  1. How did you set your's up just out of interest?
  2. no, it's something I'll look at, at some point. I was hoping to be able to set it up reasonably well without facing them and then as my riding improved get them faced and see the difference.
  3. I'll try the elastic band trick tonight. I'll check the set up again and take it out for a good ride tomorrow. A lot of people rave about the mono trials when they're set up correctly. Any one got any tips for me setting it up? Cheers, Sutty.
  4. I've searched on this and can't seem to find what i'm looking for... Basically I've got a brand new Mono Trial front disc which I fitted tonight. I've gone through the set up and got it shimmed correctly (I think). How much difference can you notice once the pads have bedded in? At the moment the modulation feels really good but I don't like the amount of pad travel I.E the lever nearly touches the bars. I have no experience of disc brakes so wouldn't know if I have it set up correctly or not. Is there any way to adjust the distance the pads travel (as per the maguras tpa) or is it something I have to get used to? Any advice would be great thanks. Sutty
  5. I've got a 9 speed set up at the moment but have just bought a wheel with an 8 speed cassette. I want to change to 8 speed throughout cos i prefer it and want to have a trustworthy chain . Can I run an 8 speed system with a 9 speed mech and a 8 speed shifetr or do I need to change both? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
  6. Has anyone who has used the mono trial got any opinions to offer? I'm basically going to buy one today but just wanted to check they are as good as I've heard.
  7. I'm just getting back into the trials scene so as long as the BB that was recommended fits my new frame I'll be a happy chappy. Cheers for all the interest though.
  8. Thanks very much for that mate. Thanks for the quick reply.
  9. Just got hold of a 04 Control and need to know what Bottom Bracket length to get to suit Middleburn RS7 cranks. Need help quick cos I need to buy my bits soon. Cheers guys.

Another option you could try is what's called an "EEZIOUT". Basically you drill a small hole into the bolt (2 or 3 mm) and screw the eeziout in. It has a left handed spiral on it which draws it into the hole as you try to undo the bolt. The harder you try and undo it the tighter it gets in the hole meaning the bolt will eventually come out. Only problem is, these are not very common so you would need to find an engineering shop or something similar to help you out. I can get hold of these so if all else fails, PM me and i'll send you one to try.
  11. When I was learning to ride I literally used to spend every possible minute on my bike. I would go everywhere on it. I suppose that went somewhere towards feeling comfortable on the bike.
  12. I used to work for the Lampkins in Silsden (big motorbike trials family), couldn't afford a motorbike so took up cyclos instead. I took all my inspiration from the likes of Ot Pi, Ceasar Canas, The two Martins and the Tongue brothers. I remember sharing a Monty with my mate and spending a whole day (dawn till dusk so nearly 12 hours) learning to get up stuff using the bash plate. I eventually got my own monty then moved up to 26". I started riding 10 years ago now ( makes me sound old I know) but have had a break for the last 5. Just getting back into it and am amazed by how much the sport has progressed. It's awesome.
  13. Anyone know of any decent riding spots in North Scotland around Aberdeen/Inverness. I'm not opposed to travelling a bit. I'm currently riding around Lossie and Hopeman (near Elgin) but fancy chancing my arm further afield. any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks
  14. Ey up you big girl Good to see everyones riding trials again. I'm getting back into it steady away but limited on time mainly. Tell your brothers I said hi when you see them. PS tel phil I said he's got a fat a**e All the best mate, see you all next time I'm around silsden.
  15. As long as the threads that the helicoil screws into are ok you will be fine to get it re-done.
  16. Yeah I rode with Phil. It's good to see loads of Silsden boys on here too. I remember when there were only a few of us riding Silsden. Theres tons of people now. I've just spent the weekend riding and got the feel of my bike and finding it much easier to get the front end up. I'm relying on brute strength more than anything but thats how I always remember it being with the Rockhound. I've seen loads of people raving about the Echo Control on here so I'd like to get a second hand one to give it a shot. Anyone know of a short Echo Control up for sale at the right money let me know and I'll have a look at it. Cheers all
  17. Just going back to my original post. Does anyone know if John Hopkinson or Mark Smith from the Keighley/Skipton area still ride or whereabouts they are now?
  18. Nah, can't even stand up on ice I know one or two of the players from around here though.
  19. I'm at lossiemouth near Elgin so not so far from you. I'll deffo get in touch. It would be good to find out where's good to ride and who all the local riders are. Cheers
  20. The echo's are something that has definately jumped out at me. Gonna keep an eye out for anyone near me who has one and maybe give it a try. The other thing i have found is that the rockhound's front end is very reluctant to pop into the air. do you think that this is to do with bike length or BB rise?
  21. Go on then. Explain BB rise to me. Things were so simple back in the day. I agree that i'm gonna have to sample some bikes and see what suits.
  22. Old school I know. That's why i'm looking for a quality Frame/Fork upgrade.
  23. I was riding trials from the age of 15 to about 19 in the Silsden, Keighley, Skipton area (West yorkshire). I'm 24 now and in the RAF so living in Scotland. Just bought myself a trials bike to get back into it and i'm gobsmacked by how much has changed in the relatively few years i've been out of the loop. Looking on this site and tarty bike etc I don't recognise hardly any of the brand names. Back when I was riding in Silsden I knocked around with John Hopkinson (Big Head), Mark Smith, Micheal Mcandrew (Mullet). Mullet got in touch the other day but i've lost contact with John and Mark. If anyone knows what they're up to nowadays or how to contact them i'd appreciate it if you could let me know. I've got a handsome dog at the moment but looking to upgrade fairly rapidly. Whats a good frame/fork combo now. I find the dog too long and heavy so would like a short/light 26". Anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance. Sutty
