  1. Some sexy rusty holes for you guys: Under the front of the cab: Out back under the engine: NS outer sill is gone but inner sill is surprisingly solid: Most of the underneath is like this, just surface scabs: Infact it's not all bad under there, a quick blitz with a wire wheel, some rust inhibitor, redo some seam sealant and then a nice coating of stone chip paint will have it all looking fresh and staying crumble free for a bit longer. Rear arch came out, still got a few spot welds to remove but it should be ready for a few small patches and the fresh one to go in soon: Front NS step is in, the panel was awful and I thought I had it all lined up but it just wasn't the same dimensions as the original so I had to hack it about rather a lot! I'll dress it up and get it painted tomorrow.
  2. Sweet, as I thought then! To be honest nearly everything has to be welded anyway so I probably won't be able to leave much!
  3. I've given my Astra to my girlfriend as she's doing 60miles a day and I wasn't happy about her doing it in her KA. This leaves me with just the Porsche which isn't a problem apart from when I need to shift larger items. I still have my T25 and so I got it out of the shed it's been stuffed into and it started a treat the clutch slave is knackered but a quick bleed made it useable enough for moving the old thing. I pressure washed it and also got it on the ramps to clean underneath. It isn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated which is a huge relief! I have some of the panels already but need to order a few more. The rest of it seems in reasonable condition, so I will get enough done to get it roadworthy and do jobs as and when they need to be done. Due to it being sat for a good 10 years in total (just moved every so often) there are obviously a few things I need to do to ensure the engine and gearbox are happy. So far I have the following: Change the oil and all the filters, I'll leave things like plugs until it's on the road as they seem ok currently. Is it a good idea to replace the oil again after a few miles seeing as it has sat for a bit? I'm not sure if that may cause any sludge build up Flush the radiator with cleaner and replace coolant (I have a new waterpump to fit too) Replace the slave cylinder and then bleed clutch and brakes with fresh oil. Is there anything else I have missed? I guess replacing the gearbox oil might be a good plan before it is on the road too, I'll also go over the typical mechanical parts that need to be checked for MOT. Also regarding rust and MOTs. I want to make sure it is safe before I go on the road, so i'll attack anything structural of course. There are several body panels that are either VERY rusty or have jaggered edges but are not detrimental to the safety of the truck. If I get desperate to get it on the road before these are done, can they simply be covered with gaffa tape like the PO did? That way I don't need to rush sorting those areas unnecessarily.
  4. Yeah I have some flush stuff here, fortunately most of it seems to have fallen out of the radiator holes along with the coolant!
  5. Just bought a secondhand radiator for £45 and some more coolant, this one ain't sealing! Not worse the hassle
  6. I've sorted 1 tube, but can't find the hole behind... I've whacked in 2 bottles of rad seal stuff (I know, don't lecture me!) and it's slowed massively. I took it for a drive and it was spot on, but it's so cool that the thermostat seems to rarely be kicking in! If I leave it ticking over it leaks slowly, so I'll keep it running and keep monitoring it. I'm hoping I can find a secondhand radiator to tide me by til it gets warmer and then I'll get this one refurbished and keep the secondhand one as a spare!
  7. Aren't they copper? I could try and solder it but I've never actually tried doing gas soldering before! I'm use the lazy push fit stuff when I do plumbing I'm assuming that one of the little copper tubes has pierced, therefore I can either try and patch it with JB epoxy or some LSX silicone (used for sealing holes in water systems) or cut it, bend each end and crimp to seal it. This obviously means losing some cooling ability but it is winter and the rest of the radiator is basically new so should be able to cope perfectly well compared to an older potentially clogged radiator, I can then source a replacement when funds allow or one comes up cheaply enough!
  8. I have some epoxy JB weld stuff that worked well sealing a cracked oil filled steering box on my little tractor so I may get away with it on this. I guess it can't hurt to try, if I add some stop leak stuff as well it might just hold until I find a good replacement! Oh the joys of car ownership...
  9. My Porsche failed its MOT, but I soon corrected the problems and it passed, super! Driving home feeling chuffed and a pheasant runs in front of me, smashes the radiator grille which pierces my refurbished radiator (£180 off quid IIRC). Now it's weeing coolant from a small hole Is there anything I can do to stop the leak? I really can't afford a new radiator right now. I'm not sure if a stop leak product would be able to do it on its own, could I wedge some epoxy in there? Or is that too bodgetastic...
  10. Turns out two followers had fallen apart in my 924 but fortunately all the bits were retrieved and a 924 club member sorted me with replacement ones along with another camshaft as mine was flattened in places. It all went together well, I set up the valve clearances and it seems better than ever. It is now sitting at the local garage awaiting its MOT, fingers crossed it passes...
  11. It's a follower, I have a secondhand one and camshaft coming Friday so hopefully I can still get it MOT'd. Apparently they can just break, I found all the pieces and removed them, it runs perfectly now weird car
  12. 3rd cam lobe is flattened at the tip so is it not a cam follower?
  13. Really? How would it get up there?
  14. Really? How would it get up there?
  15. I finally got round to having a look at my Porsche (924), it has been off the road since the summer as it suddenly lost power and wouldn't run properly. A quick twizzle of the distributor got it running but it once timed properly it wouldn't start again. I thought it was perhaps the timing belt that had slipped so I replaced it and made sure the timing was correct but I still had the same problem ton start it. I got it running today and noticed a ticking noise that got louder and louder so i whipped off the rocker cover to find these bits of metal that look like they were once useful.... Here they are: And the mirror points to where I found them: What has actually broken? I can't see where they came from. What will I need to do to fix it? The MOT was supposed to be Friday but it doesn't look likely that I'll be making that...
  16. I got fed up with my Porsche leaking and puddles forming after replacing all the seals so I just drilled a hole in the floor, sorted
  17. I'be never seen a tow bar like that, looks flimsy! Nice work on the tarting up though
  18. I managed to a car in my workshop for the first time in a long time, I've nearly finished tidying and organising it now so hopefully the Porsche can move in and get some love! It has been sitting outside in the mud since it broke down in September, I now need to fix it, sort some niggles, get an MOT on it and then make an actual decision as to what i'm going to do about the engine situation.
  19. And nicely added on page 924!
  20. C'mon Robin, you can't just say that and not give us a hint as to what your plans are! Mines getting tucked into my workshop soon for some TLC
  21. I wondered where you had gone, that cars a beast so I'm glad you are giving it some attention. I had a metal rack made out of scrap gates that I built years ago, time hasn't been kind to it and it's weirdly thought out in construction so I have modified it a bit this evening so that it can take different sized off cuts. It will go on wheels and have some dividers so that the different types of metals can be separated, I will also add some tubes for thinner stuff like threaded rod. Hopefully this will mean I can keep my off cuts out of the way as before they consumed a whole wall It's quite wonky in places as the old rack wasn't particularly straight so i just had to go with it!
  22. Surely that thing can't have passed a recent MOT...
  23. I haven't used my Astra is a few months now and don't really anticipate needing it anymore as I rarely need to drive anywhere (I work from home) and I still have the Porsche to use as well as my parents cars for long journeys. I may as well sell it but i'm not really sure about the best way, presumably Gumtree is a good start as it's a cheap car (£1200-1500 I'm thinking), is there anywhere else I should advertise it? eBay is a touch expensive but good advertising, autotrader also costs and I never seem to find anything decent on there!
  24. I have 2 MIG welders but currently no TIG I have an inverter welder which I may be able to use as a TIG? Some seem capable but i'll have to check!
  25. More than welcome, that's all I end up doing anyway
