I've just got a new frame that doesn't have 4-bolt mounts, and I'm wondering about how best to fit an HS33 to it. I know I'll need the Evo mounts, but what kind of booster do I need? I know I'll need the clamps, but do I have to have the original booster arch thing? This (thanks PaRtZ for the image): Can I use my Gu 4-bolt booster instead? Sorry for the n00bish question. :$ EDIT: Just from looking at the Magura PDF, am I right in thinking I could use my booster with the original Evo mounts (circled) but not the Evo2 mounts?

I'd recommend DOT 5.1 over DOT 4... Simple reason being that DOT 5.1 won't cause your skin, paintwork, and anything else it touches to peel faster than you can say "Oh God, it burns." It's more expensive, but worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Mine's very light, I didn't weigh it as a frameset but it really did seem silly light when I was carrying it back from the shop. 4.6lb is heavy? I didn't think it was too bad? Seemed light for street frame anyway, at least compared to the steel alternatives. You've got me thinking now. I've no idea what trials frames weigh. What would people say is the average weight for a trials frame?

Had a Hayes HFX-9 on the back.... Didn't like it. Not enough grab and hold for me. I'm digging the Maggie at the minute; damn they're noisy when they're wet! I think I just annoyed half my neighbourhood. I'd try another Hope O2 Pro with another Leeson rotor on the back, to match the front, but I don't have the cash, and I'm still not convinced it'd be enough. Thanks for the kind words so far people!

Heh, yeah, that Gu booster with the brake is lovely - once it's on! I don't think anyone knows what a bitch Magura's are to fit until they try. I certainly didn't. I have a feeling it'd be easier with no booster and normal length bolts, but where's the fun in that? It used to be light, for what it is - with a rear disc, no front brake and slightly lighter wheels it weighed 25.4lb, but I haven't weighed it since changing quite a lot. It's heavier now, but not by all that much. It's certainly no "heavyweight" bike.

Went for the Ryan Leech, old-skool style bike as I use this for a bit of everything, from just getting around to street, jumping, and trials. Also because I used to ride a lot more some years back, and wanted to build up with the parts I wanted then now that I've got some money. Yes, I have vertical dropouts and no tensioner. ZOMG!!! I hit lucky with 'magic' gearing, a fairly old pre-stretched chain and a half-link piece, perfect chain tension. Geared 32:18 currently - high for trials, kinda low for everything else. This bike is all about compromise. But it works! I love it - the way it rides, handles, everything. I don't reckon, I've just started riding so you wouldn't know me that way. I'm in the sixth form at Farlingaye at the minute. So there are riders where I am! Good to hear. Alright, figured it - my TPA was sticking before going to the end of it's travel, and my wheel is dished to one side. It'll be fine once that's sorted. Thanks for the help people!

I'm sure they can - my point is my wheels are perfectly fine for what I do, and I don't really want the hassle of rebuilding them and buying a new rim when the one I've got is perfectly alright. I'll try dishing the wheel, then I might have to think again.

I guess it must do. That's annoying, but shouldn't take too long. I loosen the side that's too close and tighten the side that's too far, right? Problem is that my bike isn't strictly trials specific - I use it for street and dirt jumping as well, so I don't really want to lose the all round ability.

That's not what's happening - both pistons move perfectly together, but one is closer to the wheel than the other, and the one furthest away can't be moved in any more. I bled it with water this morning, and there's no problem with the bleed.

I've just fitted my new (to me) Magura HS33 rear brake, and it seems impossible to get both pads to hit properly at the same time. At the minute it seems to work well, but one side hits far before the other. The side that hits afterwards is adjusted as far in as it can possibly go, the other side quite far in without a much room to move it further in. I'm running a Woodman Elite frame with four bolt mounts, and 24Seven Supercross rims which I'm pretty sure are 32mm wide. The pads are Snowy's, and are somewhat worn at an angle (secondhand brake). Any thoughts? I've looked at the Tensile offset mounts, but they don't seem to allow the brake to move any further in unless it's at 90 degrees to the seatstay. The brake does work, but it's not ideal - what can I do to sort it out?

Man, I got validated within 4 days of joining the forum. I know practically nothing about trials. All I did was post when I had a question, or had something worth sharing, or (least likely) I knew the answer to help someone else out. So, the system works. Perhaps if you didn't post threads that contravened almost every guideline for new members? Worth a try.

A half link chain will help as well for finer adjustments.

Just wondering, any riders here in or near Woodbridge willing to meet an utter n00b? :$ The search button suggests there aren't, but it's worth a shot. I know I've seen a couple people in town riding trials.

I like my TSG pisspot for street riding, mainly because it covers more of the back of my head for when I loop out backwards. I also have a Trek normal XC style helmet if it's really hot. Got to get some stickers for the TSG though. It's illegal to own a pispot that doesn't have stickers on it.

Mug an old lady. Deal drugs. Have you considered getting a job? Selling some stuff? There's no real "magic" way to make money.
