  1. A quick throw back to the mpg thing a little while back. The highest I've seen the mfa read since I started driving it.
  2. I am indeed. Just waiting for a quite day at work so I can spend a half hour with the programmer and turn my scirbbling into a proper drawing. It'll end up being 325mm with 90mm dish.
  3. How much of a lip do they need to be effective? I could laser something in ally at work easy enough..
  4. I'm not sure...The steering feels light and as if the car is a little floaty. Its almost of if it moves left and right ever so slightly, but you can feel it.
  5. Whats the best way of bringing a bit of stability to the front end at speed? Splitter? Undertray? Sciroccos have the big rear wing, which I like, but it makes the front end light. I need something to counteract it.
  6. Problem. Right, if I leave the car overnight the battery drains to 10v according to the gauge, never less. And the battery light comes on which to my mind supports the gauge. This makes starting a little awkward but not impossible. After 5 - 8 minutes of driving, and the gauge reading 10v and the battery light being on, it fixes itself. The gages jumps, almost instantly, up to 13v with no other electrics being on or between 11.5v and 12.5v if I have lights, stereo, blowers etc. Normal. I'm curious about the drain and potential causes. Any ideas?
  7. On a scale of 1 to dreadful..How 'bad' are the ebay special replica steering wheels? Ok for daily duties or steer well clear all together?
  8. Joys of owning an old daily. Just fitted new flexs pipes at the front, auxillary belt and new front wheel bearings. Gave everything a pasting with copper grease. Coilovers are in the post, along with spacers.
  9. Nora!! Did the camshaft letting go cause any other damge then? Valves to pistons or anything?
  10. I think I've mentioned before, a mate of mine built a lairy festa and raves about your car, from zsoc or somewhere. Whats the power like from the 1600 in standard form? Could be a candidate for a project of mine!
  11. That the duratec turbo thing? Also, this thread needs more talk about the t-f car meet.
  12. The first time since I've been driving I've actually sorted some real winter tyres...And it stays mild for months.
  13. It does sound rather appealing, for the views and ease of sight..As for just randomly turning onto the grass and taking a detour, I'm not so sure. On another note (again), when looking at 4 cylinder fwd engines...Are there any other contenders over the VAG 20vt? Not including v-tex yo as I'm not a fan and theyre to expensive.
  14. Its more entertaining when the wall is inches from your cheek when you're making progress down a nice tight twisty road.
  15. Somebody owns those fields and often have animals and other farmery stuff in them..They'd be none to pleased with motorists just driving through! European driving sounds rather interesting...
  16. I'll have to get under and have a look when the sun comes up. 98% of the underneath got overhauled in one form or another when I had it off the road earlier in the year.
  17. They're Toyo T1R, yep all 4 are the same and all are at same pressures. Suspension is standard shocks with -40 springs. Other than that its all normal. The only additonal brace is a front lower between the front most wishbone mounts. The now rear tyres used to be the fronts for around 2000miles. I swapped them over to keep the wear even. So the fronts would be around 4-5mm and the rears 3-4mm.
  18. On a slightly different note, how do you find your Sciroccos handling? Mine seems to a bit tail happy. Lift off oversteer is plentyful and easy to induce but sometimes if I'm cornering a bit quick it just starts to wander out all on its own..
  19. I currently get around 230 miles a tank..25.4mpg according to mfa.
  20. I like blue. I have in no way suggested or attempted to suggest that they are anything other than what they are. It came with drums and will always have drums, 80s baby! AIDs is definitely worse. Its not that bright, honest! Fortunately its my car and for now I do kind of like the blue touches. We'll see, I imagine the novelty will wear off eventually.
  21. I'll have to have a look at a distance next time the sun is up. I think they're small enough to be subtle and its not a mega bright blue. The advantage to running a paintshop I guess, I can get it all redone at a moments notice.
  22. Little update from mois. Rear wheel cylinder decided to failure massively last wednesday on the way home from work. M1, 65mph is, downhill into traffic with no brakes was not a massively pleasent experience. Its had new cylinders, shoes, cables and drums as a result. I powdercoated the drums in the same blue ive been doing all the little pieces. I quite like it. While I was out to play, fitted the new cambelt cover too. Again painted in the same blue, this time its a high gloss 2k rather than powder. One of the welders at work likes to play with pinstriping in his spare time so over a 10 minute break at work he doodled on it. Just had a quick wash. My method. Rinse with water. Wash with Wilkos car soap and a sponge. Rinse with water. I did get right under as far as the exhaust tunnel in an attempt to keep as much salt off it as possible. I dont want this one to rot away. I'm hoping to get it into work sometime early next year and repaint it. Its had a home brew job as somepoint in the last year by the previous owner..Its glossy enough but its a bit pimply and theres a nice sag on the bootlid swage line. Also, where they've not properly wiped it down prior to painting there are little inclusions which are starting to discolour. I think i'll be going over it with a commerical poly-extra 2k rather than real car paint though.
  23. I've been looking at getting one and was thinking of using thinners/solvents in. Is there anyway to get them to give a polished type finish? I guess the frequencies are to minimal to get sand to do anything?
