  1. So, I bought a lovely new BMX the other day a Halfords Indi Fierce, just something for chopping around on

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_890893_langId_-1_categoryId_165765

It's a great bike for a smidge over £50, but there's just one problem - the bloody seatpost will not tighten.

So my question to those that work at Halfords or those in the know is: is this a common problem and one that can be fixed easily or am I better off just accepting it's a cheap bike and shim it myself.

It's a shame, because otherwise it's great, but I'm using it more as a small commuting bike, so need a seat from time-to-time, is it worth the effort to take it back to get fixed/replaced?

  2. Thanks guys, I dug out some pictures of an XC bike I had hired a while back that had a set of Specialized Fast Traks that I remember feeling quite nice. As Jardo had given them a nod too, I went and got myself a pair.

Admittedly, not the best time of the year to trial this sort of thing, but on the road I feel the wheels actually want go round now and the bike feels about 20% quicker. Makes such a change from the Swamp Things I had on there before which were like riding with the brakes on.

I also got myself a set of IRC Kujo DH that were on clearance, they remain (to my mind anyway) the best all round tyre. I'm gonna see how I get on with the Fast Traks, but have the Kujos ready to pop on as and when the need arises.

  3. So after hiring a bike abroad I've realised my XC tyres are killing any momentum I have. I'm kicking myself for remembering what the types were.

So can anyone recommend a set of tyres that roll nicely bit still have grip where needed? Also, I've always run the same type front and rear would I be better running a mix?

  4. Thought self adjustment and washers (also a legal requirement) are only applicable for OEM fittings?

As the driver they are great, I have them on the Civ (OEM). But for everyone else they are a bit of a nuisance. I don't know how the self adjustment works, but everytime I go up a hill, I'm sure I blind everyone else on the other side.

Has anyone else noticed that new Mercedes have THE most ridiculously intense lights, every time I get blinded in the mirror, it ends up being a newish merc.

  5. Does anyone here do a bit of green laning?

I am thinking of getting into it - but it all seems a bit like fight club. Any tips for getting started?

I'm guessing I will also need a change of bike, as the DRZ isn't the lightest, or will a set of off road wheels do the trick?

  6. If it's not too busy park here

alternatively the main car park is here

Not really near the XC trails, they're further through the village. The downhill course is accessed via a fireroad. If you come off the a460 onto stile cop road its near the top of the hill on the right.

  7. If you didn't sign anything, then I don't see what the signed indemnity business is about, unless there was something written into the contract about access when you sold your mate the house in the first place.

The solicitors of the new buyer should have flagged the access to the new buyer issue during the initial searches that are performed, if this has yet to be performed they may pull out, which they can do until contracts are exchanged (or maybe that's what you mean by signing deeds).

The crux of the matter seems to be that your mate needs to man up to his missus, surely if she's the type to stick her oar in about the kitchen roof, she'll kick up a fuss if there's funny business about the access and sees you are responsible.

Surely the best thing all round would be to offer the lane to your birds father, you'll protect your birds long term interest and then can't be to blame if there is an issue with access to your mate's house?

  8. YES. Brilliant game! On computer though. I despise consoles.

Used to agree that PCs were F,T,W, but it pissed me off that everytime a new game came out there would always be *something* that would need upgrading so I could play it at a respectable speed. I now just stick to consoles, plus it's good to chillax on the sofa instead of driving a desk like I do all day anyways. You get pounded an extra tenner, for the 360 version but then I tend to sell a game on after I finish anyway, so don't blow all my load at once.

There's a couple of decent games out recently.

Portal 2 - Great puzzle game, I loved the original, which was a cult classic, bit trippy at times. I've now completed it.

LA Noire - sweetness in a box, love it, in fact, I'm off to play it now...

  9. Hey guys, bumping this topic due to the fact I have finally got my ass in to gear on this one and it's back on my radar.

Basically I need someone who can write various articles on web technologies to help drive traffic for a new site I am developing. It will involve researching XHTML, CSS, PHP, jQuery topics and writing approx 500 words + code snippets and example screenshots for demonstration, so I'm looking for someone with a bit of coding knowledge, good handle on presentation and english and 2-3 hours a week free to write each article.

I have already done some examples of the sort of thing needed, so PM for details.

  10. I know there are a lot of skilled people on these forums, I’m currently on the look out for skilled website developers and graphic designers wanting to earn some hard cash, hence this post.

There are several projects I am working on at the moment, and urgently need skilled people with graphics and coding talents including Photoshop/GIMP, PHP, HTML and CSS. If you think this could be you, please drop me a PM with your experience and let’s get talking...

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Insurance is dodgy at the best of times, I think they should simplify it.

A driver registration scheme would solve all the no cover or licence BS, basically a government run scheme in which each driver would have their own set of plates, an annual renewal fee would be required, third party insurance would be included - similar to the scheme operated in Australia. Done.

Back to the issue, no day insurance readily available for <21, take out a policy and cancel it - possibly, or get it on a lorry.

  12. Yeah, I think it's fecking annoying... in my opinion the only people with dipped lights on during the day should be motorcyclists.

But annoyingly, as with all crappy european things it comming here and daytime lights will be mandatory by 2012, ridiculous.

  13. he he what you after :) I think the GTTDI is the sex :) Or an R32 but good luck for 3-4k

What's so great about the GTTDI? 138bhp, that isn't 'shit off a shovel'. A honda civic 2.2 tdci has similar performance figures and costs about 5k less
