Biology was absolutly solid! I hardly knew anything. let's hope I make it up in the other papers (Y) Edit: the annoying this is, I spent AGES today and yesterday night revising Meiosis, Mitosis, Active Transportation, Transpiration, Osmosis, Specialised cell stuff, and loads more stuff. None of it came up on the exam! None! Grr! Stuff like "How is eutrification similar to the above diagram" - And it was of a sewage thing, some rocks, summat about aerobic respiration and a spinning distributor thingy. It's a right bitch. I'd prefer to do what you two ^^ are doing. That, or module things. They can ask you wayyyy too much stuff in a 1h 45mins exam than they can in an hour! I have really struggled with Biology though. It was f**king so hard. I knew like, erm, 20 mark's worth of questions for sure. Outa 90! Maths tomorrow too. Shouldn't do too bad, my teacher keeps drilling it into us that "we'll do fine, we're the top 3% of the country" or some shite like that. I guessed everything except the differences between animal and plant cells (Y) It does my head in though, the double award thing. I need BB to get into Physics at A level, but I'm bollocks at Chemistry and Biology. Ours are with AQA, however your school's might be with Edexcel or whatever it is. Yours seems way better than mine, but it might be easier for me to get an A than you, if you get me. Your top boundary might be an A, where-as mine might be an A*. I'm no-where near sure though.. Ps. I learnt about Glaciation in Geog but didn't do the question lol. Oops. G-Jordan Posted June 6, 2005 Report Share Posted June 6, 2005 Pretty chuffed about my biology today, everything that came up i seemed to know, there was even just general knowledge stuff in there (like about the MMR vacination). I think it went well. Most of the exams so far have been pretty good actually. I think spanish reading/ writing has been the hardest for me. R.E was deffo the easiest, which was cool. Dead long though. R.E is great 'cos u can just say what you think/ know a couple of word deffinitions and get all the marks (Y) . George. Will google it now. Thanks, Callum A redshift is a shift in the frequency of a photon toward lower energy, or longer wavelength. The redshift is defined as the change in the wavelength of the light divided by the rest wavelength of the light, as z = (Observed wavelength - Rest wavelength)/(Rest wavelength) Note that postive values of z correspond to increased wavelengths (redshifts). Different types of redshifts have different causes. The Doppler Redshift results from the relative motion of the light emitting object and the observer. If the source of light is moving away from you then the wavelength of the light is stretched out, i.e., the light is shifted towards the red. These effects, individually called the blueshift, and the redshift are together known as doppler shifts. The shift in the wavelength is given by a simple formula (Observed wavelength - Rest wavelength)/(Rest wavelength) = (v/c) so long as the velocity v is much less than the speed of light. A relativistic doppler formula is required when velocity is comparable to the speed of light. The Cosmological Redshift is a redshift caused by the expansion of space. The wavelength of light increases as it traverses the expanding universe between its point of emission and its point of detection by the same amount that space has expanded during the crossing time. The shcool also re-entered me for GNVQ Science which I've already got a Merit in Unit 2 and high merits/distinctions in the coursework so I drew alot of men shooting themselves in my paper with the saying "what exams do to children when you passed already. Heres one I did on paper when the Envigilator complained. My exam paper has about 5 of those. Thats not the best picture doesnt show all the little details and shading etc but you get the rough idea. I was doing double award Biology today...I alarming found it a load is piss...Well maybe not piss but it was really pretty easy...Didn;t miss questions and didn't go "ARGH SHIT" for any questions... Did PE a week or soemthing ago...wasn't too bad, english lit was fairly pleasureable as well... Shitting it about Maths...ICT won't be troubling...Maths I've always been worried about since i was about 10....They always get to me... I would guess that the answer is something to do with the fact that because our galaxy is spinning, some stars are moving towards us, and some away from us. Or at least, some stars are moving away from us faster than others. Therefore some stars will be more red-shifted than others. Some might be blue-shifted if we are spinning fast enough, but I don't know if that ever happens. Or on a long enough timespan, you could observe one particular star, and see minute changes the amount of red-shift that star exhibits. I think i got one part to do with the sewage and the rocks right where it asked why it was set out for anearobic respiration, because there were gaps in the rocks to allow oxygen for the reaction to occur. Probably got it wrong like always though :- I suppose this combined with the next science test and my coursework i should get a C. Personally i hate science as my teacher strugglers to speak english (the greek twat) the other one is a fat women that dresses like a dirty slut shes fat and ugly (Y) . And the other one is a 27 year old retard who talks about who got off with who at the weekend. Anyway most these test's i've been doing recently are more about common sense i found this especial in p.e and r.e (had to take it catholic school). And the amount of pressure piled onto to me about gcse's is just to try and make you pull your finger out as teachers say. And infact these tests are not too hard its just phycological. :( Mind you saying this i have my maths tomorrow :D and i'm crap at it. Has any one got any advice for me as i'm laying a brick. I just put that it had air inbetween the rocks so aerobic respiration could occur, and then I put that It had a little spinner distributer thing at the top, so the Algae could have space to respire, rather than all building ontop of each other, and having to compete for o2 and Light :D Whats in the next science test anyone? and is tomorrows maths calculator or non? My school is fukin cack (Y) ← My next one is Chemistry on 16/06/05. And my paper is Non-Calculator tomorrow. Well that's what all my mates have told me. Best be true! So I do three 2 1/2 hour papers, and get a seperate grade for each. Kinda wish I'd have done more in my coursework, but ah well, didn't do too badly. The biology exam didn't go too badly, we really didn't actually get tought a lot of knowledge in our biology lessons, and so I/we've been left to revise (learn it for the first time) on our own. It was really weird, there was nothing on the heart, the eyes, biogas, etc, all of which I'd spent a little while revising. Luckily, the things I'd spent bugger all time revising on, but just saw a few quick words in my "revision guide" came up! Meh, guess I'm just lucky.
