  1. Hi TF. Wondering if anyone can help with this puzzle…

My i9 hydras are currently the following configuration:

    - Rear, 135 bolt in

    - Front, 110 15mm through axle

I want to run them on my new frame and fork which has the following configuration:

    - Rear, 135 12mm through axle

    - Front 110 20mm through axle

Hoping someone know what axle / end caps I need to order!

To add to the complexity I have Pro 4s in the correct config, unsure if I can steal the end caps / axles from them?!

Be careful, they wrote "30% pressure increase". That does not imply 30% power increase (I guess the brake power increased though).

Do the Hope brake pads have play within the trial caliper?

I think the current brakes are powerful enough, the problem remaining is more the exposure of the rotor and the play on a 26" bike.

    Good point!

I run tech 3 E4s on my 26” trials bike. Bit of tape on the pad backings and there’s no pad rock. The power is plenty as you say, I’m yet to have a single brake slip, and that’s with a 180 rear.

On the trips away I've taken the bike I've always had in the bike bag -

    Bike

    Tools

    Helmet

    Spares (tubes, chain & rotor)

    Riding shoes

Without any questions. As long as it's below the weight limit & not all too sketchy (if you're taking a cardboard box).  I can't really see taking the time to be awkward about it.

Regards to Barcelona, you'll find loads of spots and it's quite fun just heading out different directions each day and searching.

If you hop on the train to Sabadell there's a really good (free) trials park here & it's also worth messaging Trial Evolution and arranging them to pick you/drop you back for a morning or afternoon at their park. We went on street trial bikes and loved both parks.

    That's solid advice. Appreciate it!

Exactly the thoughts I had around packing, I've sorted a couple of bike bags so going to put spares / lid / shoes and whatnot in there.

Didn't realise there is a pick up option for that park, did you find them on facebook?

  4. Purchased a brand new TT sport lite bb back in December. It’s probably seen around 8 hours of pedal time and tonight the driveside bearing died a rather scary and loud death.

Anyone else had the same issue with these? Very carefully installed etc, everything kept nipped up.

Going to see if there’s any chance of warranty with tarty tomorrow but being a bearing I’m not holding my breath

  5. Hi TF,

So myself and a buddy have booked some flights to barca for the end of April. I have a few questions to locals / people who've ridden there previously:

    - Any particular district you'd recommend staying in?

    - We're planning to stick to street only. Can you get on the metro with a bike?

    - How did you go about taking tools etc with you? I was thinking to chuck some basics in with the bike in the box, along with my helmet. But easyjet specify only the bike should be within the box.

    - Spots wise I'm guessing we'll have no trouble finding bits. But if there's any must see please do let me know a location.

    Cheers!

Okay on to the important stuff: why has he got inner tube wrapped around the rear hub? It's not like a chainstay that gets slapped by the chain repeatedly.

I assumed he’s running a prototype of some sort?

  7. How he can ride that head angle is beyond belief. The bike must feel so strange.

I wonder if he already had the frame / bike for another discipline, and then figured out it worked well. At 1k a frame it's an expensive experiment if not!

  8. Looking for spoke recommendations for a lightweight but strong wheel.

Any pointers? I usually just order the sapim spokes from tarty but seeing as the rims and hubs are pretty pimpin would like to explore other options too

  9. I did a self conversion on a scabby 16 year old white SWB T5 during the first lockdown. Absolutely loved the process and loved the van. Had some great trips in it around the UK and planned further afield but decided to let it go whilst camper prices were at an all time high.

Really miss this thing, but personally I want a MWB hi top next. The lack of head height (I couldn’t justify the 3k pop top cost on top of the rest of the mods). +1 for the sideways bed though. I made the centre of the worktop at the back removable so I could transport my motorbike in the middle.

Another tip... do all the bolts up until they are about a quarter of a turn from being seated, then grab the rotor by the arms and twist it anti clockwise (assuming the rotor is facing towards you!).

You'll find there is a bit of slop when doing this - by pre-rotating it means the rotor is hard up against the shaft of the bolt, and therefore better supported. If you just tighten them down any old way, its just the friction between the underside of the head that holds it in place.

Hope that makes sense and helps...

That’s actually a quality tip. Nice one :smartass:

A bit more torque (above the recommendation - I go on feel so can't give a value, sorry!) usually does the trick for me. Blue (medium) loctite can help a bit. Don't use red!

I’ve been going down that route however I actually snapped my t25 bit so I was certainly getting the torque there.

I think the issue stems from using titanium bolts, coupled with being pretty weighty although I’d say I’m pretty smooth (if I do say so myself).

I’ll try the blue stuff, glad you’ve said that as I have some in the shed but no red.
