  1. I've matured a lot since I last rode properly so I'll definitely be keeping my bike maintained to the best degree One reason i'm rebuilding it really, it means I know it's all gonna be oiled and tensioned properly Managed to get the broken brakes bolts out in the end, with a lot of swearing and swinging on mole grips still unsure of the magura stripping though, what can I clean them with that won't attack the seals? Will WD40 be okay?
  2. Anything DIY usually looks pretty shabby, it's just good because it's cheaper I used a section of drainpipe, lined with pip lagging and held on with cable ties once it wasn't pretty but it did the job
  3. Metal, the heavier and more technical the better stuff like Meshuggah, Between the buried and me, and Cynic also bits of prog, listening to a lot of porcupine tree at the minute, plus dream theater and wu tang clan for the cliché hip hop soundtrack
  4. I just mean the section I filed is roughly the range of tension my bike was at before I stripped it down they worked before but tended to slip as I tightened the axle nuts, so I never really got the chain tension I wanted So hopefully it won't do that anymore
  5. I got bored of filing away at the buggers so I've only done about a quarter of the cam, the bit which usually sits against the grub screw, so hopefully they'll be effective cheers for the advice guys!
  6. Ok, posting from the garage where we have a few problems. First off one slave cylinder returns slower than the other, I'm taking brakes apart completely so I can squirt things inside if needs be second a couple of the bolts holding my rear brake and booster have seized, won't budge at all afaik, they're stainless, the cap heads are almost round from swinging on them any advice would be great cheers
  7. I'm gonna be uber pissed if I do need them and me in my impatience forgot to order them >.< I have a magura service kit lying around somewhere, might be some in there... Parts came today while I was at work, so gotta wait an hour before I can pick them up from the post office, time will tell...
  8. I've got the braided hose kit which looked like all the fittings were on? I hope so anyway >.<
  9. Haha man! So much faith in me! I'm a man, I need power tools and sparks but yeah, I sorta guessed a flat file wouldn't be a good idea I'll have a little half round or a rat tail somewhere
  10. Man, I need my eyes checking! Haha sweet, I'll give it a go and if I bugger up, I spend £7 on some proper ones! Cheers man
  11. got some smooth onza snail cams on my monty and I'm interested in these toothed ones i'm seeing a lot of recently. But I really cannot afford the price. (And i'm FAR too impatient to wait for them) Any ideas for making my own? I'm thinking trapping it in a vice and using an angle grinder with a cut off disc to make the grooves should work, right? gonna line em up together in the vice so both cams will be identical also on the subject of snail cams, inside or outside of your dropouts?
  12. haha! strangely enough I once went on a mission to find a bottle opener I could keep on my bike for them summer evening rides may I ask where you got it?
  13. Cheers man, I'll just be thorough with what I'm doing I've ordered some magura braided hoses, my standard plastic ones needed replacing anyway because they're looking a little tatty and the front one is far too long. so draining maguras prior to removing hoses, any tips? obviously remove pads so they don't get contaminated
  14. Muscleman cranks are square taper yes? If you've got a crank extracting tool then obviously use that, if you dont, use a copper hide or rubber mallet Maybe somebody else has a better tip than my heavy handed brute force techniques
  15. Aye, I was thinking of doing a full strip and rebuild, and make note of any parts I need. Just looking for them typical problems areas that are easy to miss and you discover when you hit the ground and something pops straight into your nuts
  16. So since my bike has been in the garage for a while and not seen any use, It's probably a good idea to give her a looking over before I go throwing myself off shit with it What to do? Aside from making sure all moving parts (headset, bottom bracket, hubs, chain etc) are free of crud and greased up nicely Got some brake line and brake fluid on the way for the hs33's plus a new front tube and stuff, so brakes are getting the full workover anyway what else ahould I look out for?
  17. ahh sweet! Cheers dude didn't think it'd happen so quick
  18. I meant I'm currently still riding a monty 221, can't help but feel too tall for it though >.< yeah man mine need bleeding too, ordering some bits and bobs from tartybikes on payday so I can get back to it! Let's see if I can still do half the stuff I used to ^^
  19. It's been at least a year since I rode and really took much time to see what was up in the world of trials, so I'm WAY behind with the times I'm looking at the "new breed" of riders and it seems so different to when I was first getting into it, but dammit Danny Macaskill is really pushing the bar when it comes to street trials So here I am, pushing to get back into riding again. Looking at a few upgrade parts and repairs for my bike and again I feel behind the times. Like I'm seeing other people now making hydraulic rim brakes instead of Magura and only Magura doing it. What's the general concensus with them, Are magura still leading the way, or have the mighty echo come along and shown them how it should be done? I'm on a rather outdated looking Monty 221pr Mod bike, Thinking of possibly upgrading to either a longer frame, or maybe 24" wheels 24" was a fairly new thing in trials last I remember, how well did it progress? I have a friend who rides a 24" marino frame and he loves it Basically just looking for updates over the past year or so, Because i'm seriously clueless! Help! :D
  20. I do! sadly Used to have one friend I rode with all the time but he went off and got a job while I stayed in college so yup, I'm alone
  21. I'm crap at introductions! I'm Liam, 20 from Macclesfield, Cheshire Been riding trials for a few years but the bike's not seen any action for about a year, I just don't get time these days with work and such. SO 2010 I'm gonna make an effort to get back out there and fall on me arse!
