Internet Service Providers

Hi I've just found out I can stay in my flat for another year so I'm gonna get broardband internet.

I'm not sure what this really involves. I currently have a phone line that is not connected (the line is physically there but not active).

I gather broadband can be sent through a normal phone line now (ie. you don't have to have a seperate cable like for cable TV) so do I just contact a broardband provider and pay them and they will activate my phone line and give me a modem or do BT need to activate the line first?

I have a laptop with a wireless network thingy (can get internet in hotels etc.) so I guess I need a wirless modem?

I would also like a normal phone line too as I currently spend a fortune on my mobile!

Can anyone give me any advice or recommend a good value service provider - I'm after something pretty fast with no download limit.

Thanks for your help,

John.

You'll need to phone up BT first and foremost and get them to reactivate your line, it doesn't take long, mine was done the next morning. Then you'll need to start paying line rental at £11 a month. They should reactivate it for free.

You'll need a wireless modem yes, some service providers give them to you when you sign up for 12 months. Otherwise you can get them for I'd guess about £35.

Theres no such thing as no download limit nowadays, most have a 'fair usage policy'. I use freeola.com because even though they do have limits, they're pretty high - but come at a cost.

Thats as far as my knowledge goes... but hopefully should have cleared a few things up.
