  1. It's finally rideable (sort of, rear brake pads may be contaminated)

I was getting a chain skipping issue with the spoke tensioner, so knocked up a new one.

I just need to find the time to get out for a couple hours now. Its also going to benefit from a higher rise/longer stem at some point.

Trying to imagine what that would feel like to ride. That geo. Those tyres. No grips.

With the rear rim side wall repainted, that would look the ticket.

Like a proper trials bike Ross! I can't wait to get it finished and try to ride again.

Rear tyre does feel a little dead, but it will do for now, it's not like I will be going big.

    Awesome engineering at that dropout!

Thanks! If I ever have the time to make a mk2 I might extend it forward under the dropout and include a mount for the sprung part of a trialtech tensioner.

  3. My first thread in here for a while!

As some of you may know, I stopped riding a reasonable while ago now.

I had a brief flurry back on a bike during lockdown mk1 when I build an Echo Pure, however in hindsight I should have stuck to what I knew and built something more like I used to ride.

Now that I have aged a little I am not looking to build anything too modern or that might attract attention to my now lack of skill.

With the advancement in disc pads and rotors I was keen to give dual disc a try again so the hunt was on to find a suitable 26inch frame.

I picked up an Ozonys XS26 which was in need of a little bit of TLC, as with many there is a crack on the drive side dropout, so my plan is to remove the cracked material and create a bolt in dropout.

As it stands, I *think* I have everything I need, spec is going to be:

    Ozonys XS26 frame

    Echo Urban fork

Echo 170mm CNC cranks, bash and 18t sprocket.

Trialtech stem & Viz bars (bars may change to something wider)

Fluorescent yellow Tryall rims on CK singlespeed rear and Tryall front hubs with Like new Tryall tyres.

Sheco brakes, echo calipers and shimano levers with trialtech pads on the rear and 200mm hope V2 trials rotors

I am quite excited to get this built and will try to update this thread as things come together.

I have recently moved back to Cornwall, so all the spots I learnt on are now local again, so can't wait to get back out there on some cornish natural!

  4. Hoping someone can help, I have an original Koxx/Tryall Fluro rim that I want to swap with an Tryall hOle rim, anyone know if the erd is similar enough to use the same spokes?

    These are the 2 rims:

Something in my head is saying they were similar erd, but I am not confident to commit on that. Lol

    Thanks

Likely you are probably set on the Maguras as they do seem to get recommended. However as another option I have been using the shimano XT 4 pots and they have always felt like plenty of power and I like the lever feel - nice and direct. I’ve also bashed up the levers a fair few times without to much damage and when I did to smash one up to far it was a cheap and easy fix. Anyway thought I’d just throw them in as an option!

Shimano 4 pots were actually another option of mine, but probably not XT, there are some Deore level 4 pots which could be the best value for money.

I have however heard that shimano calipers aren't the strongest, which put me off a little bit.

  6. I do, but not racing, it gets used on the local trails and is my go to bike at the moment. When the days draw out a bit it will get semi slicks and I am hoping to ride to work on it a couple of times a week, obligatory picture:

I have to admit is a very fun bike and surprisingly capable offroad!

  7. So, a rare post from me in the car thread!

Taken the decision to get rid of the Seat Leon Cupra 20vt, too expensive to tax, not economical enough any more etc etc As shuned as I might be I am looking to replace it with an 03/04 plate Mondeo hatchback diesel, cheaper to tax, insure and better on fuel!

So if anybody is interested ;)

  8. My new (to me) Cotic BFe, its a little heavier than my last bike (KHS Alite) but I am sure I will cope!

Just ordered some Renthal Lite bars and on the look out for a 70mm stem! Brief spec includes Hope Pro2 wheel set, Rockshox Revelation RLT 150mm forks (Probably for sale soon!) Avid brakes (soon to change) Schwalbe Rocket Ron tyres, SLX cranks running a 2x9 setup and a Rockshox Reverb, Really happy with it, just need to find it some trails now!

  9. Love it Prawny!! I would love another V-Racing, but I would have to find one in the original blue, as it was lovely! I still like the fact that they were designed back when gears were required for comps, hence the thumb shifter mount on the seat tube :D

  10. Bike looks lovely, however I am going to agree with Rockman, those levers are not flip flop, so you really should source a new lever for that brake so that the reseviour is the correct side, like he says it could cause issues with seals, I am surprised the oil isn't leaking out of the over flow slot in the reseviour cap.....

  11. True but then Bigman never had a problem with snapping chains? He had his technique dialled and was nice and smooth and could outgap 95% of people on this forum.

After the rider weight thing had been mentioned I was wondering how long it would be until somebody mentioned me!! Smoothness of the power delivery through the cranks - freewheel - chain is a massively important thing, I know you probably wouldn't have made such an issue of it if it was sombody other than Ali that mentioned it, but it is seriously worth looking into it, ensure your at the engagement point of the freewheel and then push, don't just rely on the fact that all these new 108engagement freewheels will have an engagement soon, preloading the drivetrain is quite important!

I ran KMC Z610hx chains for years and I don't actually remember snapping any, I would generaly replace it after 5 - 6 months as a precaution. I weighed between 19 - 20 stone pretty much throughout my riding time, I was gapping 8ft + and never had any worries regarding my drivetrain!

I am running a Z610hx on my inspired now, and don't plan on changing it out, I would even run this chain if I decided to try brakeless, which as we know puts serious strain on chains and freewheels etc!
