Seriously boss, don't do the LA gangsta look - save that for the Nova boys Modding a VW is all about the less is more approach. Have a look on Cleaned.be for inspiration and then do something different from all the Mcdonalds crowd Best bet is to go for the OEM+ look - whereby you use parts from other vw/audi models and maybe just improve whats there rather than go silly with fibreglass and the like. Don't do window tints, or if you do, go for a light smoke one rather than a ghetto limo tint. Otherwise it just looks shit when you have to leave the front screen clear. Wheels - get some Ronal turbos if you're rich, or try some other model wheels. Audi rims don't suit the Mk2 in my opinion, get some old school BBS's or Brocks. Porsche rims work well and can be quite cheap as well. Oh, and if you fill it with speakers it'll weigh a ton and ruin whatever performance you had before. Mk2's are all about handling - no bigger than 15 inch rims and a 30mm drop. I've had every series of Golf, I've still got a Mk2 valver track car and sold my Mk3 colour concept at the weekend for an Audi 1.8t just in case you wonder if I know what I'm on about. ClubGTI is also well worth having a look at. Or go for the rat look

It sounds to me like you 'hate' a lot of things, or is it just angst? I wouldn't place the UK above the US - christ, we're just as contrived as the yanks.

What a nasty little individual you are. Your argument has no reason, your insulting and your ill-informed. Why would I want to know who you are or what you do? My statement was about the States in general. Not 'AndrewT in the states is a twat' or anything else. Learn how to a) reason without personal attack and b ) communicate and I'm sure it'll make you a much better person all round. I wish you every success in the future. My point - the United States of America is a place that, IN MY OPINION, isn't worth pissing on if it were on fire. And AndrewT is a twat :snigger:

News to me - when did he do this then?

17 - I wish South Carolina for 8 years and recently returned from Boston on a months work placement. I know plenty about your country (my dads American) and I'm duel citizenship. I don't know shit? Have I witnessed the wastage that goes on in 'your country' with regards to energy, food and resources. Have I noticed 'Your country's' actions on foreign policy as reported through 'Your own press'? Er, yes, yes I have. Should I go on? There's only one person rising to the bait my man and thats you. Your post is a mass of contradictions. You post saying how nothing you've put is serious, then defend your country stating that I 'don't know shit'? Argue all you like. No doubt shocking but over here we are entitled to our opinion. I'll stick to mine thanks and you can have yours. Don't know how the internet works? Part of my job involves zero footprint reporting in a web environment. That said I'm always willing to learn Maybe if you didn't immediately launch an attack (*avoids obvious joke*) people wouldn't question you. I'd say you have some 'issues' little buddy that you need to deal with. Maybe operate a D-fence strategy as oppose to O-fence?

I'm going to go against the grain and say the 05/06 ones, mainly because I like the feel and I seem to get a bit more modulation with the newer ones

Not quite as Artistic but very funny Banksy

BINGO Mr Bush I'm assuming this was typed with a sense of irony? Otherwise have you thought that although you might be dead, your children might not? A good example (ironic or not) of the typical american attitude of 'it won't affect me so why should I bother'. This can also be listed under 'It might affect me but I know my rights and I don't have to do anything you idiots tell me' and also 'It will affect me and my kids but I'm too stupid to do something about it'. America blows full stop. I've lived in both and without question America and for the most part, Americans, are ignorant and greedy. Theres no humour intended in this post by the way, its all my opinion. Which of course you're entitled to in America as long as you don't say anything that might provoke thought. Or rational behaviour. Or a reflection on moral values and decency

For a start it needs to be someone who rides a 'proper bike' Seriously, I don't think a 20 inch rider will ever replace the Martins, mainly because Joe public cannot associate with them. After all, bike companies like Crack n fail, Giant and Mongoose are more concerned about selling the public low end bikes in big numbers, rather than niche market models to a smaller number of specialist riders. Whoever takes the mantle will need to represent cycling as a whole, ride a bike that Mr Average can associate with and get his/her face in as many mags and TV shows as possible. For the majority of their careers, both of them have ridden 'normal' looking bikes, unlike now with long, silver frames with no seat and the like, most trials bikes look nothing like a normal mountain bike IMO whoever does it needs to get in with the magazine and TV people and also be synonomous with a big bike brand that can provide funding to get them into the limelight. A good example is Gee Atherton, Giant and the result being a spot on Top Gear

Try something a bit different RJD2 DJ Yoda Prefuse 73 DJ Shadow Kings of Convenience Sebastian Tellio I have them playin on my MP3

I'm not going to just 'accept' something that I don't agree with. Its a sound question that in theory has a point. Whether it works in practise or not is to be decided. You have to try things to progress young jedi

I've used both on my dh and xc bikes and I've always found the sealing on ISIS to be a problem. Could just be me though

know what you mean. I'm going to conduct an experiement tonight on an old hayes brake I've got in the garage - I'll return with my findings (hopefuly, unless grinded discs really don't work)
-
and I'm an IT consultant... 'Also there is a good reason why every car disc is smooth' Yes there is - to allow uniform braking surface at speed to a) prevent judder and b )reduce friction by a certain degree to prevent fade. This isn't a consideration on a trials bike - if it were then water bleeds wouldn't work on maggies because of the heat
-
Sorry, still not sure I agree There are two types of friction acting between disc and pad a)Abrasive friction - brakes with this charateristic have a high wear rate and operate at a low('ish) temp and would be the result of a 'rough surface' b)Adherent friction - where some of the pad material diffuses across the interface between the pad and the disc and forms a very thin, uniform layer of pad material on the surface of the disc. As the friction surfaces of both disc and pad then comprise basically the same material, material can now cross the interface in both directions and the bonds break and reform. More common on a smooth surface where the depositing of brake pad material is consistant, thus preventing judder when the brake is applied or in otherwords a) for low speed (cooler) applications with a high wear rate b ) for high speed applications with a longer wear rate In terms of a bicycle disc brake we're referring to both of the above, especially as theres no such thing as pure adherent or pure abrasive friction. Ideally you want one greater than the other depending on the application - in this case trials where application a) (low speed and concequently a low temperature) would be more beneficial. In DH, high friction would result in high temps and therefore a pad that worked at higher temps would be more suitable As for the surface area issue, would this not also be the case on a grind on a rim brake? And if not, the same pressure over a smaller surface are would result in a better lock? (Its at this point that I tell you I'm an IT consultant and you tell me you are a Brake technician working for Brembo or something and I'll go into a corner and face the wall)

on/off for about 16 years (ridden for 21 years but not all of it trials) On-one trials gimp thing One essex bike trial event about 6 years ago. Street ever since

Sorry lad but I have to disagree Anything that causes more friction between the pads and the disc means greater stopping power. The old way of getting hopes to work (e2's, c2's and the like) was to throw the rotor in a dirty puddle or cover it with coke and let it dry, simply because it causes more friction. Ride through a muddy puddle and stick your brakes on - what happens, you stop a lot quicker. Brake discs being smooth is something transfered from the motor industry. Brake discs must be smooth in order to have a consistant braking effect and prevent vibration/judder. When you hit the brakes at 70mph the last thing you want is an uneven braking surface - something similar to warped discs (which in itself is a myth but I'll not bore you with that). Braking from 70mph is not something your python/echo/zoo/onza is going to experience on a regular basis and therefore having a consistent (smooth) contact surface is not paramount. The bedding in period is there to take the surface resin off the pads and apply a (fine) coating of pad to the disc, not make the disc smoother. Think about it - a new brakes bedding in period won't be enough to file away imperfections on a disc. To summerise, yes, you could grind your disc and its certainly not a stupid idea. Plus a disc is resiliant enough to allow a light/medium grind although one or two is probably its limit. But if it fails its going to be nasty. I'd probably get some better pads before I start grinding anything.

The fact that when I ride freeride or dh theres always something to prove or show off about. Unless you go massive or fast or throw all 4 limbs off the bike you're rubbish. And any other discipline dictates that you should have the best bike that cost £kkkkks but with trials as long as its got a decent rear brake and hub, you're pretty much laughing. Doesn't have the competitive element that the others do, doesn't have to have the latest equipment, and its not like throwing yourself off a big old cliff with 3 feet of travel both ends, landing hard and saying you have skills. Oh, and I can roll out of my driveway and practise without having to travel miles to the trails At the party of bike riders, trials riders are the stragglers at the end

Are the evo maggies a pile of poo? Just wondering as I'm thinking of getting one for one of my bikes but had conflicting reports about them Cheers
-
Champion Thanks lads Just bought an Ultimate with an XTR lever. Happy days! Cheers Flange
-
Alright folks I'm about to change from a rear hayes hydro to something rim-braked. Quite fancy a v-brake rather than a maggie, anyone know whats the best, how much and where from? Cheers Flange

Again - thanks for the input. Set of trailblades now ordered from Wiggle and on their way (Y) Norco-trials - I could afford to get a pure trials bike but I probably wouldn;t use it enough to warrent spending a shit load on one. In doing this, I can use the bike for a number of purposes. Although like they say, jack of all trades, master of none. Oh, and the deemax's came off my 4x bike
-
Thanks for the compliments chaps If anyone see's me about then you're more than welcome to have a go. Might give the trailblades a shot actually. And that seat does need sorting - its offensive Oh, its got silver deemax's on it now which is nice.

About 4 months ago I was with the mentality that I need a trials bike, a dh bike, a street bike, a jump bike, a road bike and a standing around looking at girls bike. Which got to be a) pointless as some of them I wouldn't ride for over a year and :P very expensive as I had to maintain them all. So I've tried to build something that I can ride street, trials (to my piss poor level), dirt jumps and the BMX track should the mood take me. I've ended up with this Not pretty but I'm finding I ride it a lot more than the other bikes that I've got. If I go to the BMX track or dirt jumping I just swap over the cranks to some trouserfelts (truative) and maybe let some air out the forks. Other than that its ace and definatley progression for someone whose never going to worry the UCI boys. Oh, and I'm running it Single speed for lazyness and its probably for the best if you ignore the seat as its all I had at the time
-
I don't like to run anything bigger than DMR moto's on my jump bikes - anything bigger and with more tread means I have to pedal harder which can't be good! Oh, and I've just got a test set of the new Bontrager Urban Earls for street and they're ace - give them a try when they come out You want something like a Moto, moto digger or Tioga FS100, all of which you can get from CRC
