  1. My current steeds.

Couldn’t resist a mega deal on a new rise in the sale, swapped over the full spec from my old one.

Just finished building an airdrop fade once again. Regretted selling my last one and those that know me are aware quite how much I like a yellow frame. Think I’ve painted 4 inspired’s the same yellow.

No he went for an even clearer 2nd run but added suicide no-hander over the canyon gap which he just cleared in his 1st run. But still dropping 3 places overall from 1st to 4th was mind blogging as well as the rider with the cleaner front flip canyon gap finished 8th after 2 runs.

Sorry Darren but you guys got it wrong.

Bren only did 1 run, after seeing 95 there was no point taking that level of risk I imagine. Judging is beyond a joke

  3. After a week of riding serious elevation and distance in the lakes, I realised the levo SL wasn’t cutting it for me.. 35nm vs my dad’s 90nm was a real struggle. I decided I wanted to stick with a lightweight eeb but with more power, the Orbea Rise has been the perfect bike for my needs. I’ve just tipped 1100 miles on this enduro eeb beast, absolutely love it for all types of riding.

I’ve decked it out with some silly spec, because who doesn’t love throwing money away:

i9 hydras on Roval carbon rims

    Hope tech 4 V4s

    5dev cranks

    Hope f22s

    Hope gravity stem

    Oneup bars

    EXT Storia V3

    2023 36 grip2

    Fox transfer

    XTR cassette, XT shifting

    Conti Kryptotal / Argotal

    Get well soon!

Loose also one tooth and broke another one in a crash at the pumptrack <_<

But still love to ride it!

The bike looks sweet. The bottom bracket seems to be quite high too me (for this kind of bikes), which could be great for some trial moves.

Cheers dude and sorry to hear you’ve had the same! I’m very lucky to have got away with the minor injuries I did.

BB is lower since switching to the 100mm fork, rides much better. I’ll get a decent outdoor photo once I’m back in action.

A couple of changes to the eeb of late also:

    - black tape over all frame logos

    - tech 4 V4s (insane power)

    - gravity stem

    - one up 35mm risers

    - stripped the cascade link raw

    - new motor

    - vittoria Mazza’s f + r, enduro casing

Quite glad to see the back of the purple.

  5. That Forbidden is stunning, Druid?

I think this is my new favourite bike, made quite a few adjustments since last post:

    - built up an i9 hydra for the rear (thanks Tarts for speedy delivery!)

    - pike DJ forks

    - new longer rear hose

    - removed front brake

    - Burgtec 30t sprocket

    - shadow supreme chain

    - 14t rear

    - Burgtec saddle

    - stripped the stem and spacers silver

    - ODI longnecks

    - cut down seatpost

Had an absolutely huge slam at the pump track on Saturday.. 2 front teeth smashed through my face, broken ribs and many other minor injurys. Helmet saved me big time. Anyways, plenty of time on my hands this week so figured I’d do a post.

  6. Decided to try something a bit different. MTB and trials is my passion, so I’m keen to see if this will float somewhere in the middle.

Pretty much all hope + Burgtec spec. Planning to strip the stem and spacers silver and probably fit a pivotal off my old hex.

Some great parks and pump tracks around me, and some great trails nearby

Hi, I'm new here. I've been using chain lubricant, and it's a headache trying to get the mud out of the chain since it binds to the lube. Do any of you recommend using WD40 on the chain while testing it out?

What do you think, will using the WD40 protect it sufficiently, or would I be better off using something else? Thanks

Tom are you potentially referring to the chain on a moto trial?

  8. Managed to find a carbon SL in large (prev one was an alu medium and it was a touch small) and I couldn’t resist. Swapped a load of parts over, it’s running 160mm front and rear with a cascade link. Also came with a range extender so can comfortably get 40 miles across the downs when I fancy it. Such a great bit of kit.

If anyone is looking my medium SL will be for sale soon with a mega spec (Fox 38, Ohlins TTX, Hope E4s, Carbon wheels etc).

It's the MTB world Dave, they won't be working that out any time soon ;) Just on to the next marketing hype and hope for the best. Do agree though, if I ever decided to get an eeb then lightweight would be the way that I'd go, but I don't anticipate that happening for a long time.

It has been interesting seeing the different classes of e-bike splinter some of the local riding groups here. Initially it was just 'regular' vs. 'eebs' making some rides awkward in terms of pacing, or whether people would turn up at all. I recently joined one of the weekly local rides run by another group and everyone but me was on an e-bike (apart from one other dude on a regular bike, but he only turned up because they'd promised they'd tow him up the hills). However, there was about a 50:50 split of full fat to lightweight, and there was a lot of range anxiety on the go! All the full fat guys were wanting to bomb everything in Turbo while the SL guys were trying to eek it out on Eco or Trail. It meant that at the top of the climbs that full fat guys were raring to go as they'd been waiting, while the SL guys would turn up a bit more out of breath and want to stop for a bit but the full fat guys would head off almost immediately. The ride route ended up changing part way through as the relative battery levels meant some people were concerned about getting home.

Having chatted to some of the SL guys they were a bit disappointed that their super expensive SL bikes were essentially 'worse' than the cheap full fat bikes some of the other guys were riding, and that in a way they may as well just be on a regular bike again. I think they may have forgotten what riding up those hills on a regular bike was really like, but it did seem like their situation kind wasn't really that different from how it used to be when it would just be a 50:50 regular to e-bike split on our rides.

A mate borrowed my full fat (70nm, 504wh) for a ride and we did some side by side tests. There’s absolutely no denying that the power is substantially noticeable over the SL (35nm, 320wh). However after a 3hr ride we both concluded that we preferred the lighter bike, there’s still plenty to get you up the hill and you get a bit more of a workout as a result. Not to mention is feels superb when you point it down!

At the end of the ride we were surprised to see that both batteries had around 25% left. But I guess in part that is due to us riding at the same pace, the lighter bike in trail / turbo and the full fat in eco / trail. Also worth noting that the newer full fats have 640wh+ as a minimum, some closer to 1000 so this isn’t the fairest comparison by today’s standards.

For me, e bikes are entirely about the motivation to ride. It’s something I lack without one and rarely use my normal bike. It’s also a completely different ball game if you have friends on them also. That said, my main riding buddy is on a hardtail and as fit as he is it’s still not as enjoyable dropping to his pace.

  10. I’ve been putting the miles in on the SL and I’m blown away by the fun that this thing offers. I’ve owned 3 ‘full fat’ eebs (in fact I’ve just listed my beautiful Canyon Spectral On for sale if anyone is looking) but the lightweight offerings really are the future in my opinion. This offers just 35nm to get up the trails quickly and hit more runs.

I’m very fortunate to have the South Downs Way on my doorstep so have been getting some post work loops in. But in reality I’m more of a DH rider so I’ve adjusted the spec to suit, took it to BPW a few weeks back and it ate it up.

    Few bits I’ve changed:

    - Fox 38s @ 160mm (10mm up)

    - Flip chip in low (0.5 degree slacker)

    - Reynolds carbon 30mm rims

    - Spank hex rear hub

    - DHF / DHR

    - Hope E4s

    - 650lbs spring

    - 180mm dropper

    - Fabric saddle

    - Hope f20s

With a whole new era of lightweight e bikes on the horizon, anyone considering them I’d encourage to give it a go!

@Mark W It wouldn't happen all at once, there would just be a high turn around of staff. People leave jobs for better positions all the time. And if a company has a real problem with retaining staff, they will look into why and address those issues. Hiring and training staff is expensive after all.

I have and I expect most of us have left a job over pay before. Striking just makes people seem so entitled to me.

Have you looked into the reasons why they’re striking? It’s not simply over pay.

There’s hardly an abundance of work in the country at the moment, not to mention the crippling conditions so many are facing due to this sickening government. I highly doubt many of those striking have the funds aside to miss a month’s payslip between roles.

  12. Whilst I’m in here, may as well show my latest bike build. It’s a weird fixed gear tracklocross thingy. It’s an absolute hoot around town though.

Last year's bargain build now updated with second hand 2021 Fox 34 factory Grip2 forks at 140mm, over the previous RS Pike that never seemed to work well (sticky bushings on every RS fork I've ever had, got enough).

    - Heavily discounted Tallboy 4 CC 2021 frameset with Fox factory dps shock.
    - Raceface ARC30 rims because the shop sent me these instead of the cheaper AR that I paid for...
    - Dartmoor Reel V2 hubs, 102poe, seems to work fine so far. Pretty much everything else was out of stock at that time.
    - Then some other boring parts from the previous build such as my 5 year old Magura Trail Sports still kicking like new.
    - Renthal bars for life, because of my moto background and most importantly their mild backsweep works better for a trials rider.

Some would think that my drivetrain choice is pretty interesting on this level of bike. Yes it's the cheapest little Sram cassette there, with 10 speed shimano Zee groupset that has seen over 5 years of riding and still going strong.
People raving about Sram Eagles and other "must have" bling, but honestly I don't value drivetrain luxury that much (I don't race though). I rather use my calves to get up the hills anyway (seat down of course) and 10spd has proven to be enough for everything so far. It could be faster and more reliable to shift, but other than that I don't really see a reason to update. Lighter gear means more pedal strikes and difficult timing on techy stuff, and loss of momentum.

Weight roughly 13,5kg (I'm not a weight weenie though).

Really liking that, always fancied either a tallboy or an SB130. If the cassette works for you then fair play, I’m a fat granny ring athlete.

I can’t comment on the compound, but my Tech 4 E4s came with 2 sets of pads for each brake, a race and standard.

I have a Tech 3 E4 front and Tech 3 Trial rear, both set up and bled as perfectly as I can, the E4 is noticeably firmer. I'd love some Tech 4 levers but just can't justify the cost. Good to know they're another step up though.

My last set up was Tech 3 E4s and to be honest I loved them, until I had a play on a mate's Tech 3 Trial Zones and couldn't believe the bite.

Surely Hope are going to have to release the levers + calipers as separate items soon as people will need spares. I listed the all new E4 calipers on eBay yesterday and already lots of interest surprisingly (I assume from tech 4 owners who want spares, rather than someone fitting them to a tech 3 lever).

Anyway enough waffle from me in this thread. Very glad I took the plunge, would encourage others to do so!

  16. Right so!

Been out for a ride, these are absolutely superb. Bit of tinkering with getting the pads square and all of the squish has gone. Was doing a side by side comparison with my mates hex of almost identical spec, he’s running the same calipers, pads + rotors but with tech 3 levers.. both of us couldn’t believe the power of the tech 4 set up especially given they’re not even properly bedded in.

    Very very happy
