But I'd imagine a builders bump cap with extra padding and a harness attached would make an almost adequate helmet. Wouldn't use it myself though. ah147 Posted August 13, 2012 Report Share Posted August 13, 2012 No doubting the shell itself is strong. Its transferance of the force from the shell to the head that I'd be worried about. I work on demolition sites and have seen a scaffold fitting drop through a glass ceiling and knock someone clean out who had a proper hard hat on, let alone a bump cap. They wont protect you from 100% of falls and knocks, they're designed to absorb as much of the impact as they can without transferring the energy to your head.
