  1. I'm best at the start of a ride...loads of energy and the adrenaline keeps you going but after 2-3 hours if I stop for a rest I just can't be bothered doing anything hoppy....I think for me it's cos I don't get to go out much on the bike anymore. Definately get more scared of big drops...I think you think about the consequences more as you get older cos the implications are worse!
  2. I might try a 180 if I can find an adaptor then...can I use any brand of disc?
  3. Yes, 203...think reducing will make it more progressive? Its super powerful/light at the lever etc so I get why lots of riders like them but you can be rolling on the front wheel and it'll suddenly grab.
  4. ...of course you do.
  5. yeah, i noticed at least one of the new deng frames has a gap there...don't think it means the frame will fall apart but it's easy to reinforce anyway
  6. downloading podcasts now....thanks!
  7. If there's still a gap you can have a little plate in there. All I was saying is that either a 100x10 stem with a mountain of spacers or a longer/much higher stem don't looks right on a streety bike...it's just something that looks like it could be corrected in the frame with some development.
  8. ...same as what I meant and explained just as badly.
  9. for me a good compromise...I can still mess about doing the hoppy stuff and it's good fun for more streety rolling stuff...I just find the BB7 a bit grabby and wonder if a Hope would be better. It looks longer than it is, I think cos it's lower than most bikes with a seat. ...stuck the seat down a bit since the pics...doesn't need to be up that much.

    Hmm..

got one. rides nice with correct sized wheels....looks daft on 24"...makes it too low and seem long put the seat at the right height so you can use it (a bit lower than wheel height)...no point slamming it just for the sake of it.
  11. It's raining so took some pics of some new bits I bought... I wanted to make my freetrials a bit more 'free'....I must be old 'cos I can't cope with a bike thats good at hopping but back-breaking to pedal around/bunnyhop. Tried a few different seat options from plastic things to a slammed 'conventional' set-up but I like the slim pivotal seats so think it's the way to go....also trying out an Easton bar & stem as the long/low/wide set up I had wasn't for me. ...at some point the fork will get changed and the brake for something less grabby. Comments/criticisms welcome, it's only a bike.
  12. Dunno, I'd have to draw it in CAD to really work it out...also depends how much front end height there is to gain. Thinking and typing again: I totally agree adjusting BB height for the sake of stem stackers can be ruled out as an option. The headtube could be slightly longer (not stupid long) assuming the rest of the design is sympathetic to it. Just having the headtube taller 'at the top' and without repositioning any of the tubing or reinforcements would weaken, like you say but if you repositioning the top tube/look at the tube profile where it meets the headtube could add some height. Maybe a frame/fork combo would work better? Another thought - what looks wierd doesn't really matter. Mod bikes look wierd (especially ridden by grown men)....to some people a bicycle with no seat is wierd....it's just perception, people just get used to what they see. Design development always has to come before perception.
  13. I didn't mean to start a steerer tube debate - was just thinking and typing! Yes, I agree for longer stems/reach and as a compromise to use with the current design....but to me neither option looks right on a streety bike and I must be old-school as 95mm to me still feels like a loooong stem I was thinking of something shorter! It's obviously not a huge problem in terms of selling the bikes but in future development (not specifically the inspired but 24" trials/street crossover bikes in general) it's something that could be corrected/developed in frame design... Do you think a handlebar specifically designed for the bike would work? Something like a low BMX bar (to use with BMX stem) but with more reach built into the shape of it? Lastly... Sorry to use your bike as a point of criticism....it looks amazing. I can't help thinking about solutions to design problems, it's all I've ever done for the past 10 or so years, so it's inbuilt! I took your advice on the easton bar and stem by the way but haven't had a chance to ride it yet.
  14. In practice the stem option isn't the same as a 35deg stem long enough to put the bars at an equivalent height would mean a longer reach. I still think that either having to run a load of spacers/wierd stem makes the design fundamentally flawed. That said, this bike looks awesome!
  15. Riding looks good for only 2 months. Wouldn't worry too much about getting better - it'll just happen through riding (apparently, although I'm still waiting). My only tips are don't rely on pogo-stick bikes and keep it smooth.
  16. I don't understand all this stuff about 'improving'....just ride and have fun. If you get better at it, it's just a bonus
  17. ..dont try to quit. This will fail. Quit or don't quit....there is no try!
  18. I'm not sure what F1 car design has do do with trials riders wearing lycra but I think I know what you're trying to say. The running is a better analogy; if it was of any real benefit then great....let's all go out and buy skinsuits. My opinion is that it makes f*** all difference for most trials riders. If it made a significant difference we'd all be wearing it, talking about what new tights are out this year, buying the latest in lycra from Tarty... edit: If someone thinks it helps them and they're ok with the lycra look, go for it...just don't quote a load of bs about detox...
  19. There's so much wrong I can't be bothered to argue it. Many misinformed comments. A beginners course for common sense can be found at www.badscience.net On another point, whilst I can agree that for trials there'll be some minor plusses of lycra in terms of low weight, movement, these benefits are far outweighed by looking like a complete knob. Some of the worlds best riders havent been held back by their jeans/t-shirt/trainers riding gear....xc, roadies - fair enough, there just isn't the need for it for trials.
  20. "...aiding the expulsion of toxins and other waste materials..." Complete nonsense. Edited as I only just saw this little comedy gem.... "...I think that lycra looks quite cool these days..." ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I watched The Hangover last night...that was funny, this is in a different class. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
  21. I had a decent break from riding too...it fizzled out while I was in uni (so I must have been maybe 21 or 22)...and took it up again recently at 27.
  22. ...only thing with my BB7 is if you dont want the disc to rub, you constantly have to be adjusting the pad position.....so the brake will always feel slightly different under 'normal braking' (won't matter if you just want on/off braking). I have a magura on another bike that hasn't needed anything except pads in about 10 years....and it's still better than a bb7
