You are in a topic specifically on this subject though :P

So, who else is looking forward to total lockdown?

Had enough of people winding me up not social distancing yesterday (that 2nd Sky news video wasn't there when I posted). Next time I'm taking a stick with me to prod people if they approach me or my family within 2m. One of our neighbours died the day before from CV-19.

  2. I'm running Zee on my Console, stock pads and Magura rotors. I think they could be better but I haven't tried different pads yet or non-Magura rotors with them. Not sure if changing the rotors would make much difference.

I've seen other threads on here recommending EBC pads (red or gold?) (can get them for Zee on trialsaddict.com).

  3. Not sure what this move is called, but the attached image illustrates. The 'a' images show bike position before the move, 'b' shows position after the move. The move is static, not from rolling.

So I can do versions 1 & 2 from rolling, but not 3, but I'm more interested in tips for performing these moves from a static position. Every so often I attempt version 2 but it always seems like my efforts are way off, lots of exertion to barely even make it happen. I don't usually do version 1 static, but it just happened that way the other day, and discovered it wasn't a one off, and it wasn't until then this clicked together as 3 versions of the same thing.

So with the 1st, easiest version, I believe I'm using a pivoting of the bike and myself to assist bringing the rear wheel up onto the obstacle previously occupied by the front wheel. But with the 2nd version pivoting isn't going to help that much, and definitely won't on the 3rd version.

Maybe I can almost picture it... Lean forward, jump up, tall, arms pull bike with me? Or is it more, lean forward, crouched, push arms bike forward?

Do you have any tips or cues for what I need to be doing?

  4. From what I understand outdoor exercise is encouraged* provided it's away from other people. We're on holiday in Wales at the moment and visited botanical gardens - open because of the wide spaces allowing people to distance themselves. It might change on s he days time but until it does I'll still be out on my bikes... Might take the option to work from home too so could swap the cycle commutes for trials practice so win win... kinda. *encouraged might be too strong a word.

  5. Feeling pretty lucky. Was driving to my second spot this afternoon and wondering why the car behind kept flashing me. Ignored them for a while mistaken identity or something. Then noticed this shape in their window, looked pretty similar to my bike wheels, ha! Oh. I remember seeing someone pull out at the same time I did. He must have seen my front wheel, stopped, got out picked it up, and then come after me. Good job I decided not to speed through the long pointless 30 bit as I wasn't familiar driving through that area. Thanked him lots after he handed my front wheel back!

    1. Regardless of any Old English, Celtic or Latin translation, calling it CANT TRIALS makes it sound like all the members are shit at riding.

Well I am shit so...:P ...Can I sell you on the ironic angle?

Eventually I've come up with this: T.R.I.K. Trials Riders in Kent.

  7. Yep the LifeLine X-Tools BB Tool 8 Prong fits nicely. Cleaned it up and refitted to cranks. Reasonably confident it should be ok. Just going to clean the rest up and refit until I sort out replacement chain, chainring, rear-cog.

I'm trying to find a replacement chainring, preferably steel for durability, but not sure what BCD is needed.  Activesport.co list it as 94mm whereas CRC (unavailable) list it as 104mm, but then the Middleburn 22t 5arm chainring is listed as 58mm.

  8. Sorry, lots of questions! Been using HTII cranks for years...

Got a square taper Middleburn crankset with the pro trials bashguard and replaceable 22t chainring. The cranks show scars from my crap riding but otherwise fine but bb, bashring & chainring all need replacing.

Just wondering what the options for replacing the Pro Trials Bashring are? It's loose on the crank. Didn't want to get too spendy if possible. Is the fitting "type-x"?

And if the above, any recommended 5 bolt 22t chainrings recommended?

Otherwise, are there any other bashring/chainring options to fit on the Middleburn cranks?

It has a VP BB (68x127.5) at the moment, with the metal thread sleeves rather than the lighterweight plastic-like ones, can't seem to find it available now (VP 80 iirc). Will probably stick with it for now but in future, are the Shimano square taper BBs (with hollow axle) decent enough for trials (thought I remember thinking they were quite flexy before replacing them on a new bike)?

    Cheers

  9. Just played around with a logo for 'Cant trials'. Then decided to look to see if there was already a FB group for us... There's South-East Trials Riders seems a bit dead though. Doesn't stop us creating a fresh one though.

Yeah up for a meet on Sun Feb 9th, would be cool. Ramsgate is pretty good for trials I think, I don't know if it's better than Herne Bay as haven't ridden the Bay.

  10. I'm not really convinced by it. Reading Reddit, it sounds like people are expecting to close their eyes and to be able to see stuff in front of their eyes (maybe they should do acid). There's a red star test. Like most of the commentors I see nothing. But I've zero motivation to see a red star. It serves no purpose. I can't just conjure stuff up just on a whim. I read that pro downhillers visualize their lines down the run, I can't imagine doing that. There again I just got some glimpses of one of the tracks I regularly ride between fields on the way home from work. On a cool but sunny day in Spring. On a rigid mtb. Letting it move beneath me weight through my feet. Bdmpbdmpbdmp. I used to do a lot of painting and drawing, and never had a finished image in mind which I sought to reproduce. It was always something built up out of semi random intentions until something started to emerge. Probably a metaphor for life. Never saw myself anywhere in 5 years time. Can't visualize positive things. Yada yada.

  11. Wondered about a Facebook group too... Calling it the obvious Kent Trials would easily get us confused with Kent Trails. So obviously let's look at the Etymology of the name Kent:

"The name Kent is believed to be of British Celtic origin and was known in Old English as Cent, Cent lond, Centrice (all pronounced with a 'hard C' as 'Kent-'). In Latin sources Kent is mentioned as Cantia, Canticum. The meaning is explained by some researchers as 'coastal district,' or 'corner-land, land on the edge' (compare Welsh cant 'bordering of a circle, tire, edge,' Breton cant 'circle')."

So my vote is for Cant Trials.
