I was same, into a bit of dual slalom for ages then my cousin got Chainspotting on video and our mtb world changed!
10 years later and I'm still crap!
Thats funny, im probably crap too, i havnt rode in 4 years. i wanna dig up them vids now, will be a blast from the past lol.

Agreed, that vid worries me. Start on smalling things and get used to getting your back wheel right on the edge (I mean so close that if you let go of your break you would pretty much just roll down the wall) then lower the front and get you bum over the back and release the brake (maybe with the tiniest crank rotation to make sure the back goes down first). Once you are off push your feet towards the landing and on impact soak it up as much as possible.
Very useful advice, you have explained that very well, cant wait to try it.
Cheers mate.

The thing i dont understand is why josh is getting so into it all? He cant vote for people to become members, he's stuck in new members so why does it effect him so much?Josh, top tip here. Stop being a tool! It just makes you stay here longer
These two posts make it sound like the new members chat is a punishment "he's stuck in new members" And "it just makes you stay here longer"
Not very welcoming. think this thread should be deleted. its also takin all the attention away from genuine new members threads.

if i was to get another bike i was thinking of building a more street orientated 26inch, with something like an azonic ds1 frame. i cant see the point in having the monty if im not gonna ride it. might be better off with a collector if there is such a thing lol.
what to do now, i didnt think they were that rare, its made me look at it in a different way now.
-
since ive had it ive renewed the maguras the cranks and the back wheel. the maguras and rear wheel have pretty much not been used. the rear wheel was as close as i could get to the original.
-
Not to new-members certainly.....I however think that looks amazing; brilliant condition too.
Thank you mate, ive been off the trials scene for 4 years now so she hasnt had much use over the years. i was thinking of upgrading to a front disk but im worried it will ruin an originality as i would end up with a new front wheel forks ect.

How about a park bench, you could even use it to sit on when your not using it for trials

I suppose retro bikes dont appeal to new members judging by the response lol.

its true that first impressions do mean alot, but then at the same time...if a new potential member came along to the forum they would also potentially see a long string of pointless topics in NMC, most of which with replies along the lines of 'this question has been asked', 'no selling in NMC', 'refer to the NMC rules' and a load of pretty pointless posts created just in a bid to gain attention to become validated.
surely this would be as bad an impression as one single topic discussing (quite childishly at times) the validation system?...much better anyway than the new potential member thinking the forum is full of tards who cant spell, ask daft questions a monkey could answer, have an inablity to use and common sence or read and follow basic rules.
im hoping just as a result of this being here...it may have stopped at least a couple of daft topics or a couple of ridiculous validation votes being made. much better all this nonsence is confined to one topic than spread across the forum
EDIT* before anyone joins on the bandwagon of through abuse, i am aware i dont use capital letters and im aware one of the mods refuses to validate someone if thats the case! what can i say, i just dont like them...its like alphabet hierarchy
Reduce collateral, good thinking, let all the bullshit stay in one place....on that note im gonna stop writing on this thread lol.

You'll soon learn you get a new thread like this every so often - either someone makes two posts and demands to be validated immediately or someone gets the hump because they've been sent back into NMC.
More often than not, it'll be shut down and ignored; however, some of the replies are pretty valid. I rarely vote on this thing; but when I do I make sure I look at the previous post history.
Seems like it could be a good system if its not abused, a bit complicated but from what im reading it seems to be a working progress. The problem with a thread like this is it will be the first thing a new member will see, they might decide this forum is too childish (which is what this thread has come accross to me) and then not use it. And that person could have been a valuble member with lots of knowledge and good imput that the forum would have lost.
First impressions are everything, it works both ways im sure.

This post does not look good for the forum, for a new member (ie myself) this is the only section you can partake in and its getting clogged up with threads with pointless bickering, threads like this should be deleted as soon as it goes off topic, which it clearly has.
More trials chat and less arguing.
Thank You

About 10 years i was given chainspotting and dirty tricks and cunning stunts for christmas. I watched them and i was hooked the martin's sections in chainspotting blew me away i had never seen such bike control and i was hooked.
Same mate, i remember watching the video and thinking how they did it, i was amazed, then me and a friend tried it on normal mountain bikes with not much success. I learnt a bit in the end, not much though lol.

You will have to excuse the seat, the original died in a trial accident lol.
What do you guys think?

Anyone into Retro bikes? Has modern technology progressed enough to make a rider have an advantage riding a modern bike?
I have a 98 Monty 221 Xlite Cesar Canas Replica, who else rides retro and what have you got?
If you have pics of your retro bike feel free to post.
Cheers.
