I don't think it's just the insurance group that matters - it's all based on statistics and that's why a 1.0 polo or whatever will be very expensive. Lots of young people drive them and get in accidents, regardless of their power. That's another factor that made my insurance so cheap in my first year of driving - whilst my car is a 1.8i it is a car that no young people would drive. It's relatively tight. The clanking isn't the chain knocking against the chainstay, if that's what you're thinking.

STILL BLOODY CLANKING. The BB is tight, the cranks are tight, it seems like everything is tight yet it still clanks when either foot is at the bottom of the pedal stroke - sometimes. It only does it for a period each time. Sometimes it doesn't clank at all, other times it does it every stroke. Any more thoughts on what it could be? I'm getting sick of not being able to ride the bike I payed £500 for, for fear of damaging it.

It is a HUGE amount to do with where you live. Example: your 3rd party fire & theft on a 1.0 car was £1700 in London after just passing. My 3rd party fire & theft on a 1.8 Volvo 440xi was £1250 in the Lake District just after passing. One of my friends in Manchester had the same problem, £2100 on a 1.1 fiesta.

If you have a link to your topic in the wiki and have some spare time, you could rewrite the contents of your topic as an article in the wiki - then other people can expand on it.

I'm afraid not. I know that at least for now, one can redirect. Here's how, with an example of how I fixed the Tightening Cranks page name: 1. Went to the Tightening Cranks page, clicked edit and copied the entire contents. 2. Searched for Tightening cranks, no article found, clicked on create the article. 3. Pasted contents of Tightening Cranks page and saved it. We now have two pages exactly the same - however we don't want this, we want one central page. 4. Returned to the Tightening Cranks page and clicked edit. Deleted the entire contents. 5. Inserted a redirect by adding: #REDIRECT [[Tightening cranks]] So now we have solved the problem of having the wrong name, AND when someone incorrectly links to Tightening Cranks, they won't get a blank page; they'll get redirected to the right page. Edit: You got redirected because I just added the redirect ...And it was the other way around, you got redirected from Tightening Cranks to Tightening cranks. I'll put more emphasis on using the third-person narrative - for those who don't know what it is, it means you don't say 'I think...' or write as though it is you talking to someone. It's the style used in formal documents and it maintains a more professional feel. Examples: 1st person: "I decided that..." 3rd person: "It was decided that..." 1st person: "I think that..." 3rd person: "Some think that..." Also don't make your articles biased. Don't put your own personal opinion into them.

Some other thoughts: - Try and use third-person narrative when writing an article. - Some editors/admins will be needed to maintain consistency and a naming convention - ordinary users can't rename articles. Example: there is an article 'Tightening Cranks'; linking to 'Tightening cranks' will not link to it because of different capitalisation. When creating the former article I mistakenly used capitals for both words when that was not correct, and I can't change it.

Also note that if you're registered already, you won't see the new skin unless you select it.

That's the best bit, and the entire point of most wikis. You don't have to make a commercial-quality, final-draft page. It encourages people who wouldn't normally to submit content. When anyone posts anything it's not the be all and end all, it's just a foundation for more content.

I sent a PM to someone recently about credits in the wiki and I thought others might want to discuss it, so here's the gist of it: I don't think credits should be given on the wiki pages. This is because each article has many authors. Person A may submit a draft article, person B may correct some spelling mistakes and person C may add to it. After we get to person Z along the article's normal life cycle it doesn't resemble the original article and so crediting just the initial author alone would not be adequate, and crediting every contributor would not be tidy. No crediting is given on wikipedia, and I think that this would be more 'for everyone' if no one person got the credit for an article so many have worked on. Also, credits do exist in some form in the page history, as records of who has edited it.

Yes, I think disambiguation pages and redirects are the answer. If you've tried searching for something under a name you know of, but found it under another name, it wouldn't be much effort to stick in a redirect. What does need expanding on is help - plenty of people, myself included, don't know much about editing a wiki (aside from the simple things like formatting). Also - don't be afraid to add links to things that aren't there yet - it's an invitation to expand. For example, I'm just going over correcting a couple of spelling mistakes in an article and I'll be adding a link to a magura maintenance page that hasn't been created yet. When the articles do get created they will be created with that name, if the person creating it followed that link. If not, it can be easily changed in the future. It's not as though empty links will look the same as normal ones and result in a 404 like on the interweb; they are put in a different colour for those who didn't already know, and when you click them it enters the edit section for the missing page, allowing you to create it.

It's actually for the retaining nut for my cones - it didn't occur to me that a cone spanner would come in that size, but yes - that sounds ideal. Thanks. I'll check the other places too. Edit: the snapon ones seem to be too thick, at ~7mm.

I'm after a particularly thin spanner - not adjustable, I'm after 17mm. The thing is all the normal ones I see in B&Q etc. are too thick; I'm looking for one with a really thin profile, of less than 3mm. Not a ring spanner. Does such a spanner exist? Anyone know where I can get one?

Will something like that need to be fastened down somehow? Or will it be heavy enough on its own?

Finally the BB tool arrived. I took the cranks off (and I was impressed at the logic behind the design of the crank extractor), tightened the BB (not insanely tight, it wasn't easy to get a purchase on the tool) and I've now put the cranks back on as tight as I could. My question now is, can I expect my cranks to develop play over the next few rides? Will they need tightening up shortly because they'll need to settle in? I just want to know if I should keep an eye out.

I do have an ACS freewheel. I'll have a look for those threads and tighten it. I think I still need to tighten the bottom bracket though; I can see it move slightly on the side opposite the drivetrain. Thanks.

I've noticed that when I push the crank in and out with my hand, I can see the bottom bracket moving a little. I'm guessing this means it is the bottom bracket that is loose then? What tool do I need? Could someone point one out on chain reaction? If my crank needs to come off to tighten the bottom bracket, I'll need a crank extractor, right? I have one but I have absolutely no idea how to use it. I've had this bike a few weeks now and I've hardly been able to ride it because it's always needed something doing to it, it's a pain in the arse.

I've used 123-reg for my .com domain, but not for any webspace. Note that you do not have to buy webspace from the people you buy a name from. Generally speaking they will be poor value. .com is more money because it is global top level domain. .co.uk is a secondary domain of the country-specific .uk top level domain, so there is less competition for them. You have to pay for a name because there is a small amount of administrative cost/effort that the company who is registering it for you has to bear. As for the hosting, you are better off finding another company for that as you'll get better value. Unfortunately I don't know of a good company, all my hosting comes free with my ISP package. Once you have a host (which will invariably offer FTP access unless it's a free one) you can go to the 123-reg control panel (having registered a name, of course) and change the nameservers to point to those for your hosting. If you are serious about having a website (as opposed to just experimenting with one etc.) don't use tripod.
