  1. Or they could be for people who want to let the turbo cool down before turning the car off? Sometimes its not particularly practical to sit outside for 10 minutes whilst the car is idling. Even whilst the car is on idle the turbo will still be spinning so after coming off a dual carriageway even sitting at low speeds the turbo will still heat up excessively. I dont really feel the need for an additional alarm system. The standard one has immobiliser, central locking, alarm, deadlock and window closing feature so there's not really much else you can gain from an additional system. I guess i asked this question to the wrong people.............
  2. Ah but there is reason to worry about it, it may only be a 406 but i've had quite a lot done to it and the hybrid turbo thats on there has just been re-conditioned so im trying to increase its lifespan. I try taking it easy before the end of my journey but the turbo timer really does help. There seems to be this companion lite thing available that locks the doors etc but doesnt do it until the turbo timer has turned off - now in that time somebody could already be in you car! Useful!
  3. Howdy, errrm i've just gone and fitted my Greddy turbo timer to my beloved 406 and to my surprise everything worked exactly as it should first time. I then realised that i am going to have to lock the doors manually. Now i changed my drivers door a while back and never bothered putting a lock barrel in it because the central locking opens the door just fine and saved me the hassle. So this means that i have to go to the passengers door and lock it with the key. Obviously the timer tricks the car into believing the key is still in the ignition barrel thus the remote locking will not work whilst the turbo timer is keeping the engine running. Is there something i can do so i can get my central locking to work with the turbo timer still running.....? Cheers, Stu.
  4. Dunno if i will be able to make sunday. Im pretty sure im going to be working but if not, then you shall see me. Christ, i didnt realise i opened the topic 2 years ago! Time seems to pass so quick after leaving education etc. Cheers lewis, i've added you to msn. (on a precautious note, try not to put your email address on viewable web pages, cos them ad-bot things will find it and you'll probably end up with even more uselss spam) Cheers, Stu
  5. Hmmmm it was a while ago since i first opened this topic but i've found it again I pretty much have all the videos now (i think) christ it was soooo long ago. Im just after the 10 minute video that i made i think it was called eastcoasttrials film ? If my memory is serving me in the least bit correctly. If somebody happens to have this laying about on hard drive etc i would really really appreciate it and may even give you a big hug, yes thats a big hug from me. You know you cant resist. Cheers, stu
  6. Seeing as im currently with vodafone their 3G option is looking really handy. And looking at the place im going to be staying for the next god knows how long it seems to be fully covered by 3G - Wohay! Just wondering, do i need a 3G phone for this to work or just to be in a 3G area.....? Seems if i just pay the £50 for a USB device and £45 a month for a connection everything will be shweet.
  7. That isnt too expensive for a monthly tarriff to be honest. Im wondering though - is there something which is fully mobile because it's not like im going to have this little satellite dish available with me everywhere i go.
  8. Howdy to all, im looking into getting satellite internet for my laptop so i can enjoy the benefits of being able to use it anywhere i go without the need for wires or modems etc. What i want to know is what sort of laptop do i need to be able to cope with it, what hardware is needed for the connection and where i can get the satellite connection from and roughly what sort of price the connection is per month. Any info as always is appreciated, Stu
  9. Now that does sound quite passable. My cousins coming over tomorrow (he's worked with performance cars all his life) so we are gonna inspect the turbo - i had the turbo checked friday just gone and they told me there is latteral play in the shaft - maybe this has caused the turbine to wobble so much when its at 70,000+ rpm to snap the shaft and completely disintigrate the insides of the turbo...? When the turbo was checked on friday they only had to remove one pipe to have access to the shaft so im thinking if we do the same tomorrow evening then i may well come across a destroyed turbine. I hope it is the turbo to be honest because the garage that charged me for piston rings etc and a head re-condition told me that the turbo was not the cause of the problem. If the turbo is now dead they will be held liable for incorrectly diagnosing the cause for blue smoke on my car and thus will have to sort out my turbo problem free of charge. What a bugger though - just spend £1880 on getting my car sorted out then one month later it has gone and died on me AGAIN! i dont know how much more of this i can take!
  10. Im thinking it would be a lot more than the seals the car is now permanently stuck in a state of lost power. Whatever happened when i spanked it something gave way. Im starting to think i've shattered the turbo....?
  11. Hi there, as some of you may know i own a peugeot 406 sri turbo. Recently had the piston rings and head re-conditioned, new valves, tappetts, seats re-ground, new gasket, skimmed pretty much everything due to blue smoke on idle. After getting the car back i still had blue smoke on idle revs and the only thing that hadnt been replaced or repaired was pretty much the turbo. Over the last week or so when the turbo is about to cut in i've been getting little cuts - kind of mini losses of power then it would clear and be alright again, i thought it might be the plugs or leads so they got changed to no avail. I spanked it a little while ago and it hit a huge amount of cut, i lifted off the accelerator put down again and repeated with just no power left. The engine sounds like its firing on all 4 cylinders properly and the boost is showing positive on my turbo gauge with the dump valve still giving off some noise. The engine isnt running quite as it should be on idle or anywhere throughout the rev range. I do have oil round the turbo pipes and i can see a big spray has come out of the dump valve as its covered my engine bay. I'd like to know what you guys think....? (besides the buy a new car theory)
  12. Right well as some of you know i have a peugeot 406 sri turbo. A while back i started getting huge amounts of blue smoke coming out of my exhaust on idle. Now it wasnt miss firing, making any strange noises or anything but i decided to get it checked out. In the car went to the garage, they did some other repairs and service stuff i asked them to do but the main reason for the car going into the garage was to get this blue smoke issue sorted. I had the head pretty much re-conditioned, new valve seals, tappets, springs, valves and seats ground, shimmed head skimmed new gasket and seal set and head bolts. They also took the pistons out and cleaned them all up put new main dealer rings on and re-homed the bores. It was an expensive job to get done but at the end of the day i do love my car and if i could spend 2 grand on getting everything sorted and the car lasts me perhaps 3 - 4 years i'd see that as a perfectly good investment. The final bill come to £1880.20 Upon getting my car i was told naturally to take it easy etc cos of the new rings so i have been but im now nearly 2 grand down and had to wait for 2 days under 6 weeks for all this work to be done and guess what, i've still got blue smoke coming from the exhaust - infact i swear its worse than before it went into the garage. So im wondering where do i stand with all this....? As a customer i've paid for a job to be done and a problem to be fixed which hasnt. Granted they did the work but they still havent actually fixed the problem. As far as im concerned its their job as a professional garage to be able to identify the exact cause of the problem and fix it accordingly. They do know about this smoke and im going to see them on tuesday with my car but i know they arent going to be willing to accept reponsibility over this. Im sure legally i must be entitled to something being done about this...? I mean afterall, its not like i have 2 grand to just waste. Any advice over this situation would be as ever appreciated. Stu
  13. See that sort of thing i can totally understand but it only takes a minute to write that in reply to an email i sent him, then at least i know what is going on.
  14. I placed an order through heatsinkbikes.com on 20/12/06 for a pair of Magura 4-bolt to V-brake adapters at £29.00GBP. I have sent Steve 2 emails asking where my item is because its been well over 2 weeks now. I wouldnt mind so much if i had a reply that said something like im busy but you will receive them at such a date. Now as a respected member of this forum i thought his service would be a little better but im pretty damn annoyed about all this, he has taken payment for which i have a receipt for from paypal but i still have not had the goods. Please can someone or Steve himself give me some information on what to do.....? Stu
  15. Yeah i have to bloody work :@ It's starting to annoy me having to work when i could be out doing things like this but hey i guess im at that point in life where funds are neccessary which means having a job Problem is i took two days off work last week to make it an extra long christmas break for me and to take off friday would be a piss take and a half. I'll have to see if i can do something extra spectacular at work to earn myself friday off.......? Unlikely though, Stu
  16. And i still think this is the best one i have yet seen. http://www.ukfakeid.com/
  17. My winning combination is as follows, available for £3.50 from the local cafe. Bacon, sausage, egg, cheese, mushroom, hash brown all wrapped in a fresh baguette. Oh damn thats an unhealthy combination but its soooooo tasty.
  18. Anyyyyyways, back to the subject. Im not really going to be able to do what i was hoping. I guess the other option i have is putting a mahoosive 92mm turbo on there and modifiying the bulk head to take it, that way it would wind up about 3,500 revs instead
  19. I know the fuel is mainly because i spank it but i do actually drive sensibly, there is always a time and place for opening a car up and rural 30mph zones is certainly not the place for it. The turbo cuts in at just under 2,000 revs and idling at 1,000 means i have you guessed it 1,000 revs to play with through change of gear. Even if i accelerate proper slow and the car is warm at 1,800 revs the dump valve will still make noise. Christ! im normally just about rolling by the time i get into 2nd gear on a casual pullaway. 3rd gear about 18mph 5th gear by 30mph
  20. Evening to all, i have a 406 sri turbo as some of you may of seen on here. Anyways i've noticed how crap my fuel consumption is and was wondering about getting a boost controller. Im thinking if i can turn the boost pressure to 1psi or 0psi then im going to save loads of fuel for when i feel like driving normally. Will this cause any problems though....? After putting my car above 11 - 12psi of boost i get turbo cut and havent tested it at the bottom end of the scale yet. As always any help appreciated, Stu
  21. As if you got to drive the continental, my boss had one of these but he would never let me drive it, it sounds proper meaty when your behind it and it starts up, oooooooo. Although he let me drive the Range Rover........ doesnt make much sense
  22. I really have no idea whats going on at all, i've got internet coming through on the main pc, fast, reliable, everything. Its just that the laptop isnt even seeing a wireless signal. I click the icon in the taskbar, the box comes up, i click "refresh network list" and nothing comes up...........
  23. Well below is listed the cars i have driven and you have to bear in mind im 18 so i've only been driving just over a year...... Honda Civic 1.3 DX - Pile of crap, felt horrible, looked horrible but does about 70 in 2nd gear - pretty fast for the engine size. Renault Megane Coupé 1.6 - My first car, absolutely lovely piece of engineering, i wish it never got crashed into by a blind driver (he wasnt actually blind though) Mercedes S500 5 litre V8 - what an absolute beauty to drive, big, heavy, luxurious and pimped with electronics, not to mention the incredible roar and speed that comes from it, i got this car to 155mph Mercedes SLK320 - really nice car to drive, convertible as well plus it was summer - driving down the road with a big grin on my face purely because i was driving a merc and as a result, 1 big nail in the tyre. The boss wasnt too chuffed about that. Range Rover Supercharged Sport - Scary piece of kit, like the controls of a fork lift with bare power. Its scary throwing these into corners because of the shear height but it really can handle nicely. (Mums car) Renault megane convertible '01 plate - i hate it! just pure crap, its noisy as hell, understeers into corners and is pretty slow for a 1.6 16v, the only good point, errrm sharp brakes. Mitsubishi Colt - the brand new '06 model - its a pure grandad / disabled persons car. Really nice and comfortable to drive but damaging on street credit. This was a hire car from when my megane got smashed into. I went to a rave, came back to sleep then the rear window got smashed whilst i was asleep. I phoned the company, told them, then they brought me a new car, below: Renault Megane 1.9DCI - I really did love this car, i had it for about 5 weeks, it was a brand new '06 plate, turbo diesel with 6 speed box and what can i say, it really is a pleasure to drive, so comfortable and easy going yet when you stick you foot down in any gear it pulls with a lot of torque. Peugeot 406 Sri Turbo - My current car, the white beauty been seen on here by some members, its back in action and i absolutely love it, it does feel somewhat like a racing car rather than comfortable but thats just the way i like it - fast! I have driven other peoples cars inbetween but thats nothing worth mentioning really, so i believe thats about it. Stu
  24. Howdy all, using a wireless modem router to create a wireless network between the main pc and my laptop. I put the adsl line into the router and an ethernet cable from the router to the network card of the main pc and voila i have an internet connection. However the laptop (built in wireless) cant find a wireless network at all. Would this be because i've used an ethernet cable to directly link the modem to the main pc.....? Any other suggestions or help would be muchly appreciated as always. Stu
