Nick G
Hi guys, I’m after advice on which front freewheel to buy (that will run with the Crewkerz crank and bb combo). I’m currently running a new splined Trialtech front freewheel 108 on Trialtech cranks and I find the drag and noise way too much. Basically, out of the Crewkerz splined 108.9 and clean 135.8 splined freewheels, are either of them better for rolling and less drag than the Trialtech beast? Ideally, I am after recommendations for a modern, quieter, splined front FW that will be as quiet and same resistance as the ENO 72 FW. thanks in advance, sorry if posted in the wrong group. aener
I've no experience with modern freewheels as I switched to Hopes about 12 years ago, and this is very likely unfair but by my instinct I 100% wouldn't trust a freewheel made by either of those brands. People seem to prefer volume these days, so you might be hard-pressed to find what you're after. You might be able to bend the springs inwards or shave the extension down in height so there's less material pushing back in the Trialtech to alleviate some of the volume/drag. Not ideal, I know, but if all else fails... Josh is probably your guy for advice on bespoke solutions like that. I imagine he's fettled with all sorts of options before landing on double-springs in his own.
Alex Dark
To be honest I’m pretty sure all modern FFW use heavier springs so will be considerably more draggy than the eno you’re used to. For lower rolling resistance I’d definitely look at Freehub.
PeterH
Yeah, that's what they are for. This is like saying, I've got a nice F1 car, but am looking for a little more clearance for off roading. If FW noise is a deal breaker you are going to need to look into different cranks or a rear freehub, or you know, a different sport.
