  1. Great footage, but Andrew Tonkery had excellent taste in music.
  2. A friend who competes in Xterra uses a hockey goalie size bag. A smaller size would be perfect for a trials bike and LOTS of clothes. 10 flights never busted!
  3. Wow! That's huge. Congrats yet again. You may save this sport after all. I must add though. Doing stunts in a movie about bike messengers!!!! OHHHHH NOOOOO!! That fixie trend is imploding as we speak. Tight pants are starting to appear in second hand shops. Emo kids are starting too smile again. Google "Quicksilver" with Kevin Bacon from the 80's another shite movie about messengers. If you are gapping 180 to rear on a posengers forehead, then by all means. I'd hate to see the Mac name attatched to the lameness of American Fixie culture. Those slackers wouldn't pay to see a movie anyway. At least they are on bikes and not Hummers.
  4. 32 and going on 8 years riding. Got up to low level pro, been sick for 3 months,so I'm having to start from scratch again. Just built my first frame. Pics to come
  5. Though I haven't tried any lightweight rotors yet, I cannot stress enough the importance of burning in your rotors and pads. Find a long hill or pedal hard with you brake on for about 20 seconds. Let off for ten, and repeat 10-20 times. At our shop I've gotten BB5s to work almost as good as Hopes doing this.
  6. I'm not feeling stranded. Unknown and "newbie" maybe. Good thing everyone doesn't have his email. We may need a U.S. regional section here soon.
  7. 10$ it was an angry uni rider. Or a KK inmate.
  8. Rather sad that a high-school dropout is being hailed as wise. But I'll take it. Even if you have been indoctrinated with superior canadian socialist mind control.
  9. Good to see this still going. Someone earlier was throwing the socialist/fascist/totalitarian talking point around, in regards to our current president. I'd like to comment as best I can. Fascism is characterized in part by authoritarian nationalism, and a corporatist economic system. Socialism on the other hand favors a system of public and worker ownership. These terms are not interchangeable. When you do so it makes you appear very misinformed. There are aspects of corporatist rule in both our current and former administrations. This is due largely to rulings on the 14th amendment granting "person-hood" to corporations. As an unintended result of the 14th amendment to our constitution which granted citizenship to slaves, 288 of the 307 cases brought before the court between 1890-1910 were by corporations seeking more rights, 19 were by african americans. These rulings were largely to blame for the problems with corporate/union influence in the current political system. This is not the doing of Obama. As much as our right wing collective bitches about "Obamacare","death panels" Takin' our guns, and his big black iron fist of FASCISM, you forgot about the last 8 years. The euphemistically named "Patriot Act" originally allowed police to round up guns from registered owners in case of marshall law. Ponder that. Of the nations with the highest quality of life, longest life expectancies, and best health. All have socialized medicine. Terrified your taxes are going to go up to pay for it? Consider your health insurance bill a tax, because it is. As for "Death panels", insurance companies ARE death panels. They decide whether it is cost effective to cancel YOU or not. Remember, this is a for profit business and the shareholders demand returns. Let that comfort you that when you are down with a curable cancer they don't want to pay for. Corporations have rights too. They are defined as "persons" Of the many functions of government, keeping corporations in cheque is a vital one. What's left of our democracy, is to keep the government in cheque, and out of the pocket of big business. It's easy to point fingers at Bush, Pelosi, Obama,Reed, etc. They are all beholden to their masters, some more than others. It's much more difficult to point fingers at an abstract concept, after all most of us only have ten fingers. Big Government Vs. Big Business is not a choice, it's a necessity. One out of balance with the other results in tyranny. Imagine small business and small government, and bigger people. I've been sick for two months with some mysterious condition and have ridden once. I've had too much time too get pissed about healthcare costs, and the people who shall remain un-named. Happy boxing day!!
  10. Grease will not prevent your threads from stripping. It will keep them from seizing. Any grease is fine. If you are doing bearing repacking, however unlikely on a trials bike, Phil Wood waterproof grease is hands down the best, most long lasting stuff ever. Copper is most useful for Ti bolts which like to seize to other metals. To avoid stripping, refrain from using ham hands.
  11. Finally got tired of waiting for OTN to come back up. Came here, click on "OTN hacked" and what do I find...... Politics!!!! Alas! Civil discussions, and in the open. I'm still bummed it's down though. Good luck Matt, and don't stress with the holidays and all that on top of it. Josh Gotta go to work to support all the liberal socialists. Doh... That's me
  12. I would politely disagree. I saw an XTP on its first ride dent a downtube enough to steepen the head angle with a moderate hit. My current ride has a True Temper Platinum OX downtube which has taken numerous hits and only one minor dent. It really depends on the alloy. An echo urban fork with U6 alloy is flexy as all hell but hasn't broken, while most aluminum is rather stiff. Most Aluminum is more stiff than steel but is soft. Titanium is VERY hard but flexy in 3Al/2v form 6Al/4v is more stiff. Fatigue life of aluminum is far less than steel which is nearly infinite provided it was welded propery. However it is far more affordable to make a reasonable weight frame out of aluminum than steel. In the past I broke an aluminum frame once a year I've been riding this for 5 years, Not superlight at 10kg but not bad. internal cabling Ti tensioner Ti non disc side spokes and sexy nipples currently building a 1.6 kg frame with steel that will probably last forever.
  13. 1 stone=14 lbsx12=168lbs. Right on with the flickable vs. rolling ability. I'd like to see 24" bikes have the parts/ tire selections of 20/26 it's the perfect medium. Are you going street or more Natural. If street get a mod or a 24. On buying you can skimp on frame, cranks ,wheels etc. However shell out the coin for brakes and freewheel/ hub. Bad engagement and braking can make 3k feel like poo and make 750 feel not so bad. Money = weight & less is good to a point. Get some heavy DH tires with thick sidewalls first or you will pinch flat all the time until you you can put some butter on it.
  14. Greetings and kisses to the Queen Mother and her subjects. I'd like to share my rocks
  15. Type of hub would help the diagnosis. All cones have neighboring cones which need to be tightened together, paired they won't move. Don't keep wrenching them into the bearings or they will explode. If your axle binds rotates 180 degrees and is loose you bent your axe-hole.
