  1. weight is less than most similar hubs on the market, although the general rule we came up with yesterday was that weight would not be compromised for strength. At this point people seem to be asking for disc/ non-disc, through axle, bolts, snails, no snails, however the market of trials components in which hope manufacture is very small, predominantly they manufacture mountain bike components for cross country, freeride and downhill, where there is more demand and need, they are even swaying more into the road market, with literally hundreds of hub/colour/ spoke drilling/ mounting combinations available mean that they dont really want to be doing trials in disc/ non disc options, as somebody pointed out in an earlier post for the screw on hub alone there would be over 40 combinations to manufacture, this is a lot of work for hope especially with plans for a screw on and ratchet version in 110mm basically at this point in time, hope would manufacture the screw on mod hub with a disc mount, in 32 and 36 hole, in the 6 colour options and a pro2 mod hub with a disc mount, in 32 and 36 hole, in the 6 colour options, otherwise there would literally be hundreds of options............ a disc mount on the hub literally adds grams.......... not worth bothering about removing in all honesty hope seem to be expanding quite rapidly now, they are well established in the US now and have a broad customer base, lots of exciting new products being thought up, manufacturing products such as hubs, discs, lights, headsets, bottom brackets and full wheel sets as well as all the 'trick bits'. it is good design and manufacture at hope, run by engineers, one thing hope are good at is the development work and speed at which they operate without flaws. wish it was so easy as to hit a resize button lol, far from that, back to the drawing board yes fully working prototype, unsure yet, no set dates, i will keep you posted on progress. no, that option would simply cost too much and is not feasible. Cheers Ash
  2. Enjoy, a few images taken from today at hope, baby pro2, lightweight, through axle and snail cams Regards Ashley
  3. some pics to follow later this evening from today, some of you may like them
  4. UPDATE been in conversation with owen at hope and waynio again this week, hope mod cassette disc hub.
  5. upto you really with how confident you feel, to be honest even if you do mess the build up, theres nothing stopping you starting it again and its not as though you would damage the parts ash
  6. as mentioned, the mono has been discontinued but replaced with the pro 3 which features stainless steel bearings made exclusively for hope as well, pretty much just an evolution of the mono front, can't go wrong with either. have a go at wheel building yourself! everyone should try it at least once! ash
  7. dunno, maybe it is a possitive step forwards for trials?
  8. this was mentioned by hopes designer, the only the problem forseeable with this is the amount of small parts in relation to cost of manufacture, they already make a huge selection of hubs for other markets with almost every configuration available. i like the idea that try-all are currently using with theres. cheers ashley
  9. its something that got mentioned when me and wayne was down at hope, especially incorporating the disc mount, the only problem you ever have with designing mod hubs is the lack of "standard" i.e. monty 106mm frame, 110mm frames and 116mm frames, this often throws the disc mount position out a mile and requires the use of 3mm spacers and different end caps, similar to the new range of try all hubs, never a problem when working with a stock frame configuration. whats your views on a screw on stock rear hub with no disc mount? cheers ashley good point
  10. good advice, we had actually considered a spline, similar to the echo hubs which use a lockring, maybe this is a possibility for us. how about titanium notched snail cams? i use monty snails atm, they seem ok with the notches in the other side to the argument, a screw on cog on a wheel is easy to remove with a piece of chain and a bench vice, easier manufacture than a spline as well. adam, i will speak with owen at hope this week. the idea for the axle design was taken from motor trials and similar for the dh bikes. its something we have never tried before, wayne is currently testing a through axle design on his stock pro2 good point, something that was never really talked about. maybe the spline idea is a way forward? keep the comments coming! cheers ashley a mod pro 2 would have a disc mount possibly? which currently no cassette hubs have for a mod, except a modified king. ash
  11. I havnt weighed the hub yet, im not in work til 10pm tonight but i will weigh it when i get in, the bearings are 17x28. with regards to spacing from the disc mount face to the frame is 15.5mm (international standard) although when using the cams on the inside (116mm spaced frames) the disc will not be in the correct position so a hope 3mm spacer will be required to move the disc into its correct position, (these fit between the disc rotor and the hub) the through axle is something to try out, its never really been tried before and as you mention it does make sense for a trials bikes, (similar design to a motor trials rear axle configuration) the axle that i have got has use for spanner and has been broached to use a 8mm allen key aswell. if this proves not to work we can simply use an M10 bolt like on the pro2, it is probably the same weight as using the through axle. the other factor we are a little unsure about until we have tried it out is the snail cams, notches or no notches on the outer profile, as i mentioned the hub is something to try out, and the same will more then likely be applied for a stock frame as well, the ideas came about when me and wayne were at hope talking about possible new products. cheers ashley
  12. they would be available in all hope colours and drillings, at present we have only made 8 to test out, luckily enough just as they were being anodised last week i was down at hope and managed to get mine done in gunsmoke to match the other components on my bike, in terms of a cassette hub, i agree it would be really nice, maybe thats something to look into........................................ as far as i am aware there could also be a 26" rear screw on hub being produced, this would not have a rear disc mount though, as many stock riders only tend to use rear magura or v-brake. Most of this is only at a talking stage, nothing has been drawn up, would be really good for some feedback and oppinions on here. cheers ashley
  13. cheers for the reply, what do you mean, shame it uses through axle? do you not think it is a good design? the axle can be used with all frames that have a 10mm horizontal dropout by the way, it is something that we thought we would try, we are unsure if it will even work at present, i need to build the wheel up this week and give it a go, if the through axle proves to be unreliable then we will use the normal 10mm bolts like on the current pro2 regards ashley
  14. A few pictures of the hope mod rear hub i have just received, The hub is screw on to accept either a freewheel or screw on cog, it features a through axle design, and has a disc mount, it is spaced at 110mm with 3mm snail cams, allowing for the use of a 110mm frame with the snails on the outside of the frame or with a 116mm frame with the snail cams on the inside. your views are welcome Regards Ash
  15. M12 X 1.00 is a metric fine or metric special thread, just found some bolts priced at £2.64 each that would be suitable, obviously they would require the diamter turning to 3/8" for the clearance, way cheaper than fun bolts. Would be good to try some to test for strength etc ash
  16. ouch, that is very steep, seems stupid to pay so much, what thread size and pitch are the bolts?
  17. if you think thats nice, check out waynios headtube and the weight saving on his zenith, proper job
