From working in a bike shop i have seen that its cheaper to buy a compleat bike but then it also doesn't have every part on it that you want.

when building you're own bike ou have all the bits that you want and that you pick but you do need a knollage of bikes so you know that you are getting the corect size parts etc etc

Why? It's the same principle fitting parts to any bike, regardless of its intended purpose!

It's easy peasy to build bikes, things like cassettes require specialist tools, but most bike shops are decent enough to do little bits like that for free :)

Otherwise all you'll need is some spanners, allen keys, and maybe a hammer

Frankly speaking, my trials bike is far easier to build then my dj/dh bikes. There is much less on them if youn dont run cassetts and forks and stuff.

But even so if you have never done it before and dont have anyone around who knows what they are doing i would buy a complete bike. Or you could buy the parts you want and take them to your lbs and have them teach to to build it.

Just make sure you get what you want and take your time building the bike.

It usually takes me about 3 hours to build my bike because i like to have a few beers and have a good slow time so i dont f**k anything up.

Cheers,

Ian

I work in bike shop in brum and i find it cheaper to build one, im in the process of building a echo hifi with a few of my own specs and plus if you make it yourself you feel chuffed that you built it and you kinda look after it more if you know what i mean. but have a look into it anyway.
