All being well I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing some of these cars!

Whoa! UK to southern coast of Spain and then on to Monaco and the Alps, you're mad! On my trip back in April we wanted to do Northern Italy and Monaco but we thought it was too much as we were already doing France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Oh and the 2nd October is good for me Steve, by the way that date is also a RWYB day at Pod (I think), so for anyone interested there's that to do afterwards.

Terrible news, as much as i'd like to hear Morspeed's side of it I can't see how they can possibly justify the mistakes and delay. Drag their name through the mud! They may not care what people think of them but they will care when they run out of customers.

That's cool, we'll just have it without you
In all seriousness though it seems that MK is the preferred option, just, and I'm going to disregard those who voted "other" because they haven't bothered to suggest another meeting place or comment as to why they voted that way (i.e too far south, not south enough etc). The date on the other hand is more of an issue.
I've also realised that Japshow is on on the 5th Oct so I'd prefer to go to that if at all possible (need to cheer on the RE:WORX rx8 drag car), so I will take the suggestions on November and say how about the 2nd Nov at MK?
haha, thanks!
I think i'm going to be at Santa Pod with the Rallye Register that weekend, but there's nothing stopping me nipping out to meet you guys for lunch on the sunday.

I can't do that date, all booked up in October! November would be best for me

Yer nationwide change them back I did recently, i found best place to go was post office no comission.
The post office will tend to get you on the exchange rate to change it back. That's what i've found in the past. E.g. £220 worth of Euros, post office would only give £190 for them.

I think topgear should go back to actually testing cars etc during the proper series but still do the 1 hour specials, to the pole, accross the desert, winter olympics etc maybe 4 times a year?
I get the feeling he didnt think much of the GTR, whats all the bollocks about the gearbox as well? cant be true... typical clarkson misunderstanding?
I think it is, this GT-R has been designed from the outset to be hard to modify. The ECU apparently will pick up anything that's altered. Clearly Nissan have forgotton that on a heavily modified car, the standard ECU is one of the first things to be junked lol.
I like this weeks episode, they're still struggling for ideas, but less so than last weeks proved lol.

hate to say this, but top gear is becoming very boring of late....i ended up watching the tennis because it was more fun. (i actually like tennis) but top gear was SHITE
The tennis was brilliant. I was quite literally on the edge of my seat. Top gear was pretty poor I thought. The whole Alfa feature was so scripted it's untrue. Next they will be using canned laughter.

How about instead of telling the mere mortals, making me a senior so I can be in on the joke? Your secret would be safe with me!
Worth a shot

Awwww No-one ever lets me in on the joke. Year 7 all over again!

Ive also had a Furio for about 7 months and it's not broken down once.. Got all the little usual Saxo problems though (rattling everything)
My 106 was pretty good for not rattling. Although now with stiffer engine mounts and no interior everything rattles!
The whole french cars being rubbish is a bit tiresome, the comments seem to always come from people that have never owned one. I've owned the Rallye for just over a year now and it's been great. Admittedly the head gasket did go recently but it had just done 2500 miles across Europe the week before lol.

Happy birthday buddy.
-
yer they kool for 75bhp nipppy little cars
prefere the quicksilver to the furio, a tadge more expensive though
That's because 106's are better
-
It's pretty much a Citroen version of the 106 Quiksilver. I'd imagine it also lacks the bigger brakes and stiffer suspension of the VTR/VTS. If you ever plan to modify it don't bother. Apparently though some people can resist the modifying bug, if that's the case go for it. It should be pokey enough to be fun and a complete dawdle to fix should anything go wrong.

A little VW help here please guys:
My girlfriend has a Mk4 (1998 R reg) Golf (1.6 manual) and the bonnet is fubared. It went for it's MOT ages ago and she drove from Liverpool to Derby to get the MOT done at a garage who've always been good in the past (arranged through a mate)
After the MOT, she was driving down a dual carriage way and the bonnet flipped up - the MOT tester had obviously not felt the need to shut it.
I passed a message onto my mate who was supposed to mention it to the garage - didn't think any harm had been done as bonnet still opened/shut OK. (Turns out he never bothered to mention it, and wont now as he doesn't want to damage his 'reputation' with them.
A few months down the line and the bonnet jammed shut.
She took it to VW who forced it open and decided the catch was at fault. It was booked for a week later when they were going to replace the catch.
The bonnet then wouldn't shut beyond the first latch and wasn't sitting straight, but we just took it that VW knew what they were doing.
It went in for the catch which they've fitted, and then phoned her and told her the bonnet still wouldn't shut and it would need to go to the body shop to be looked at. (seems to me like the catch was never at fault)
A few days later and she's been back and left it with them, and now they reckon it needs a new bonnet and want to charge £700 - new bonnet, paint for bonnet and wings. To add to that, someone has been smoking in the car as it now smells of smoke!
Are VW normally this crap at diagnosing/fixing problems? I also think they're taking the piss with wanting to paint the wings at the same time.
Where can I find the paint code so I can look at getting a second hand bonnet that is already the right colour? Any suggestions as to where to get one?

(ta for reading the essay)
My local dealer wanted to charge my mum nearly £500 to make the car beep again when the lights were on and the door open. In order to do that they were going to fit an entire new dash. I think that was the point at which we started using a family friends garage....
I'm getting increasingly fed up of garages. Why do they all want to screw you over? On the flip side i've learnt a whole lot about fixing my car!

Don't ever use HSBC. I had an HSBC student account when I was at uni, appaling service. Although on the plus side 2 years on after graduating they still haven't redueced my interest free overdraft....
RBS have by far the best graudate account, i'd imagine their student accounts are pretty good too.
A point to bear in mind is that the bigger the overdraft you get the more you're going to have to payback once you graduate!

I would've said pump or stat, could be headgasket I suppose, or some big blockage
Take the stat out completely, see if that sorts it, if not go with the pump
yeah, that's what we're going to try. Would be easier if some German engineer hadn't routed a steel pipe right past one of the thermostat bolts making it near impossible to get at. Seriously! I'm leaning towards the stat as when blipping the throttle you can see the water level dropping, suggesting that the pump works. If it ends up being the dreaded HG then it may be 1.8t time

Any clues as to why a mk2 gti (1.8 8v) would boil all of it's coolant? The car runs fine but as soon as it reachs about 1/4-1/2 up the temp gauge it literally spews all of it's coolant out the header tank. We're thinking either thermostat or water pump but haven't had a chance to whip them out yet.

Phew I thought the date had changed back again.
The Rallye will probably be unchanged in November, i'll bring pictures of my engine build though
