    Downgrading Msn?

You're in luck: this site has every version ever released apparently - right from 1.0! Enjoy. Drew
  2. A word of warning if you're gonna use it:- it only works with the *original* recording. So it won't work at a live gig, or if you sing into the phone, or if you're in a club and the DJ has changed the speed or mixed it with something else. It is a seriously impressive piece of sound processing in my opinion though - it worked for me once with a ten second clip followed by 20 seconds of talking. If you go to Shazam.com and type in your mobile number you can also see all the tracks you've ever tagged
  3. I think people that dismiss all immigrants as tax-dodging benefit grabbing hospital bed stealing lazy slackers should take a look inside our own "great" country. You'll find there are plenty of British citizens with absolutely no desire to work milking the system for all it's worth - and I'd be willing to bet there are far more of these than immigrants or asylum seekers who are unemployed. I mean, let's face it - if you've come to all the trouble of getting here which really can't be easy, chances are you're not the type to just sit on your arse and let things happen. When are people on this forum going to realise that our tolerent society is our greatest asset as it allows skilled people from all over the world to legally enter the country and help to keep it a world leader in trade, research and technological development? On another point - a lot of you seem amazingly keen to keep our Christian heritage and I agree with you. But how many of you are actually Christian? If you're not - why should you care whether this country is predominantly Christian, Muslim, Hindu or any other religion you car to name. Or perhaps you'd prefer it if there was no religion at all and we could do away with Christmas, easter and all the other religious festivals you all seem to enjoy celebrating. Or perhaps we Christians should persecute YOU for refusing to conform to the national religion of your own country. If you think this is unfair, perhaps you should consider exactly what the difference is between saying you can't be an athiest in Britain, and that you can't be a muslim in Britain. Not a lot, in my opinion.
  4. You're not a very hardcore bunch are you?? "On longer runs of 3 miles..." If you're serious about improving your fitness, you need to get your heartrate up and sustain it for 40-60 minutes. I do a 60 minute run or swim 4 or 5 times a week (Y)

    My Knees Hurt

Ummm... right. I don't know who your GP is, but mine must be crap then! I was suffering from knee pain when riding and running and I went to visit my GP - all he suggested was rest and painkillers. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but pain is your body's way of telling you to stop doing something to avoid serious damage, so if you take pain killers surely you won't know when to stop and really f**k yourself over :D Since then, I've been to a private physio and she's told me it's all to do with my back - not my knee (apparently it's all linked....). I've had 4 sessions of treatment (at £30 a time (Y) ) but I'm now completely sorted :P She's also taught me loads of stretches to do, and how to run properly to avoid it happening again. So my advice is if you can afford it, go and see a chartered physio - even if it's just for one session. Other people might have more luck with their GP but mine was rubbish!
  6. Lazy link here - it's video rather than just audio, which is cool. Also, google "streambox VCR" and you can capture it to watch any time. The only problem is, it saves the files in realmedia format - if anyone knows how to convert this to avi could they let me know? :D"

    Engineering?

You do indeed get that here, but you get letters after your name for any degree or professional qualification. This is an actual title i.e. Dr Drew Berridge. So if I was a chartered engineer in france everyone would have to call me "Drew Berridge Ingénieur" - cool huh?

    Engineering?

I think it's important to make a distinction between an 'Engineer' and an 'engineer'. These days, the bloke that fixes your washing maching calls himself an 'engineer', but to be a proper 'Engineer' takes 3-4 years of university degree then possibly 3 years of studying/working at a company to become a 'Chartered Engineer'. Basically, at the top level you have to study for as long to become an engineer as a doctor. In france, you even get a title after your name in the same way as a doctor does here. Basically, all I'm saying is be careful when you're applying for jobs described as 'engineering' - you could end up fixing washing machine for the rest of your life :( I reckon your best bet is to take yourself to college and do maths, physics, dt or GNVQs (can you still do them??) in engineering-related subjects. From there, see how it goes and look into applying to do a BEng at uni - it'll be well worth the extra few years as a poor student!
  9. Everyone is making a big point about how easy it would be to just hop on a bus and leave town before the hurricane, but let's just stop and think about that for a minute. If the whole of the city of London all wanted to leave at the same time, do you really think they could all just go to their nearest train/bus station and get on the first one that arrived? It'd be absolute carnage, and what would probably happen in a 'titanic' sort of way is that the richer people would be able to buy their way on, leaving everyone else (quite literally) up shit creek without a paddle. I think if this had happened in a nice mid-west middle class town, stuff would have happened a whole lot quicker. Not sure that amounts to racism though.
  10. Goldwave, Goldwave and Goldwave. It's supposed to be shareware but there's no features cut out and no time limit (on my version anyway). It'll do just about anything you'll ever want to any type of audio file - fade in/out, cut, crop, change speed or pitch to your hearts content! While you're at it, you might as well get EAC - the best cd to mp3 ripping software i've ever found. It takes longer than most but it's worth it for the quality!
  11. Gotta have one from the queen of shit lyrics: I don't want to see a ghost, That's the sight that I fear most, I'd rather have a piece of toast, Watch the evening news Des'ree - Life (Y)
  12. Trying to outrun your fear You're running to lose, heart on your sleeve and your soul in your shoes take a left, a sharp left, And another left, meet me on the corner And we'll start, again. Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around the Block What is there to know? All this is what it is. Kings of Convenience - Know How Put your finger on the map Who cares where it lands? Doves - NY When you love someone but it goes to waste Could it be worse? Coldplay - Fix You We still believe in love, so f**k you Elbow - Grace Under Pressure Hmmm... different sort of music to pretty much all the other entries. Let's see what you make of them (Y) Drew
  13. Just reading the A level results thread and I was amazed at how many people are doing engineering-related stuff at uni or college. Out of my school mates, I only know a few that are doing engineering and to be honest, most people i know don't even know what engineering is! So is there a link? I suppose trials and engineering both involve problem solving, technical thinking and there's the obvious 'fixing stuff when it goes wrong'' element to any form of mountain biking. Can anyone else shed some light on this? Drew (just about to start 4th year of Civil Engineering degree)
  14. I paid a HSBC cheque into my HSBC account once and it cleared the same day. That's pretty fast ;) Usually more like 3-5 working days so Saturday, Sunday or Monday (Bank Holiday) won't count. You're looking at tomorrow at the earliest. I heard somewhere that they can get the money straight away, and they invest it (along with the rest of the day's cheques) on the stock market or similar and earn a tidy profit for the two days before they give it back to you (without the profit). Dunno if that's true though :P
