Yes no problem though. I spotted the trialtech pads in TNN backings on the complete pictures of his bike but when I watched the videos the brake sound wasn't the same. I thought I should just point that out! The trialtech pads are just some other pads made by Thierry Klinkenberg like the Try-All Croco pads. They are awesome pads but the thing is this compound is just too hard so it eats the grind too fast resulting into a brake that wears out very slowly but which needs regrinding often to have a great sound and great bite. They are also less tolerant to brake movement so they wear out at a weird angle near the ends faster than other pads. I am sure they work well though but I'll just stick with my Heatsink Coustsink pads with chamferred edges as they don't need a grind that often and as they work just great!
I had the Heatsinks on for a few weeks, basically so we could get an idea of what they are like for any customers asking. That video is fairly old now, so didn't realise!
The Trialtech pads however have been ridden for around 5 months atleast, so I have a pretty good idea of what they are like. You talk about the material being "too hard", but how do you know what this material is like? Have you ridden with it? Secondly your notes about needing to re-grind often are nonsense from what I've found. If you grind properly (and by that I do not mean harshly) and set brakes up well, they will not wear at funny angles at all. If your pads wear at an angle, it is usually because they are either set up wrong, have to much material on them meaning they rock in the cylinder or the backings are crap.
Anyhow, the Trialtech pads a very good indeed. They have bags of hold, good bite and seem more resiliant to crappy conditions than other pads.

Pretty cool that!
The GoPro HD cams are amazing really. Superb quality.
Adam and I did some experimenting with one on my bike tonight. Attached the camera in some random positions! Rode a pile of rocks for a bit.
Be interesting to see what the footage is like. Should find out tomorrow

Assuming theyre using the 2.4 RQ (not the smaller stiffer 2.2 ust) then they can probably allow for less grip when riding, much like better riders dont have to rely on their brakes so much
I think it just comes down to what you want from the tyre. If you want light weight-ness and spring then Rubber Queen (any size) is the one to go for.
As I mentioned earlier the Der Kaiser and Rain Kings are completely different and offer way more grip, stability and puncture protection.
-
You could get a Der Kaiser, which should fit a lot better, plus you also be able to grip stuff, not get punctures and not spring off in some random direction when pre-loading.

It's only a bit of fun!
Upside down salmon wheelie is my favourite

Really good video, up untill the crash of course!
Its good to see Chris going back to his roots and doin more Trialsy stuff. He's great to watch and its a throw back to when I started Trials.
Chris' "Hill in Spain" video is cool too. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
-
no, he had a go and turned out he is too fat for it so he has gone back to his der kaiser
I think you'll find you won the puncture "competition"! Something like 10-5 to you. Fat b*****d
Decided I wanted grip, stability and less hassle back!

You should have one in the brake already. You can just re-use it if your careful when removing it.

Thanks for the comments. I've updated the blog - mini vid and a couple of pics from last night.
Proper video, with Stan, Mark, etc. to follow on Friday.
Awesome! Looking forward to it

Nice one Craig.
Good to see you out riding again
Secrets is still looking good! Will have to pop up and ride there again soon.
-
Nice pics and riding mate!

Amazing video, filming, riding and editing.
Really enjoyed watching that and you often don't say that about 25min comp videos.
Monstrous sections and super tech aswell! Loved it.
Will watch again.

Always loved Ben's editing and this one didn't disappoint.
Sweet lines as usual Mark, I think your riding has come on quite a bit recently.
-
Winner.
I'll be there, will try and drag fat boy Cap along.

Pictures of when Adam and I did the mod.
Not got any complete bike pics after the mod really. Will have to sort some

Good enough to get a front puncture and put a hole in your tyre from tapping like a basher anyway
:$

You should of gone with you lot rather than being a loner. Unless it's because he actually lacks faith in the frame and didn't want to be with anyone if it didn't hold together lol
Had other stuff on yesterday so only had a few hours to ride and shipley is over an hour away for me. Anyway these local rocks are sweet, more than a decent test for it. Time will tell whether the carbon is good enough, but so far so good.
43g off the weight and by the sound of things, not too much of a risk. Can't see any reason why it would add stress to any other area of the frame.
Bit of info for you Stan. My mate Borys who lives over in Oz snapped the downtube on his black sky fairly recently and has had the downtube carbon wrapped. He's been riding it for quite a while now with zero problems. Looks like a good shout.
I'd imagine you could drop best part of 100g off the weight of the frame doing both tubes.
Thumbs up from me
Chris
Cheers Chris Handy to know that actually. Aye we estimated around 100g for both tubes too. At the moment the frame weighs 1474g including the tensioner bolts, if I remember right. So the weight is in Koxx Sky territory which I'm happy with.
Does the frame not flex a lot without the booster?
That carbon looks sweet, wish i had the knowhow to do something like that.
Frame is deceptively stiff! The tubing is reasonably thick all round and the seatstays "wrap" the tyre quite tightly so there is little room for flex. For reference its a stiff as my Sky which had a built in booster.

First ride went really really well, apart from the puncture I got right at the end, bloody sharp rocks!
-
Totally agree with you Stan, we need to try these ideas in order to see if they work.
Thinking about it, it wont be long till we see Trials frames being produced in full carbon. I Guess through trial and error you will see if it works or not but I have full confidence you guys have thought this through as looking at Adams hub in previous topics you seem to be confident working with carbon which is great to see
I probably have the oldest carbon trials part avaliable, Its the carbon mini trials seat off Ian Coopers old titanium Raleigh, was buzzin when I got it lol
Awesome stuff
Also for anyone whos interested, the bike is now built is gettin ridden tomorrow. Had a quick play in the car park and it felt fine.
Can't wait!

So if the frame snaps, who gives a fu**? Is that what you're saying? Wish I could have such an attitude towards such expensive bike parts.
Not really, Adam and I have modified loads of stuff in the past. Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't, but as I said you'll never find out unless you try. Its also just interesting to see if it works.
If the tube or glue doesn't hold up then it'd pretty straight forward to remove and try again.
-
Regarding strength, I guess we'll soon find out, but you never know if things like this work unless you try it. If it doesn't work then fair enough. Besides, plenty of frames have carbon top tubes.
looks really sweet.how is the aztec disc and magura 2011?
Awesome Easily the best disc I've ever had.

slightly concerned
You not like?

Although I don't have one in my Echo due to having a spanish style BB, I ran one in my Koxx Sky with no problems at all. I also run one on my Inspired 24".
They are excellent BB's. Bearings are super tough.
