coming to a decision: World Cup performances in the period: March - July 2012. Top 25 performances in Elite World Cups will be considered. The selection panel will take account of the age and experience of riders, the quality of field and the nature of the courses. British National Trials: Top 3 performances will be considered. The selection panel will take account of the age and experience of riders, the quality of field and the nature of the courses. Competitive performances in international events will receive a weighting. 2012-WorldChampsSelectionCriteria.pdf
  5. No Ben, as you're on the judging team you CAN'T win! Entries coming in now, some unusual ideas ... good luck everyone.
  6. COMPETITION - Design a riding shirt The Biketrial Federation, with funds provided by sponsors, want to provide British riders attending international trials events with a Great Britain riding shirt to enable them to show that they are riding for Britain without having to pay for their own shirt. The competition is to design that shirt! It can be long-sleeved or short-sleeved, whichever you like. The winning entry will receive a cheque for £20.00 plus their own exclusive version of the shirt! The rules are as follows: The design must include the Biketrial Federation's logo (attached below) The design must include the Union Jack flag. The design must include some appropriate wording. The design must be suitable to use on either a white or coloured shirt (please also make your suggestion of colour to go with your design). Send entries to: trial_entry@biketrialuk.co.uk The email should include your name and address (to send the prize to if you should win). 7. That's what I told them! Thanks very much everyone, an email's gone off to insurers. Will let you know the outcome.
  8. Thanks very much everyone, an email's gone off to insurers. Will let you know the outcome.
  9. That's brilliant, really shows how they're controlled. Could you please post a link so I can email it to him. Thanks a lot. Are there any showing natural riding too?
  10. We have a rider wanting to compete at trials on a unicycle. Insurers don't fully understand how it can be done and how it's controlled. If you have any links to good unicycle trials videos, please put then in here to support our case!
  11. Ok, spoken to them today, they have been uncertain because of their lack of understanding HOW unicycles will do trials! I've explained the best I can and it's sounding promising. What will help the case is if he could see some unicycle trials videos. Can anyone post a few links on here which will show them? Particularly about how it's controlled. Barbara
  12. Sorry I've not got back to you yet on this, waiting for an email reply from them. Will chase it up tomorrow. Only about 6 weeks away now!
  13. Excellent question, would be great to watch. I will speak to insurers tomorrow to check.
  14. The 2012 season is now under way and entries are open for the first round of the 2012 British Trials Cup. It will take place on Sunday 18th March at Bracken Rocks, near Matlock in Derbyshire. Entries can be made online via the events page, or by downloading the attached entry form and sending it in the post. Full details of the series and the changes that have been made to the rules and policies can be found on the Biketrial Federation website and in this thread. Hope to see plenty of you there! 2012-BC-Rnd1-BrackenRocks.pdf
  15. Hey, feel free to ask as many quesitons as you want - if you don't ask, you don't get to know! Barbara
  16. Hi, at the bottom of every entry form is a bit of information about getting accommodation or camping. Bracken Rocks has a campsite not too far away Blackpool may be a little more difficult for camping as it's in a built up area, although loads of B&B type accommodation and there is camping available a little way out of town Fort William - loads of camping, but recommend that you book in advance if possible, it gets quite full because of the World Cup. Barrow Farm, camping on site as part of Radfest Hook Wood, will be camping on site (I think) Shipley Glen, camp site just up the road. Hope you can make it!
  17. Great to see so much interest (and renewed interest from some old faces)! Blackpool has been confirmed - just need to sort out some final permits - we're looking forward to being back there!
  18. Yes it is Rob, I think you were the either the 2nd or 3rd person to suggest it !!! Many thanks for suggestions, just goes to show that we listen!
  19. Just spoken to the council again - Blackpool confirmed Yes, 24" ride with 26" If there are enough of you "old" guys to run a class then there could just be a senior class for you!
  20. From watching your video, I would say that you'd be fine in Intermediate class. Primary and Novice classes are for younger and beginner riders really and as such don't feature any/many moves where you need to be able to pedal hop etc., more rolling moves where balance and bike handling are important. As Dave mentioned, you can move up or down a class after up to three sections if you decide the class you have entered is too easy or difficult. I'd suggest entering Novice or Intermediate class (it looks like Primary would be too easy for you) and then on the day have a look at the sections and see what you think, give it a go and see how you get on. Yep, as Robin said, where it says 'pedal dabs not allowed', it means that you follow the Biketrial Federation's UCI style rules, where you get a dab (1 penalty point) each time any part of the bike apart from the tyres touches the section. Foot dabs are scored in the same way as for the BIU style rules. You don't need a licence or permit to enter any Biketrial Federation events - anyone, including riders from abroad (we had a Romanian rider enter the round at RadFest this year), can enter and ride if they like. The nearest rounds to London would be the Barrow Farm/RadFest round in July or the Hook Woods round in September. Feel free to email me at membership@biketriluk.co.uk if you would like any more info. Thanks. We borrowed it from motorbike trials, where it seems to work very well. We thought it would make the transition from Intermediate to Expert to Elite a bit smoother and envourage riders to move up a class more readily. Expert at club rounds and Cadet at the nationals sounds like a good idea - should give you a good balance We're really pleased that people like the changes that we've made and hope that it encourages people to come along and have a go! Hope to see you all next year!
  21. Following the Biketrial Federation's annual meeting at British Cycling HQ in Manchester on Sunday, some interesting changes have been made to the series for 2012. First up, we will be running seven rounds of the British Trials Cup, as opposed the five we have been running previously. The one-off British Trials Championship is no more and the title of British Champion will have to be contested over all seven events this year (with points from five out of the seven events being counted): Rnd 1 - Sunday 18th March - Bracken Rocks, Derbyshire - Organised by Biketrial Federation - Confirmed Rnd 2 - Sunday 6th May - Blackpool North Shore, Lancashire - Organised by Biketrial Federation - Provisional Rnd 3 - Saturday 9th June - Fort William, Scotland - Organised by Scottish Biketrial Club - Provisional Rnd 4 - Sunday 10th June - Fort William, Scotland - Organised by Scottish Biketrial Club - Provisional Rnd 5 - Sunday 1st July - Radfest, Barrow Farm, Essex - Organised by Biketrial Federation - Confirmed Rnd 6 - Sunday 16th September - Hook Woods, Surrey - Organised by Crowthorne Cycle Trial Club - Confirmed Rnd 7 (Final) - Sunday 14th October - Shipley Glen, Yorkshire - Organised by TykeTrial Club - Confirmed There was also a lot of discussion took place about section severity and the progression of riders throughout the classes, which resulted in the following changes being made: All classes run to Biketrial Federation rules. Primary Class - White route - Pedal dabs allowed Novice Class - Green route - Pedal dabs allowed Ladies Class - 50% Green route & 50% Blue route - Pedal dabs allowed Intermediate Class - Blue route - Pedal dabs allowed Senior Class (28+) - Blue route - Pedal dabs allowed Cadet Class - 50% Blue route & 50% Red route - Pedal dabs allowed Expert Class 20" and Expert Class 26" - Red route - Pedal dabs NOT allowed Elite Class 20" and Elite Class 26" - 50% Red route & 50% Yellow route - Pedal dabs NOT allowed UCI World Elite Class (any wheel size) - Yellow route - Pedal dabs NOT allowed The UCI World Elite Class is for any rider wishing to be considered to represent Britain in the UCI World Championship. The Elite Selection Policy will remain in force as it has been, but with an additional paragraph that those qualified to ride Elite may choose which of the three classes they enter. Further details are available on our website (www.biketrialuk.co.uk). It will take a bit of time to prepare the minutes of the meeting, update the policies and the website, and make the necessary changes to the rule book, please bear with us while all this gets done over the Christmas holidays.
  22. It's taken a week to complete the year end paperwork, sort the photos and at last update the website, but do check it out and the results. Well done to everyone who has taken part this year, and well done to the winners.
