well...to a point i agree, yes its helpful to get your balance dialed before you progress. but still, you need to keep in mind that riding is for fun..how much time do you want to spend mastering walking before trying to jog/run? maybe it was because i was doing it on a different bike, but it only took a few hours for me. at the time, id got a trackstand dialed with my strong foot forward and bars turned one way. other variations i could hold, but it didnt feel half as comfortable. if balanace was lost, it was easy enough to hop to save it and get back to a trackstand position. if youre at this stage or close, you should be able to progress to a rear wheel hop with little effort. if there are any nerves with the move, whilsting backhopping....perhaps let the front wheel fall a little further than usual before trying a pedal hop (in theory, if you were doing back hops, you would only have time to do one quick one before letting the front wheel hit the ground). trying hops like this will let you land on the back wheel followed by the front wheel, famialising yourself with the pedal action. you can then try this letting the front wheel fall less before the pedal hop until you are landing comfortably on the rear wheel.

where abouts?! i would be tomorrow during the day, but the snow is coming down pretty heavily now...hopefully there will still be a few places

just been out now, asked not so politely to leave each underground carpark until i found a not so icey area! even then, it was just practising bunny hops.....unless theres a half decent thaw, nowhere is worth the effort in my opinion

Front Suspension Bounceback, Please Help!
chris4stars replied to squallbass's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
i used a kona stinky to play around and learn to pedal hop etc! honestly...stick with it, and when you get your actual trials bike the skills youve learnt do cross over (despite the huge change in geometry) -
i could see it...but the photo wasnt clear enough to make any comment about the paint finish im afraid!
-
i stay near fountain park...quite often find me along the canal or festival square...you?!
-
cool...well, when the ice melts and edinburgh is a bit nicer to ride i'll get in touch, could hit innerleithen or glentress when they are a bit drier too if you still have your dh bike with you

since its christmas, i'll try to take this seriously and be of some sort of help this time.... how is the weight increase possible? im not sure..you have the bike, and it would be alot easier to do a little homework first tarty bikes seems to have the weight of almost all of thier products on thier website...if they dont have one you need, im sure they would have something similar, and this could give you a good idea of the weights certain components should be alot of people have kitchen scales that go up to about 5kg..hopefully you or a friend will have a set? with the scales and that info, you can work out what your wheels should weigh..and check each one with relative accuracy, then check other parts and probably work most of this conundrum out yourself
-
Its shocking, when i weighed myself at home on some £20 scales from argos.....i was 74kg, then i went to the gym and used some accurate scales and it told me i was 78kg! dont worry...after getting all angry and flustered, i complained to the gym..came straight back home, found an internet forum and asked everyone what happened *edit - phew...i just weight myself properly on scales i knew were exactly accurate, and it turns out..i was around 78kg - i then realised, that i shouldnt get so worked up on a number some scales give me if im happy with things anyway

24, been riding bikes of sorts for 10 years....trials though for a whole week in a garage to get away from snow!
-
im almost tempted to get my fourplay to the nearest paint/powder/anodizing place (whatever it is!)...to be fair, all 3 rockman frames on tarty bikes look great, whatever the colour

In an ideal world, a light bike combined with an athletic ability is of course ideal... the topic was just to provoke a few thoughts! its never been questioned about how much better a lighter bike would be...its more a case of looking at comparative benefits between specific exercise, and focus on lightening a bike though ive never tried, it sounds like its easy enough to loose the first 60-70% of the potential weight loss...say 1000g to 1500g in total at a guess, getting the final 500g or so is slightly more difficult, and requires drilling holes (maybe not somthing some people are comfortable with - i dont know) or purchasing more expensive parts (almost exponentially more expensive) which may not be an option to some it was more a case of comparing the two, and thinking about what would give the best results to your riding for the least effort as for the bling and fun n doing it..well yeh, cant argue that! and the idea of riding a heavier bike was just an idea to do from time to time, to train your muscles in the most effective way for when you ride your lighter bike (or same bike with the lighter parts)

Firstly Quoting myself here - "mistakes are no doubt made" QED. Secondly, if you can read my post and spot my errors; "(you should perhaps read over what you've typed before clicking the 'add reply' button)" it could be helpful to do it to your own too.
