  1. It's definatley not the bars or stem, because when i press down hard on the top tube near hedset it still creaks. I asked in my local bikeshop today, (bus ride away so no bike with me) and they suggested greasing the barings and to make sure its sat right ?
  2. As Tom said, and if your not 100% then go on the wiki, theres a how to take off and install a headset
  3. It's not the bars because, if i press down hard on frame near headset, or hold top of forks and do the same i hear the creaking, and sometimes if i lift front end and turn bars( thats only after ive pressed down though). It's my own fault lol i used to live near a top bikeshop and get everything done there, so i never realy learnt how to do it all myself hehe :$
  4. The headset is rock solid, oh and incase it helps (most likely will) it's a Hope headset on Echo control forks on an Adamant A1 frame. As i said before please dont laugh but where/what part of headset would i need to grease ?
  5. Hi guys, as topic reads, i'm having some creaking noises from my headset ( atleast im pretty sure it's headset), and i've tried any number of things to stop it ? I've taken stem off, cleaned everything up and put it all back together, but i still hear the noises ? It's sort of like a crank/bb creaking sound dry metal on dry metal ? (it's not the cranks, as it makes the noise when i put weight on the bars) Should i grease the steerer tube ? is it possible i have top cap on too tight? but the forks turn easily asif not too tight? I'm not a bike mechanic or anywhere near lol so forgive me if its obvious to any of you guys, i'm just not too sure what to try. Thankyou for any help
  6. I think its down to a worn bolt head, ( well the underneath bit of bolt head bit that meets inside of crank arm ) on inspection it looked a bit worn and uneven looks like i may end up buying mew bolts.
  7. Haha glad to be of humor for you, but honestly i wasnt sure if the black plastic bit had a washer on the end or something ? know why i was thinking maybe its that now ? If not oh well im dumb lol nvm thankyou for all your help
  8. If the black plastic bit does indeed stop it coming loose, then does it also help snug up the fit nice and tight so no movement ? Also could i fix with a washer or should i buy new crank bolts ?
  9. Only the crank bolt looks worn, the crank arm and bb are fine.
  10. Its isis bb Tom, and that sounds like the solution to me too, just aint got a washer lol
  11. Ok took crank arm off, but i cant find a washer to fit there all too small Anyway while crank was off i cleaned it all up, and on the bolt it looked like a squashed on washer, or atleast some broken bits of metal like it was a splattered washer if you know what i mean ? Anyway i took that crap off and cleaned everything up put arm back on, tightened bolt real tight couple of hammer whacks its now tighter than before but still has slight movement.
  12. The gap is about the width of a credit card but its enough to make the crank arm move about, duno what to do now may take crank arm off and see about a washer..
  13. Looking at the back of the crank arm its not up tight against the BB it moves slightly, im afraid to give it some welly to try tighten it more incase i break it, maybe i should try a washer ?
  14. Hey guys, ive just purchased The Stigs Adamant A1, alls good but the none driveside crank arm has movement asif the crank bolt isnt tight enough, but when i tighten it as much as i can it still moves. The movement is side to side ( to and away from frame ) mainly with slight up and down. Ive asked Thestig on msn and he said tighten it right up, i cant tighten it any more, also the black plastic bit on the crank bolt is missing that side, would that make any difference ?? Was wondering if i could take crank arm off and place a washer on ? or do i need new crank bolts ? The cranks are Echo cnc on isis bb not sure what make bb. Any help would be appreciated thankyou
