  1. Ross put together this video of our trip to Europe this year. Between Ross having bruised ribs, me tacoing my hard to replace 24" front wheel and then getting sick we didn't get as much done as we would have liked, but still had a great time.

Ross is on the Slate XL, Jeff on the yellow Yess and myself on the grey Radix.

  2. Why you say that (about the Equipe)? I thought I remember you liking it back in the day.

I liked the look of it, but from a riding perspective, it just never felt as good as the Radical or Expert frame. The geometry just didn't work for me. Dual disc didn't help either. When you were doing an inside wedge (eg, two wheels on top of a stump) it felt like you were rocking back and forth because of spoke flex and pad knock.

  3. Really???

    Nice video mate

Thanks for the positive comment. I wasn't riding well relative to the season before. I made a lot of progress in 2003, but felt like I took a step backwards the following season (which I mostly blame on that dual disc Equipe).

  4. I thought I had lost all my footage from 2004, but I stumbled across it today. I'm riding a Megamo Equipe, Expert, two Radicals as well as a Zoo Boa. I didn't ride very well that year, but I was happy with the lines I pulled out near the end of the video.

  5. Why is that? Has it only lasted you one year?

The frame is still fine, no cracks or anything, but I'm about to head over to Europe to do three world cups and world champs and I'm not risking any bike failure. Otherwise I'd just keep riding it.

You've got a really nice 'light' style (if that makes sense). Good to watch (Y)

    Thanks Mark!

  6. How does the Radix compare to the Echo?

The Radix is definitely a higher quality frame. Lighter, stiffer, great finish. The Echo is still good quality, but not quite up to the same level which is expected given the lower price point.

Both ride well. If 24" trials frames were placed on a continuum with one end being 20" and the other being 26", the Radix would probably fall closer to the 26 side than the Echo. The Radix has longer stays and longer reach. I can go bigger on the Radix, especially with rolling moves. I run 175mm cranks which feels perfect for me. On the Echo, 175s make the gear feel too easy and it's tough to maintain tension when you're doing pedaling moves.

For me, they're the only two 24s I'd really consider riding. That being said, I've just ordered another Radix frame which will mark the first time in 16 years that I'll be riding the same bike two seasons in a row which should tell you something...

  7. The only rear tires that I'll run on my Radix are the Maxxis Swampthing or High Roller. Stable, no flats, super grippy in wet and dry (with 42a compound). Bike Trials Direct just posted on their Facebook page that they have the High Roller 24s back in stock www.facebook.com/pages/Bike-Trials-Direct/. Normally I wouldn't share where I get these tires because they're rare, but I've already stocked up for the season :P

  8. Well impressed. Great comp style video, some tech lines. Best section at the end.

Are all these destinations specified trials spots. Would be great to get the specific addresses to possibly visit them myself :)

I don't have the actual address and they're often really hard to find. Facebook was really useful to connect with local riders who could give you some info. PM me if you want some contact info.

  9. Spent some time in Europe last summer and got to ride some really amazing trials parks. We lost the tripod in the first couple days and then spent most of our time riding, but we still captured some decent stuff. Ross is on a Rockman Slate XL and I'm on the Radix 24". Enjoy!

  10. I finished this a few weeks ago, but don't think I posted on here. Short video riding the GU 26. I wanted to get back on a stock to see how things compared to the 24.

Second video is from when I went down to Barcelona in March to get away from the never ending terrible death weather here in Calgary. I took a different camera and mini tripod so the video quality isn't great. Didn't really film much anyway because it's a pain and I spent money to ride, not film!

  11. love how you cut the bashring sound at the end :D

it's one of my favourite video still. These 2,5m gaps were unbelievable like 3,3m now

It wasn't on purpose! You can thank whatever editing software I used at the time for throwing in that little glitch. There's also a mouse pointer that appears in one of the shots lol.

  12. I came across a line that I hadn't ridden in years and after watching my old videos I realized it had actually been about ten years! Last year I reposted my old Echo ES2 video when it was ten years old so I figure it's about time to repost my Megamo video. Vimeo makes it much easier to watch nowadays compared to when you had to download it from Eengoedidee...

  13. It certainly would have made a more powerful statement if the world champion decided not to start in an event because it sections were dangerous and unrideable. That being said, when your job and life is about being the best trials rider in the world, there is a lot of pressure to suck it up and compete anyway because someone else might see it as an opportunity to win after you bow out. Gilles didn't quit until he was out of first place which definitely takes away from what he was doing, but he still gave up a lot and as he said in his own statement, he's basically out of the running for the World Cup title now.

To those saying that this is just trials riders bitching about poor conditions, when virtually all of the top riders in the world say that the event was poorly run then you should probably clue in that it was. If it's wet and muddy at a DH event then you can ride slower. Try making a massive kicker with 1/10 of the speed it was designed for. Try making a gap that requires 100% power output when your rear tire can't get any traction.
