  1. tell Robin to stop messing about on computers and make me one, that's his area I believe
  2. BGW needs to exist, BGW started the aero for me. In reality, the splitters effect seems to have largely over ruled the wing. The wing improved the car a little, and it's effects could be felt clearly, but the splitter REALLY changed it dramatically. With the wing removed, the splitters effects are still very obvious, and the car still feels good, but I wouldn't say it negates the wings requirement entirely. Whilst the splitter has sorted out how air moves over the car after it hits the front, there will still be lift generated at the back. the splitter is just making the whole car feel more stable at speed, so lessens the requirement for the wing perhaps. I'd say it's probably a 70-30 or 80-20 split, but the wing will remain until I can sort out something a little better. perhaps an even bigger gayer wing, who knows!
  3. Please stop talking about my car like it's your project it isn't BGW will probably remain off for the road, but will always be refitted for track, as it makes a noticeable difference.
  4. Agreed, looks fantastic. There's something about a Porsche 911 that just really does it for me. I've got no idea what, but they're just, 'proper' Drove the A3 to work today, so thought I'd add a pic or two, just to show that it is possible to make a poor image even worse with the use of some free editing apps Brakes bedding in nicely now, judder has all but gone to a light vibration on light application at a certain speed only. I think it was mainly pad deposits, as the old pads were DS2500's, which are famous for causing horrid judder when changing away from ferrodo pads. A few more miles and they should be bang on
  5. yea man I bet, DET sounds pretty bad-ass doesn't it or perhaps what you heard was a lean missfire
  6. Biki? Nill? D'oh. Spunky already posted. Looking forward to seeing what the old turdo will do Georgos!
  7. I had some old brakes. They looked tired: so I sprinkled a bit of fairy dust around, and turned them into AP 4 pots instead: Sadly, we took a gamble on these used discs being OK, and they're not. So I now have epic braking power and fancy looking Ap brakes, that don't work all that well because they judder. Going to try and get the discs skimmed and see how that works out.
  8. yes mate. Jack knight SC drops, and a jack knight straight cut close ratio gearset as well. Sounds absolutely amazing!
  9. What's wrong with it it's at the front, what more does it need
  10. it is I'm still getting used to it again, and havn't really opened it up really fully yet due to the brakes needing some attention. We did a little pull to 7k in all the gears on Sunday and it felt great I need to get it back into my head that I'm not hurting it when pushing it on to 7k, because it's just SOOOO loud it's unreal. Can't get enough of the straight cut box though, just blipping it and downshifting approaching bends is the best sound ever!
  11. Took both the cars out for a spin with Jardo on Sunday evening. Was still light when we took Mini out, so we got a few pics. It’s looking a little tired after 2 years in the garage, and this was after it’s first very light clean. Going to need some proper work on the paintwork to get it looking it’s best again, but I’m sure Jardo can sort it out
  12. Ask him not to do any high speed runs between now and then. or you'll need a new bootlid Excellent news mate! AP's almost ready to go on now:
  13. A-series engined MG metro would be a good shout. What about a fiesta Zetec S? slightly too good? they're cheap, great chassis, lovely little engine, bit over your powe requirements though. i knwo exactly what you're looking for though, makes lots of sense. I thrash the living shit out of my 95bhp tdci fiesta, it's slow as hell, but handles great, and is actually really fun to drive. A3 just scares the shit out of me if i try to drive it fast anywhere other than a race track.
  14. Pictures to prove it happened! Epic flooding on the way to the MOT station, was late so had no choice but to drive through it. Came in through the floor and I got SOAKED! Made it to the MOT station fine On the ramps: And it's free!!!! I have missed this view

  16. what made you think it was gone in the first place?
  17. Jardo will be your man for that. I know of many decent roads, but they're all south of you. The roads out to Finchampstead and Hartley Wintney are really nice, and not too far from you. Try just taking a trip down the reading / basingstoke road and randomly turning off down some smaller side roads and see where you end up! In others news..... 2 years, 1 month, and 3 weeks in the garage since Mini last moved under it's own steam. Fitted new front brake pipes, , bled brakes, bolted the front suspension back up, charged the battery. A few other little jobs, and I pressed the button, and it lives! http://youtu.be/nIoN66mqFgg
  18. Sadly, most garages will simply fix what's broken as simply as possible, and not look for the cause of the failure. This makes it as cheap as possible for them, whilst still charging you the full whack, and more often than not gives you a reason to return when it fails again. As for the limp mode, that's a very VAG TDI thing, many of them do it, and fairly randomly. I've never known how to cure it though, just dealt with it.
  19. Mike, if the problem happened when you were low on oil, and it's back already after just a few hundred miles, I'd be worried about a possible blockage in the oil supply to the turbo. Insurance wise, I also didn't have much luck on a second car with Brentacre, heard amazing things from others, but they quoted me £780 on the A3 at 380bhp, compared to just £500 from greenlight.
  20. so you're going to bolt those somewhere in the inlet tract, turn the key, then try and drive it and see what happens? that'll be interesting! My bets are it won't even run with the smallest hole, just looks FAR too small I'd have thought! it'll try and ingest the plate, then when it can't suck any more it'll collapse any non rigid hoses engine side of the plate. interesting subject for sure, looking forward to your results! how will be you be quantifying the running data in various states of restriction?
  21. Alloy not ideal really, proper splitter is massive, goes back to the front subframe and further. Quite a big task fitting one really
  22. Everything needs a splitter! Totally transformed mine Does look pretty gay anywhere other than on track though....
  23. I bought my A3 all those years ago with money left to me by my gran when she died. 7 years down the line it doesn't feel irresponsible or short sighted to me! Why spend inheritance money on something 'to remember' someone that you don't really need? They didn't leave it to you to be nostalgic, they left it to you to help you out a bit! Spend it on something you need that'll get you somewhere.
  24. JD: Looks like a 330CS, Jardo says it is too from the for sale link, but how come only one tailpipe?
