  1. Good stuff! I hope he keeps his interest in trials, if he does he'll probably go far. Why didn't my parents show me trials existed when I was a kid?..
  2. I'm bringing no cat so I guess I'll be safe then? Poisson: Yeah, as this is more and more looking like a UK-trip why not... Might as well just fly over to the UK directly instead of going by train through Germany, Belgium and France. Though I'd like going to northern France.
  3. Awesome Ali! Blackstone... is that where Akrigg's riding in the latest vid? If not, where is that? Wanna go there as it looks great. This is more and more looking like a UK trip more than euro... Nothing wrong with that though, got the impression from Janson (RIP) that you Brits are really friendly. Wrote at espace trial asking the French about places to ride. Got a few places perfectly on the way to the UK. Now i need a couple of places in Belgium and Germany and I'am pretty much all set with places to ride. If this is happening, it should be great. Starting mid June, going till mid July. Places to visit as planned right now: Sweden: Stockholm (But of course, first stop, only like 40km though. Friends to ride with. ) Gothenburg. (Friends to visit.) Norway: Stavanger UK: Aberdeen Glasgow Bristol London Newcastle Edinburgh (May have friends to visit) Leeds? Manchester (plus the Quarry) (Oxford, might have some friends to visit) France: (Paris) Buthiers Dunkerque Lille Belgium? Germany? Denmark? If not saying friends to visit above it means I'm going there to make new friends. Need to practise my ass off during the winter though if I'm not gonna make a fool out of myself for the whole of Europe.
  4. Thanks, figured it would be close to Preston and it was... Though, how the... do you get there? Guess it's out of the question if nobody's feeling like taking me there from Preston or Manchester... Ah, well long time until then...
  5. Yeah, that trials park of Ali C... Looks wicked... Needs to go on the list, but where is it?! The park, not the list... Plymouth, yeah, it can go on the list. Better make the list too long than too short at the moment. Partz: Where to go in Wales then?
  6. Thanks, allright, Aberdeen and Glasgow then. Sounds good. A bit too far up north but it's doable. I'll keep in touch. Glasgow was on my little list of places I thought were good. Aberdeen... wasn't on the list but now it is. Scotland's worth it just for the whisky... Any more places? SLB went to Bristol I know (need to talk to him about this whole thing as he did this whole Euro trip thing this summer)... Seems good, worth a visit? London? (This could turn out to be great for my English, haven't really used it for a couple of years now... )
  7. So, tonight I came up with the brilliant idea of going for a trip around Europe next summer with my trials bike. Not going to be pedalling around, I'll be going by train and bring a camera so I can do a big video of it all... Figured Interrail cards are cheap (just over 300 gbp for one month, might be away longer but then that's still like 600 gbp for two months so no biggie) so that's covered. Though, I'm not sure where to go exactly. Figured you guys know the UK scene (obviously, you are the UK scene) and could give me some pointers? The plan is to come by boat from Norway to Newcastle, or just go across the channel from France... The latter is probably more convenient... Figured Newcastle has some good riding. But where to go from there? Or the alternative, if I land in Dover, where to go? Pretty much just asking for where I should go in the UK. Where's the best riding at? Where can I find the most friendly people to show me around and drink beer with? Maybe I should write something about myself so you don't think I'm some maniac. My name is MÃ¥rten, I'm from Sweden currently living in Uppsala where I study law at Uni. 21 years old. Other than studying I'm trying to offer Scandinavian trials riders quality parts through my small business Scandinavian Trials. No more info on that since I'm not advertising... Haven't been riding trials for very long, but I've done pretty much every other mtb discipline from full body lycra XC to full face, full on downhill and the odd bmx ride. Not the best rider, but I'm not the worst either. Not a TGS rider, but appreciate it anyway! If anyone has info on France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Austria etc. that would be most appreciated - going to find the equivalents of TF for those countries as well but figured I might as well ask here too. Oh yeah, I'll probably be starting the trip mid June so I guess I'll be in the UK sometime in July. If I'll be going. Need to see what's happening with the global economy first - if bad luck strikes I'll be poor by spring and then it's a no go...
  8. Don't think putting two CK sprockets next to eachother gives the right spacing. Either it's off by something like 0,7mm or it's of by the double (or something, not correct spacing between them anyway). Brain's not working right now... If that is enough to make it behave strange, dunno. Though, if you can make it run smoothly on one of the sprockets then this might be the reason. If everything else is ok, like stiff links in the chain, chain length, gears correctly adjusted etc....
  9. However, the smaller cog thing is only valid when using normal freewheels. If using a standard cassette hub on the rear and a threaded sprocket on the cranks you could actually run 15-12 (instead of 18-15). But then again, if chain snappage was an issue before... Some driver hubs, albeit not the best for trials perhaps, take 9 t sprockets... The reason is probably that MODs using BMX-spacing often used normal feewheels, and then as trials specific components started developing the industry kind of got stuck with that idea... (On the whole, the bike industry is as innovative as the dining table industry imho. but then again, as with dining tables - not much to be innovative about.) The weight dist. idea isn't valid in my opinion. My new rear hub is heavier than my old one, despite the old one being a cassette hub and the new one a fixed one. The overall weight of my drivetrain is heavier with the ffw combo than the old one. In theory it could be valid, TryAll H-hubs are lighter than cassette hubs so... Plus, if you were to take out your Texas Instruments calculator and be a bit scientific about it you could easily find that a ffw actually has a tougher job to do than the freewheel on a hub due to gear ratios. And when applying the same to effective poe per crank revolution, the freewheel on the hub wins. 60 poe on the rear is better than 60 on the cranks. If you don't believe me, then don't I know I'm right anyway. 1.2*60=72 whereas 60=60 (duh). 1,2 is the ratio of 18/15.
  10. Get new chain, new cassette. And just hope your chainrings aren't in too bad condition. Or if the chain already is a new one, just get a cassette. Anything works really. Alivio, Deore...
  11. Thanks Adam. My experience is from hubs only. And there I've always taken all the grease out and put light oil in... And after 3 years of bashing the only thing that's working as it should on my White hub (longest lasting) is the freewheel mechanism. Maybe these freewheels are a different story. I'll put my teeth in your hands and hope you're right about this. If not... well plane tickets to the UK aren't that expensive... And I've got people to see all around the country so it could be a nice trip. (No no, not a serious threat! I'm a nice guy!)
  12. Muel: Hehe, well... I thought he was a reliable source... I guess the only reliable source is my own common sense which told me to clean all the grease out and go with some light oil instead... Buying some new lockring pliers today so I can take it apart. (And a new ISIS crank extractor, the old one apparently was cross-threaded... wtf?! ) Always sucks taking new kit apart to make it work. Why can't manufacturers be arsed to get it right from the beginning?! (Don't get me started on Fox suspension...) Btw. the tensile lockring is left hand threaded, right?
  13. Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to take it apart then... Gonna ride it a couple of more days... Sometimes parts mend themselves. If problems persists, take it apart and do the normal procedure I do with freehubs (you know Hope, White, ShitmaNo etc.)... all grease out -> teflon oil in. Works like a charm every time. Why, oh why, was I adviced not to do that with this freewheel...
  14. Got a Tensile freewheel a week or so ago. Just ridden it 3 times and today it started skipping on me. What's up with that?! Normal behaviour? If so I'm going to hurt somebody...real bad, the guys at Tensile to be exact. Not skipping when doing anything trialsy, just when like rolling backwards and just resisting the movement slightly or just pedaling along. I've noticed King's behave the same way but they're a totally different construction so it just doesn't make any sense... Should I send it back to the shop basically? (Bought from everybody's favourite shop... Ta...bi....c...k) Why did I stray away from the path of normal hubs... Though, I did kill my White Industries hub... in 3 years, but still.
  15. Thanks guys. First ride impression: Holyshit, the only thing better than the look of it is how it rides. Mamma mia, this shit's goooood! Slammed the right crank and bashring on a ledge sidehoping though, deep cut in my soul. And about the tyres, I guess I'll just have to be smooth then...
  16. Might have been entered already. Yellows: Mezcal White: Moonshine Then the blue ones would be Curacao To me it sounds like a good party...
  17. Apparently the Rohloff tensioner didn't work with the hub, frame and crank combo. When on the outside of the hanger it's too far out. On the inside it fouls the spokes... (Super wide flanges.) Anyway, this is the temporary set up, using an old spoke as tensioner and some old tyres I found behind the couch. Getting more money on friday so I'll be ordering a 74 Kingz tensioner by then, and tonight I'm ordering some new tyres. HighRoller single ply 2,5" for the rear and Larsen TT 2,35 single ply for the front. Both 42a naturally. So: Now I just have to find some pedals... Seems like a customer doesn't want the black Trialtech VP-cage he ordered so I guess I could take those...
  18. Yeah, I've got this magic shelf you know... The frame is really something you either love or hate. Too bad most people seem to hate it. It isn't pretty but I like it because it looks different to pretty much anything else. Plus the bend serves a purpose, it allows for good standover but still there's no risk of hitting the maggie with your feet. Also it's comfortable to sit on when posing - which I do a lot.
  19. Thanks! Yeah I found all these Trialtech-parts in various places in my home. Figured I'd better do something with them. Linus: Thanks! Have you made sure you're up to nothing other than riding trials in Uppsala 9-10 of may? You need to be here, I'll send my mafioso-buddies to get you otherwise. So you know.
  20. Thought the same, but then I think I should have gone with white rim tapes instead of black. For now, after checking how much money I've got right now, I will have to keep running my old tyres if I want to eat...
  21. Rebuilding my little BT Raven 8.0 with some new bits and pieces I just got hold of... Frame: BT Raven 8.0 Vertical Fork: Echo Urban (for now...) Brakes: Magura HS33 with Coust pads rear (going for Heatsink Yellows with CNC-backing), Hope Mono Trials front. Cranks: Trialtech Bashguard: Trialtech Freewheel: Tensile BB: Trialtech SL Rims: Trialtech Sport, square holes in the front rim. Spokes: DT Competition rear, DT Revolution front. Hubs: WTB LaserDisc Lite front, Haunebu IV rear. Tyres: Maxxis HighRoller rear, Larsen TT front. Tubes: Maxxis Welterweight. Headset: Aheadset Intellaset Headset spacer: Trialtech carbon Singlespeed spacers: Trialtech carbon Tensioner: Was Rohloff, didn't work. Now 74 Kingz. Chain: KMC ..610.. dunno. Bars: Trialtech Riser Stem: Trialtech Sport Grips: Trialtech Foam Pedals: Not decided yet. Probably Trialtech Mags when I get the cash. What do you think?
  22. Definately! I'm happy with all input I can get! Gap contest could be something, as could sidehop comp. Easy for the audience to appreciate and could be pretty fun to do as a rider.
  23. I'm trying to organise a demo comp sort of thing with some other people involving street and park riding, big freestyle jumping, and more important (in my opinion) trials riding. So what we're thinking is setting up a street area with park and street stuff for bmx and mtb riders and then we already hav a big kicker for freestyle jumping. So that stuff's all sorted, at least in theory... More difficult is the trials thing. Space is kind of limited, and so is what we can bring into the middle of the city where we are planning to set everything up. So a straight out UCI/BIU comp is pretty much out of the question. An ordinary demo can always be arranged. However, I think we may be able to get more riders and the audience more involved if we make some sort of competition within the demo format (people win can win prizes which pushes them which takes the riding beyond the boring "safe" level which pleases the crowd). The question then is how the **** can that be done? Could something where you allow every rider to do whatever he can make out of the demo section for about 3 minutes and then when all the riders are done the audience get's to vote for which rider impressed them the most? Is that competition format ok from a riders perspective? Do you have any ideas? I'm kind of stuck... Thanks!
  24. Have had mine since late April/early May. Been working like a charm. No problems whatsoever! Light, stiff, love it! Nice of Dave to release a non cnc:d stem! Me like!
