  1. Plaz coating is real old school! I remember someone saying that the harshest coating would wear out a set of magura black pads in a matter of weeks! it did however work amazing, or so they said!

I once ran a Mavic Ceramic coated rim (unsure if they still make these) on the back of my bike, this was also an amazing coating, pads would barely wear but work realy well in any weather, my koxx browns on that rim were very impressive! these rims were generaly about £50-60 compared to the standard D521 at £25ish

  2. Well.

I thought I best elaberate on this abit, this is the lever that I bought, mostly because it was cheap and I didn't want to spend loads of money if it turned out to be shite:

    M445 Disc Lever

I also got a proper shimano olive and hose insert but used the hosing that came with the echo brake, I have now also changed the rotor that I am using, it is now fitted with a magura storm SL rotor, and using the echo disc pads (I can only imagine the hope pads would be better) I have one of the best brakes I have ever had on a bike.

So over all, for under £20 outlay the improvement in the brake is deffinately worth it! also I find the shimano lever to be much more comfortable!

  3. Right, I stuck up some pictures of my echo a few weeks ago, now heres my other ride, its an 09 Beta Evo 250 2 stroke, just fitted new mudguards and my new custom stickers :D Just waiting on some red rim strips (for the sidewalls) and the I might get some red silicone hoses.....

    Any hoo, pics:

  4. I am not 100% sure why they do this, the backings are the standard power pad backngs that are used on pretty much every other trials pad out there. My suggestion would be to get the material out and stick it into either another set of plastic backings or put it into some metal backings.

  5. How tall are you out of interest?

I am around 6ft4, and I have to say it feels fine with this stem.

Nice to see you're finally back on a bike mate. What happened with the Rockman 24"? Could try the Hope Trial Pro pads to up the brake performance too? Get yourself back down to the west country soon!

I have just fitted a £13 shimano disc lever onto the front brake and it feels realy good, i will see what its like properly on a ride tomorrow :) It seems promising!

  6. Is that one of those old echo frames because i f**kING LOVE those frames and their geo!

and thats a pretty good tap im my opinion, i do less than that and have been riding solidly (more or less) for the past two years.

HELL NO ITS NOT AN ECHO!! its a Koxx!

Bikes looking good Prawny! Ride soon!

  7. Mark Beat me too it, they aren't made by Hope.

I have one on my Echo 24, I was initialy unsure as to what it would be like, but I have been plesently surprised this weekend after some proper rides on it, it was holding on some fairly hefty front wheel gaps! I will soon be bleeding a shimano disc brake lever onto it which should improve it more, I will report back once its done.

  8. I'm still a little confused as to why you've gone 24", Adam, but you've gone about it the right way :P

Any particular reason you've not gone back to 26"? Be good to see how you get on with it (Y)

I know a few people have asked why I have decided to try a 24inch, but its something I have wanted to try for years! even before actualy trialsy 24's were around I have wanted one (even designed a frame many moons ago) I have always loved mods, but they are way too small for me, so a trialsy 24 was the next option realy, had a first proper ride on it yesterday and its awesome, like I mentioned above, pedal ups are the only thing thats realy going to take abit of getting used to!

  9. Right then, after 10-11 months off a bike I have finaly bought another, I now have an Echo Trial 24inch, and I love it! its going to take abit of getting used to for pedal ups, but for gaps and sidehops etc its awesome, can't wait to give it a shot on some natural!!

It is pretty much the standard Echo supplied spec, I bought it with the Tartybikes Mod stem and also TNN beleay pads, I have also no fitted my modified atomz bash, my Rockman riser bars and a DMR moto digger 2.1 front tyre, and I am just waiting for my Schwalbe Big Betty to arrive for the rear, then is just to sort the front brake with its new lever and get an 05 magura body for the rear!

I was abit worried about the front TR disc brake actualy, but after todays ride I am a little more impressed, it held up on some fairly big front wheel gaps, so it could be even better when I fit the shimano disc brake lever I have to try on it :)
