  1. Do it. Trials is the best form of cycling with young children. I have 2 sons (aged 4 and 2). From about 2 and a half Hamish my eldest has been able to come to the park and ride with us (on his kick bike) when we ride trials. Trials is low speed so there is no drama about them not being able to keep up. Sure you can't go gapping on to busy roads or riding crazy beach rocks with a 2 year old but as a beginner I'm sure you have no desire to do that anyway. Even if you aren't taking kids along trials is great, you can head out on to the street for a 30 minute spin and work on those trackstands, 180s, hops and manuals then be back in time for dinner. Obviously living in Australia I can ride year round with the kids and that may be tricky for you guys in the UK but I'm sure you can make it work. Photo attached is of my eldest having a crack at a novice section on the kickbike.
  2. I run the TNN clamps with no booster on my Onza Ice with the TNN Belaey pads and it works a treat. My frame was actually the one that got filed down in the video. How much it helps really depends on the alignment of your frame. My Ice was out by a little bit which was noticeable if you looked for it. Even before filing the frame my brake (with LGMs at the time) had worked very well, it just took a bit of bedding in, which you expect with the LGMs anyway. Certainly worth doing if you want the setup dialed. With the filed mounts and the Belaey pads my bed in was pretty much instant.

    Leeds 2009

Good stuff, great to see Lewis riding in his native environment I'm so used to seeing him on the Hydroxx now it seems odd to see the Ashton again. Liked the video as well, nice style from all the riders and not to long.
  4. Another great video from Akrigg. Makes me want to ride as usual.

    Lewis Greenhalgh

nice video Simon, nice riding Lewis.
  6. On the weekend we had our National Championships in Australia with Joe Brewer and Andrew Dickey being forced into a ride off after both finished on 3 dabs. I have put together the footage I got of their ride off in a little youtube video: Youtube Video -> ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

    Andrew Dickey

Andy and Joe just had the closest finish I've seen in the Australian titles this weekend. Andy narrowly missed out on the title after finishing equal with Joe on 3 dabs. They then had a ride off for first place which Joe managed to win. Both are awesome riders and ride together a lot. This is a great video.

    Morgan Limey 3

You are doing that bike proud. Very pleased to see it all coming together so nicely for you.
  9. Yep that colour is really nice, I had neglected to ask Mike and Joe what colour they would be when I ordered them so it was a nice surprise when I pulled 1 out of the box. With Morgan's build the geo comes out at 1010 352 67 though the forks Onza work with in their design are slightly longer so it is pretty much spot on as claimed. Good chance the Australian 20" Championship will won aboard an Onza in 2010.

    Onza Ice

Nice bike. I just got one myself last week. I have been waiting on a new batch of White Sky frames to be available but when this arrived from Onza I thought it looked great so I built it up. I am very happy with the result. I still want to do a few upgrades like a new front wheel, ti bolts and new TNN brake mounts but otherwise it rocks.
  11. I think integration of parts is something we might see more of at some point. Brake calipers built into the frame. Front freewheel cranks that use an integrated driver rather then screw on freewheel. Might also be a 2pc crank. Bottom brackets similar to the BB30 system, maybe for the above 2pc crank. Non of them 100% fresh ideas but I could see them happening based on current trends in the MTB world.
  12. I'm joining this chat a little late but I do have two opinions on how to deal with the anti-trials folk of this world: 1) Ignore them 2) Engage them in dialogue. Be reasonable, don't swear, don't abuse. Be proud of the fact that you ride street trials, explain that you see it as public space and this is how you choose to use it. Explain that you are riding trials not doing heroin or spray painting a wall. If they want to be an idiot and shout at you let them waste their breath. It is pretty funny when you get an older "respectable" person abusing a young "lout" who is being polite and well mannered. Sometimes this works and people actually come around and sometimes they are to stuck in their ways... but who cares. See how brave the people with the cameras are when you politely ask what they are taking photos of. Maybe ask them politely for a copy. You don't need to win the argument, just keep riding, keep being polite and fighting for the cause politely and you will gain the high ground. 5 years ago we used to get abused by an upstanding member of the local community when we rode street down on the beach front, eventually we agreed that we would all check our tempers and try to talk politley with him. After 4 weeks we had won him over and he was always really polite. Don't stoop to their level.
  13. Jack (my brother) is a bit of a weight weenie with his bike... all to counteract that massive head of hair. Any pics of Jack in action? I couldn't see any on the face book album.
  14. Always very inspirational vids, no one else has mucking around on a bike dialed like Akrigg. I have been getting back into downhill again lately myself and I know where he is coming from just enjoying getting the googles and tyres and all that stuff that is a bit different from trials.
  15. Can I use that quote in promotional material I made a little video blog of myself fitting up an 18t bashguard sprocket from TNN Product looks great.
  16. Nice work boys. Some classic Brisbane riding spots in that one. Tim
  17. This is a collection of footage from some recent rides and comps here in Australia. Features Lewis Greenhalgh from Leeds, Colombian Patricio Escobar and a bunch of other talented Aussie riders. You can currently check it out on youtube Hopefully I will have a better quality downloadable version online soon. Tim
  18. I must have been about 22 when I started (MTB before that) I'm turning 30 next year. We have a few guys in our trials club older then me who ride and compete against their sons and daughters in the same events. I think it is great that trials is a sport people of all ages can do together. My 18 month old son has started trying to ride trials on his tricycle, I will never tell him he is to old to ride a bicycle... my father races endurance cross country and he is 61 next month.
  19. My brother has recently been doing some light weights work to help improve his riding. He reckons it is helping improve his power and strength on the bike and felt the benefits fairly quickly. He is already a very proficient rider who competes in the top Pro class in Australian comps so I think it would be fair to say that practicing technique comes first and then strength training second.
  20. I live in Australia, probably not much help getting you stickers. Try a sign writer or look up vinyl sticker cutting. Might cost you a bit but could be worth while.
  21. I reckon white with a colour scheme in the parts and maybe some stickers to match. Right now I reckon white with green is a cool look. Find someone with a sticker cutter to make up some custom stickers.
  22. Would love to do a riding trip in NZ one day. I live in Australia and while I have been over a couple of times I have never taken my bike. I imagine there would be some great natural if you knew where to look. Tim
  23. A mate of mine suggested I should tell people "I was born with a medical condition where I don't have an arse and therefore can't sit down on a bicycle". I haven't had the guts to say it yet though. Normally I'm just polite and tell them about trials.
  24. Specialized do their skillet helmet in dark blue with pink straps if you want to get a matching helmet to go with your blue and pink bike!
