  1. Trying to follow the crowds/rampers on discussion boards isn't a good idea in my experience, and everyone was ramping RRL so I didn't even look at it!

I agree with that, but the boards can be good for people summarising news reports and doing calculations for revenue/profit which is really useful. Best way is to buy and hold on fundamentals and not get nervous but yeah, easier said than done!

dann, the mimimum you want to invest in a individual stock is about £1k really - you get charged a fee for every transaction (buy or sell) that you make so you don't want to lose too much profit from that. Funds though, you can invest like £100 as you get charged a percentage instead of a fixed £ amount.

  2. That website is really good. Some more useful ones:

http://www.fool.co.uk/ - Really good articles and guides, and they have a good easy-listening podcast aswell

http://www.fool.co.uk/Investing/guides/The-Difference-Between-Saving-And-Investing.aspx?source=uhpsitts0000001 - Good guide from the same website

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/ - Yahoo finance, good for tracking FTSE and for news

http://www.advfn.com/ - When you start researching companies, the bulletin boards on here can be useful

If you want to ease into it with less risk, you can buy funds, the place I use for that (in an ISA) is:

    https://www.fidelity.co.uk/

And I use TD Waterhouse for trading -

    The book that i have:

    Enjoy!

  3. Nice one tom, some more small caps I can take a look at. I'm also looking at GKP at the moment and missed a huge opportunity at RRL, was thinking of buying at 5p, now around 20p  .

dann, I'd recommend getting a good book if you want to try it, I bought one on the basics of investing from the financial times and its been really helpful. If you want any advice on it then feel free to ask although i'm still only a newbie!

  4. Also I think you can check pass rates for driving tests in different areas, so you could book a test there and give yourself an advantage. Then again its better to take the test where you've practiced the most and where you prefer. You can be in the queue for a test for a long time so book it early.

  5. If you've driven 50 hours already, you should be ready to go. Just get a 2 hour lesson from an instructor and then get the test booked?

For my test, I had a 1 hour lesson beforehand (so booked my instructors car for 2 hours total). Was really useful and calmed my nerves a bit.

  6. My main bike is an echo control but if I like 24" then i'll stick with it and ride it more. I bought it so I have something fresh in trials to do around my local area. Brakeless... not sure i'd enjoy it, or be patient enough to learn to do it! I'll try brakeless next time i'm riding though and see how it goes.

  7. Cheers for your help guys.

I don't have disc mounts on the frame or forks so can't have disc just yet. I'm hoping to not spend too much so I can see whether I enjoy 24" as much. I'm thinking i'll try the heatsink yellows on the rear magura, and get an SD7 up front. I'm after a quiet bike really and don't mind having worse hold because of it, I think i'll get used to it and it will hopefully make me a smoother rider. I tend to rely on my brake a lot at the moment and it can make me look a bit sketchy. The rim is smooth, its painted black but most of the paint has come off from using rim brakes.

The evo mounts are a problem though, at the moment the magura is set up fine but I may have problems if I get wider pads such as heatsink? Not sure I can be bothered with the hassle so might be worth going V front and back!

Anyone used goodridge hosing with a water bleed? Think i'll move the brake over to my 26" as long as I can use water in it. (are '05 levers better than '04 or is it personal preference?)

  8. Hellooooooo,

I just bought myself a second hand 24" street bike. I usually ride 'pure' trials on my echo control 26" but I want to try out some flowy streety moves, you know the score.

So anyway, I don't want a bitey, loud brake like the one on my 26" - magura + heatsink pads on a grind. But i do want a reliable brake with good hold (doesn't need to be amazing). The bike has maguras front and back at the moment with koolstop/black pads and the hold isnt too good.

Thinking of going V front and back with some decent pads for a smooth rim. SD7's or ultimates if I can find some. The bike has V-brake lugs front and back and no disc mounts. Or are there any good magura pads for a smooth rim?

Also...has anyone bled an '05 magura with goodridge hosing, with water? Any problems with leaking etc.?

    Cheers.

    Noori

  9. I'm 23 and I just started again after over 3 years of not riding. Massively regret quitting now but riding better than I was before! Get back on it mate :)

  10. Awesome vid flipp! Editing was really good and riding good as usual from you and J-L! Made those gaps look easy. See you when i'm back in Looga

  11. Do you have a direct debit set up with your bank to pay paypal automatically? When I login to my bank account online I can see the paypal direct debit and can cancel it if I want to - could do that? If not I would suggest phoning your bank and stopping it though.

Surely it's paypals responsibility though? Their security obviously hasnt worked and so they should be able to stop the payment. Can they tell you anything about the transaction? (where the money is going?)

I've had problems with paypal freezing my account for no reason but apart from that no issues for me. I try to avoid using them though...

    Best of luck mate

edit: just realised its you josh! come down south for a ride :D

What JT! put earlier is quite possible for how they got your details - i've seen some pretty impressive phishing emails going around. They look exactly the same as the ones from ebay, and are from '@ebey.co.uk' or similar. Make sure you don't use any links in emails and just add ebay, paypal, banks etc to bookmarks instead.

  12. Ah they really are awesome! My dad (from Iraq) used them when I was younger and I actually forgot what they were called. Will have to buy some!

I (and Muhammad..) recommend a Miswak:

    miswak.jpg

It's a tree root, from which the outer layer peels off, and a bristly centre remains to brush with. Not only are they cheap, they kick ass at oral hygiene. I've been using them for several months now, and my dentist was amazed at the results of this 'magic stick'.

Apparently using them improves your memory, and gives you the pleasure of Allah!

  13. You can pull each piston out using pliers (gently) then clean and oil them. Also a good idea to flush the bleed through a few times. I much prefer a water bleed and haven't had any problems with the same water bled brakes over the 5 years I've had it, so recommend doing that too.

By pull pistons out, I mean slightly, don't yank them completely out! :)
