Off topic, but didn't you find inception to be far too confusing? I thought there was too much going on all the time and not enough film to explain it all well...

Butter absorbs the thc, so you don't have to eat plant. The reason butter is used is because thc is oil soluble. Just eating buds would take a fair bit longer than when used with butter too as your body can break down butter easier than a plant. Thc is also soluble in alchohol, which doesn't require heat.
