  1. Im probably one of the newest to be validated...mistakes are no doubt made, but in general posts are punctuated in a way to make it clear and easy to read I had to re-read yours a few times! (you should perhaps read over what youve typed before clicking the 'add reply' button) did you mean: Ive been here for a bit and replied to questions. I spell ok but I havnt got much further. I agree, I have noticed ALL (?!?!) the main members dont write very well or use text lettering. Maybe one day (after ive stopped making sweeping statements about the very people who are validating me)
  2. pretty impressive to hear that almost 15 - 20% of a bikes weight can be taken off without too much hassle theres no question saving of that much would make big differences, my initial post though was looking more towards how those differences compare to those gained through specific training or gym work as a basic analogy - lifting a weight in a gym if my maximum lift say is 100kg, then if im doing light reps...im not going to notice much of a difference between a set of 20kg or a set of 25kg in terms of fatigue. The difference in weight is only +/- 5%, and id only be working at about a quarter of what i can do if the next person though has a maximum lift of 50kg, the difference between the set of 20kg and 25kg will be quite signifigant....not only is it a 10% jump, the person is having to work at half of what they can do (twice as hard as me) i apologise for the crude analogy! and i dont mean to patronise.....only giving some food for thought to anyone who wants to jump higher/further etc....the effect on weight saving differs for everyone, i guess it comes down to how athletic you are already
  3. lack of experience from me here in the difference in how it feels...again its not something i put much thought into, but it makes sence....still, there is alot of emphasis in the 20gram difference in a stem or bars (im shallow, i go for the best looking reguardless with the idea the extra pleasure in looks will give me that extra little bit of energy!) so has anyone actually noticed a before and after difference then with physical training specific to trials related moves? and with that comes the healthy lifestyle, diet etc (mens health style questioning)
  4. fair enough, i never really looked at it from a competing view point! in which case, even the most minor of changes could be that slight difference i guess my mind set was in a joe bloggs regular, go out and have some fun sort of way....maybe jump big things and look cool infront of friends! if youre at a competition level though, is there a focus on 'training'? maybe practicing on the same (but heavier) bike to build up power etc?
  5. right, first things first...before i get shot down, i get how a lighter bike helps! more responsive, easier to throw around etc etc..the list goes on im also relatively new to trials riding, so if my thoughts are incorrect..id appreciate any constructive comments basically, ive read through loads of posts talking about saving weight....with holes drilled all over, certain items bought over others etc...the saving of a few grams here, and a few grams there going on a bike that weighs around 10kg though, only 1% of weight is taken off with every 100grams....as a previous pretty high level athlete and fitness instructor (only on the side during school) 1% difference of weight to lift/throw/do anything with is minimal! for the majority of people infact, a relatively focused physical training program can raise a persons strength/explosive power etc buy atleast 20%...in my eyes, cheaper/quicker/easier and surely having a much more noticeable effect?! also, this reduces body weight by a few thousand grams (only put in that way to show perspective) making the total rider/bike weight less...meaning higher/longer leaps and with new years coming up and resolutions to be healthier/go to the gym a little more, the topic is almost relevant!!
  6. Im not sure if its been looked at from this perspective... I get the idea behind 'knowing your ability' as i think i read somewhere, and perhaps the rush or kick from not wearing a helmet, some extra element of risk etc and (probably the biggest reason) reasons to do with image unfortunately, ive seen things from the other side of the fence where a cyclist of any sort has had some sort of accident...and the thing that stands out more isnt the pain/suffering of the 'casualty', its (in some cases, especially when its really bad) the pain and suffering of the close friends and family dealing whatever the outcome was you may have little little reguard for your own life..but maybe have a thought for those around you who do (im aware about the helmet-less profile pic, no excuses...things change, its old and definately not somthing id do now)
  7. great site there, havnt come across it before...you have my vote;)
  8. ive just searched for them and yeh, they look awesome...the shape seems great fold holding your finger in place thanks for the input though guys, if i do manage to polish up a new hs33 lever to a nice 'machined' look..the pics will be up!
  9. it is a very cool lever, im not sure if they are still available...BUT theres a similar lever by rb designs i found http://www.thetrialsinshop.com/images/brak...b_carbon_1f.jpg looks very cool too and ive heard its pretty good quality too...still, a tad on the pricey side!
  10. Well, as a newbie to the trials world and the forums...im not sure how well bike vanity goes down here?! still...i like to play around and make mine that little bit different which brings me to the hs33 brake lever (blade in particular)... perhaps when echo make their oh so stylish sl reliable, id consider it...but in the mean time im looking to try and do somthing different! im open to anyones reviews of after market levers also...ive just seen the topic below with pics of a very polished dropout...as far as im aware, the lever is cold forged with some sort of black finish, anyone know if its possible to remove the colour and polish them up to a similar finish?!
  11. http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...category_id=148 By the sounds of the description...its a pretty decent piece of kit?! The BMX version wont be hugely different in terms of build quality and i cant imagine it being any weaker, if anything a bit stronger... though..surely if you are considering one of the most expensive hubs on the market, you are aware of its quality? check out the other hubs/wheel builds available on that site and see if any suit your needs
  12. Yes you can, The Chris King BMX hub, as with all bmx hubs (I think) are narrower than standard mountain bike hubs, making them suitable for mod bikes (116mm axel spacing) or stock bikes that specifically come with a 116mm axel spacing. Below is the official spec for Chris King hubs, it shows some of the other differences between the BMX and other hubs http://chrisking.com/specs/hubs_all As for your front freewheel, again..you need to measure the axel spacing
  13. I vaguely remember trials in MBUK aswell, ages ago when i used to read it with Mr Ashton and a nice cannondale!? looked great...then i remember the early 20" onza's came out...couldnt afford one though! Around that time I fell out with my heavy bmx and left the two wheeled scene for years... That is, until this summer, when i decided to get a bike to cycle to work and back (a stinky deluxe seemed to suit the job perfectly!). learned how to wheelie one day, and it went from there...started to bounce around on the back wheel, pedal hops etc (im new so terminology is probably wrong), but after going bigger..the stinky didnt like it, and it was just an opening for me to treat myself to an early christmas present; an inspired fourplay that I 'NEEDED' to stop my stinky getting damaged.... The rest is history! (about a week ago)...a new world of street/trials to look forward to now...
  14. looks awesome, always good to ride a bike that looks good, despite how shallow it sounds...ive got a viz fork on my front and only enough room for about 15mm of spacers, any more and the stem clamp wouldnt be holding onto as much steerer as id like it too..still, its going to lift up like a dream compared to how it did got the bike, its almost got the looks, now just need the skills!...check out my videos on youtube...(in a good few years time)
  15. ok cool...on a similar subject, im sure ive seen your videos on youtube, nice riding! the colour scheme seems to be pretty similar too...anyway, which ea 50 stem do you go with and how many spacers? seems to be pretty short and steeper than a 10 degree... i got the inspired initially with a 5mm spacer and 120x20, changed it to 90x10 but at the same time i was pretty tempted by the hope 70x25 shorter stem thinking it would make bunny hops easier still...but i couldnt find anyone mention that stem or one similar to that geometry, so figured i should go with the majority and not risk the expense!
  16. thanks for the tips...the stem hasnt actually come yet, so will have it on for a few days to see how well it goes (not doubt try posting a pics for a few ideas!) but its good to know that its possible can be sorted with little hassle cheers!
  17. This is my first post so go easy guys and girls! Ive got an inspired fourplay, and originally had a white viz 120x20 stem on it. after riding around a while and feeling it wasnt really suiting my style, i tried looking round for a nice white 90x10 but had no luck, so went with a blue hope to math the other parts of the frame I would like to though, if possible have the stem in white?! I dont know much (anything really) about resprays/powder coating, and if its different for CNC compared to just a frame any ideas of how i could go about this, and how much it may cost would be appreciated
  18. Hi, im chris, 24yr old firefighter from edinburgh...anyone living/working around the city centre may have spotted me cycling to/from work every day, or playing around festival square on a kona stinky deluxe?! its a long shot... been doing xc and then downhill/freeride for a while now, with the odd play on a bmx...started trying 'trials like' moves on the stinky in august this year and was hooked! the bike didnt like it though, so to justify it to myself..i NEEDED a trials bike to save the stinky! the fourplay was an obvious choice (seeing danny around bristo square a while ago, and his videos now was a factor of course) definately looked like the 24" was suitable for the sorts of riding id want to do.. which brings me to now, a new fourplay in the garage with a spec suited to me.....pictures will be up soon for any comments/slating! happy riding everyone!
