ression arises because of an individuals relationship to their experience. This can be changed but unfortunately our culture doesn't really equip individuals with the right tools for changing their situation. Self awareness, introspection, contemplation and human psychology would be apt activities and studies for individuals from young ages in terms of avoiding depression or quickly dispelling it if it arose. We're mostly on our own in that regard though, unless we see a councillor or psychologist and even then, it's often a limited means of dealing with your situation. If an individual ended up simply being able to cope, never getting depressed, then they are pretty lucky but that was most likely, but not always, a blind development. I think it makes more sense for individuals to be better rounded because they are aware about what it is that makes humans beings, in general, mentally healthy. Human beings are pretty insane at the moment in my opinion and the ones that aren't depressed are most likely just adjusted to the general insanity through the cultural opiates. Of course, that's not something people like to hear <img src="http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pinch.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=">_<" border="0" alt="pinch.gif" />

I think anti-depressents should be used if they help somebody get back on course toward better mental health, but they certainly shouldn't be viewed as a fix for depression.

A friend of mine is on them, just sorts out her massive swings from happy to sad, she's more stable, still f**king loopy though :P

Although much happier as she has developed a sense of perspective and can control her mood better, as a result she's much happier and much better to be around.

My bro's just come off them but i think his were more for stress.

I think JT's prediction will be sqewed as exercise is one of the best anti-depressants and most of the forum are active individuals.

I can think of a few younger people I know, specifically, that claim to be depressed. From my perspective I think that it's interesting that they spend six to eight hours a day on Facebook. When they're faced with any kind of situation which involves using real social skills they clam up and moan afterwards about how no one likes them or can relate to them. I think that a lot of young people today are 'depressed' because any sort of real social interaction takes them completely out of their comfort zones.

Uber bump, but I voted yes. As I'm being treated by my Phyciatrist and I'm on Citaloprams for My Manic Depression.

"Citalopram has been found to greatly reduce the symptoms of...premature ejaculation."

Not to mock..... but... I couldn't resist.

I was thinking the same thing. The people i know who have depression and that are under 30 either spend most of their time online or have just had a baby. I wonder how not going on social networking sites would effect younger people with depression and whether it would be a quicker cure.

I think Ben had it right though with saying that depressed people just aren't well adjusted to this world. We get information thrown at us all the time, constantly being scared by the media, online communication seems to trump physical interaction nowadays and we get all the major corporations brainwashing us into buying the new latest fad just because we should. It's a lot to absorb and if you choose to deal with it by hiding away you just build walls for yourself when it comes to "unplugging" from the virtual and back into the real so to speak.

I find being easy going helps a lot and just realising that 90% of marketing is a gimmick, facebook is a tool for organising to ACTUALLY meet with people and that not watching the news/reading the papers does wonders for your health.

I agree with everything Krisboats has just said.

These young kids are the first generation that have really been hit by marketing and the wasteful society we are from day one.

Adverts/videos/movies/tv programs/networking website lies make their 'normal lives' seem quite shite and pointless.

Try and remember it's all lies wee people.
