ive been told its rubbish because you've got to let the lever right out when you gap.

You'd have to let the lever out on a magura aswell, otherwise your rear wheel isn't going to move anywhere? A disc brake is exactly the same as a magura, they both stop the rear wheel. Discs just work better. Hence why everyone uses them on the front, they've only started to be more common on the rear of trials bikes because frame manufacturers have started to stiffen up the rear end to cope with the force of a disc on one side of the chainstay.
