  1. Universally speaking, you are totally correct. Morals are just a human construct, but are a requirement for society to function. What nihilism denies us are our humanistic qualities, fundamental nihilists don’t exist because they’ve all killed themselves once they come to the realisation of their own non-existence. I cast no dispersions on people’s inward perspective on reality, I am an old fashioned dualist in this respect. What is a problem is when this impacts on the way people behave outwardly in society. Could you really rationalise some abhorrent act on a friend or family member if you and/or the perpetrator are nihilists, what hope is there for humanity?
  2. Your own feelings on whether you'd be bothered if someone rode across your/a family members grave don't come into the argument about whether it is right or wrong or not. If it matters to the family of the people whose grave you're riding over then that's the issue, and judging by responses on here, it clearly does matter. A grave is, to many people, a symbolic earthly representation of someone who is no longer of this earth. By appreciating the etymology of expressions such as 'dancing on someone’s grave' you would understand why it is a deeply disrespectful thing to do for this very reason. What angers me more and more in modern society is the increasingly solipsistic existence people are choosing to lead. Some would put this down to the demise of religion, but religion has been the cause of many ills too. I am agnostic, yet believe I live a morally just life, perhaps I am not as charitable as I should be, but I have not slipped into the lowest-common-denominator selfishness that seems so pervasive in an alarming number of people today. Don’t get me wrong, I am not acting out of altruism, I feel good when I feel as though I am being kind, considerate, social, etc. I also believe that if karma does exist it is bestowed on those who do deserve it, and have earned it. I don’t prescribe we should all live like saints, but who benefits from acting like a jerk to others?
  3. wait, let me guess, you emailled him 2 hours ago and he still hasn't responded? It's the weekend, give the guy a chance!

    Lottery

Statistically, you're still worse off than if you put your £1 into a bank, what with compound interest and that. Even though you can get your money back at any time with premium, you only ever get back the money you originally put in if you haven't won anything. Your money is worth less when you take it out than when you put it in, due to the effect of inflation. Premium bonds essentially mean everyones interest is paid in the form of prizes to a few people. But I suppose they're better than the lottery if you're a compulsive gambler.
  5. I love quads, the kids ones are a great laugh, I know you say they haven't got much power, but they're fantastic for messing around on. The advantages with quads is they are alot more stable than a mx bike, but as with anything motorised, the pain is finding somewhere safe to use them. I used to have a LT125, great little quad, but managed to burn out the clutch on it (it was a semi auto). I now have a chineese pit bike, which is way more fun and for the money, is better value than my mtb. I'd love to be able to drop £5k on a banshee, but christ, unless you are racing it, what's the point?
  6. Even though building PCs is easier than ever it doesn't mean it is idiot proof (case in point). How on earth would smearing the thermal paste, and then re-appling it make any difference? The paste transfers heat to the cooler, but the chip hasn't even had a chance to warm up, let alone get to the temperature that would cause the motherboard to cut off. Check all of the leads, something is loose somewhere. Furthurmore, consult the manual, the beeps mean something, and a sequence of beeps could indicate what the root cause of the problem is.

    Is 02 Down?

    No, must be your phone/area
  8. You definitely won't be able to save things you have downloaded from the Live marketplace to an external harddrive, for a similar ammount of cash you might aswell buy a wireless adaptor (or if he is feeling cheap, a cable) and stream music/video from your PC. Thanks to the latest dashboard update, the 360 can now play virtually any type of video and stream music in-game.
  9. There are places selling them sim free where you can avoid all that hassle, but it's alot of money for a phone http://www.software4udirect.com/index.php?...uct_id=38032642

    Iphones

It's £270 for the handset plus the cheapest contract you can get it on is £35/month and a minimum contract length of 18 months and that's before you've made any calls or text... Yes, it's a gorgeous phone, but the Porsche Cayman is a lovely car, doesn't mean it isn't alot of money for a car / phone. Sorry I'm sticking to my V3i and Ford Fiesta
  11. Yeah, it went up by 4p last week.
  12. Don't agree with it at all, I learnt to drive when I way 17 and I think it's just the right age. I hate the way the government is giving less and less responsibility to young adults and still thinks they should be respectful, you only get respect if you show respect. I don't see what was wrong with the system, and if it isn't broke why fix it?
  13. Reptar... wasn't that the dinosaur in the Rugrats

    Iphone Uk

You'll end up paying £1k by the time you take the £270 phone and 18 months at £35 (cheapest option), it's a case of you might aswel get a a kick ass phone for free for £35/month and buy an ipod touch with the £270 quid you saved. Edit: and no 3G, 1999 called- they want their phone back
  15. My advice is books. At A level the courses are very linear, but I think teacher's face an imposible task to get everything they want in 50min lesson. A book can demonstrate a point in a concise manor, re-enforced with examples. I used the Letts series and did well at AS level.
  16. Where's the skill in that? MX, MTB or skateboard yes, but pinning a pedal, anyone could do that.

    Chavs!

**RING ** RING ** Hello? ... Hangon, I'll just get him. Yes, it's 1999 on the phone, they want their thread back. But, yeah, chavs are the underclass that are scarily prevalant. Never judge a book by its cover though, met a guy today who looked a bit hairy... turned out to be sound as, just goes to show.
  18. I'd like to know the source for that. It's the importers and dealers who are making a killing anyway.
  19. BANG GANG VILLAGE, SONGGANG TOWN, SHENZHEN, CHINA If you're writing a letter be careful with that first line!
  20. What happend to buying stuff you can actually afford? Encouraging people to rack up debt is terrible.
  21. I don't understand what the problem is, if they are buying them and them selling them later it's keeping the bike shops in business and creating a bigger second hand market.
  22. Ok, I really want to strip the paint my bike, but last time I did it it went pete tong and looked crap. Ideally I'm after someone who has the skill and experience to do it for me, it may be perfect for someone already stripping their stuff down at the same time. Again, might be good if you live in the midlands so I can drop the frame off and pick it up again. I can pay around 15 quid, but I don't need it done immediately - just sometime in the next few months. If anyones interested let me know, the frame is a kona stinky and it's already in peices ready for action, just needs doing.
  23. or spelling Rich ...but seriously, buy a dictionary.
  24. Simple arithmatic Bebo = lame, Facebook ***.
  25. Firstly, I'm suspicious how much insurance groups actually matter (anything less than 5 really) at a young age, but that's just my consipiracy theory. Get onto http://parkers.co.uk/insurance for a complete list of cars and their groups. I believe the car matters very little (as long as it's nothing more powerful than a group 5 car), why your premium is so high is because 1. You're young 2. You're male 3. You're young and male. The value of the car also has very little impact on the quote and whether it's third party or not also has little impact or not. What the insurance companies are worried about is the nightmare situation where some dude has just past his test, he's bombing it around like he's Hamiliton in his 1.4, looses control, hits a pedestrian, and his mates in the back haven't got their seatbelts on and everyone sues. The insurance company face millions in loss. That's another reason why you should ensure you are fully covered (and not a main driver on a named driver policy).
