  1. It is looking good isn't it! I stopped in at his on my way home from Fleet a couple of weeks ago, with the fresh paint on it looks like a new car again. Any ideas what sort of times he was running? (My random stab in the dark's low to mid 13s) An unusual question from me, because I normally just pressure-washer my car and call it a day, but it's looking pretty tired, and I've got some wax I want to try, so what would you body guys say I should do before applying a hard wax? Nothing expencive/too labour intensive, the paints shit so it's not worth it, I just want it to be more white again. It's generally looking a bit creamy and stained in places from working on it/covering lots of miles around farm-land. Would a good going over with something like SRP do the trick or would I want something more aggressive? Or even clay I suppose? Like I say, budget's low in terms of time and money. The wax I want to try will be a nice tip if it works as well as I'm hoping/expecting it will, so I'll show you guys the results, it's just a shame my cars not a colour that'll come up all lovely and shiny.
  2. Really not helping my want for a 924/944 Paul! That's looking damn good. This belongs to a guy I know (he's the reason I know anything about them!) pretty similar looking to yours, just the spoiler and stripes and a slight drop, all of which he's done:
  3. Pretty sure I've heard of that issue with 924/944s before, I think it's to do with the alignment of the boot-lid rather than the latch being faulty its self. Also yeah, what George said about the air-freshener. Nice purchase on the car by the way! PS, if the front speakers are 6x4's and you find some decent ones for sensible money, let us know please, I need some new speakers in the Scirocco, and all 4 are 6x4s.
  4. I take it you've tried a Toyota dealership? (Not trying to be cocky, it's just amazing how many people don't try the main dealer.) I really want to like RX-8's, but I just can't, the proportions are spoiled so badly by the whole awkward 4 door thing. Shame, as I like most Mazdas, and I love RX-7's, but for me the 8's always going to be 'so close yet so far'. The doors would work on something like a new Scirocco/Megane Coupe sort of shaped car, in fact they'd be awesome, but on a true coupe the need for rear headroom wrecks the roofline.
  5. I was meaning change them rather than literally 'play with' them, sorry, wasn't very clear about that! A little googling's shown up that the lower arm's the same as a mk1 golf, and I know I've seen someone on retro-rides fit mk1 golf struts to one before without any real mods. I hear the rear end's basically the same as a super-beetle too. Not sure if that helps with anything though, unless you need a new lower-arm or bushes. I guess you may actually be able to fit mk1 golf hubs (with half a CV joint in there to hold the bearings in) and then just use golf brakes, it'd mean miss-matched PCD's front to rear though, unless you ran adapters at one end. 4x100's nice for wheel choice too.
  6. To be honest I don't have a clue about the brakes. I only knew about the engine swap because I was researching for using a 924 box in a silly project (which is on hold/cancelled until I've moved and found a new job.) I know a chap who dailies a 924 who I asked about it all, I'll see if he knows anything brake wise. I know the front suspension shares a lot with mk1 golfs, but being 4x108 none of the golf stuff's going to bolt up, plus the hub will be different to a golf because of being RWD, so I wouldn't know if the mounts are similar or not. Brembo's online catalog for replacement discs shows all the dimensions you'd need to see if stuff can fit. If you can fit a bigger disc to go on, and you don't mind making caliper brackets then you should be able to sort something out. I'd wait and see what it's like first though, I don't think the brakes on them are too bad to start with, and if it's just a more modern feel you want then you may be better playing with the servo and master cylinder than the calipers. With 7" lights, as long as they're in decent condition most tend to be fine with relayed wiring and decent bulbs. The type that creates the beam pattern with the glass tend to have a very good beam pattern, much better than a lot of clear lensed 90's stuff IMO anyway.
  7. Yeah, you're probably right. Well I'm busy the last 2 weekends in august, as well as the weekend of the 3/4th free pretty much all of September though I think, as well as most of July (busy 13/14th.)
  8. I'm still up for this. What did people think of my idea about Retro Rides Gathering?
  9. Just needs a pretty simple adapter plate and a slightly butchered Golf bell-housing. There's a build thread with all the info here A lot of US spec lights don't have a kick-up in the beam pattern, they're just a straight cut-off, so aren't actually left or right hand drive specific. Also, congratulations on the first! and on buying an awesome Porsche. I do love a good brown interior, I'm still regularly tempted by 924/944s, just not sure about the practicality.
  10. Whether the spring's mounted on a threaded turny thing doesn't make the blindest bit of difference to performance or comfort. Spring and damper rate and quality are what matter.
  11. Definitely don't use copper grease, it's not a lubricant, just an anti-seize compound, it shouldn't really be used on moving parts at all. But yeah, as Adam says, there's normally more than enough in the sachet. I need to get some more bush-grease sometime, so I'd be interested to know if it is the same as a more common/cheap type. It's all well and good having the sachets, but it doesn't allow for any dismantling/servicing later down the line.
  12. Must go there sometime, it's only half an hour away from me and I've never been, pretty retarded really. I've been to a fair few events in the grounds, but never shelled out the cash to go inside, but it does look good.
  13. I hope you're on your way there now, cash in hand.
  14. That was me. I'm sorted now though thanks. Only wheel I need now's a single E30 BMW BBS. Don't suppose anyone's got one kicking about?
  15. May have to jump in on the action there too, give me a reason to finally bother wiring in my OBD port! haha. Got a few plans for the Scirocco over the next few weeks. Mostly related to getting it handling better and sitting a bit lower by making some things. Not going to explain until it's done though, as going by my previous plans, this may never happen

  17. Haha, I lost track of how many edits I did, I couldn't make up my mind as to how much of a twat I should be calling you out on things, I settled for being fairly nice in the end. Meh to SOS, I was at the beach, with beer and friends, much rather be there than in a car-park with cars and strangers. (hence the want for an estate at the moment, I'm trying to drag my life back to having more than cars in it.) Would have been cool if I hadn't been busy though.
  18. Pretty sure they're fiesta based aren't they? Ginetta also made cars based around Ford doors, in fact theirs even used the original door skins. (G28/30/31/32)
  19. Sleepers are a whole lot of fun. Just got home from a weekend away camping, and I've got sooo much want for an estate right now. I'm really quite tempted to sell the Scirocco for one but I know I'd regret it later down the line. hm...
  20. Yeah I'll take a peak sometime. Can't say mines anywhere near that bad though, it actually feels fairly good other than the badly needing a quicker ratio rack, still I'm sure renewing a few of the 'solid' joints would probably help things out. (All the bushes are new quite hard poly ones since the engine swap.) I'm sure Jolfa will know much more than me about it, but yeah, I'm pretty sure you can fit all the ignition system from a k-jet KR onto the ABF. The ABF ECU wouldn't be any use for running bike carbs as it takes the load signal from a MAF, which you won't want.
  21. Ah, God knows what mileage mine's on, but my best guess for a while has been 'probably quite a bit more than 170k'. (Odometer seized up ages ago.) My column gaiter's been spit for years too, but nothing looked terrible when I last had the engine out. Still might pull it out sometime for a look anyway, I want to swap the mounting bushes over to some stiffer ones I've got.
  22. Can't remember off the top of my head, nearly 4 I think. What sort of mileage is your 'rocco on for the rack to be that shagged? Might have to check mine out sometime, a little sharper steering would be awesome, I've been tempted by a quick rack, but I'm still in 2 minds with bigger plans before I go any further, a new standard rack's only £40 (link, handy shop if you didn't know about them)

  24. Fair play I'll ask him. It'd be me rebuilding them, just because I fancy giving it a go, but I'll see if he wants to take a chance.
  25. Sounds like a pretty cool idea. Depends what you want from it really. They're good little engines, but they're not overly light or powerful, the best thing in their favor's epic reliability, and being easy to turbo/supercharge, but I'm guessing you wont be doing 100k in it, and charging it in a pop would mean basically replacing every moving part, and it'd probably be easier to just fit a factory turbo'd engine anyway. That said, it would make a really cool little car.
